Published: 04/21/03Judy M. OlcottMineville, N.Y. — Judy M. Olcott, 59, of Minevillle, N.Y., died Saturday, April 19, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, N.Y. She was born in Mineville, N.Y., on July 27, 1943, the daughter of Walter and Anna (Collins) Lashway. Judy attended Mineville High School. She enjoyed cooking and delivering tasty dishes to relatives and friends. She took pride in her home and shared it with special friends through the years. Judy was sensitive to the needs of disadvantaged individuals and included them in her life. Her generosity extended to her animals who received great love and care. Judy is survived by her daughter, Christine Olcott and her companion Doug Armstrong of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; her sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and James Agan of Colchester, Vt.; her brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Diane Lashway of Moriah, N.Y.; several nephews and one niece; and her special companion, Bill Gates. She was predeceased by her parents. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2003, at 10 a.m. at the Church of All Saints, Mineville, N.Y. Memorial donations may be made to the Westport Animal Shelter. Lucile Ethel SecorTiconderoga — Lucile Ethel Secor, 80, of Tiroga Beach Lane, passed away Thursday, April 17, 2003, at Fletcher Allen Health Care of Burlington, Vt. Born in Fairview, N.J., on Jan. 2, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Charles Henry and Charlotte (Mowel) Schinkel. Mrs. Secor was employed as a secretary for many years at Alcoa of Edgewater, N.J. After moving to Pennsylvania, she was employed as a secretary for the Hampton Township School System of Hampton, Pa. She vacationed on Lake George for many years before becoming a permanent resident in 1989. She moved here from Allison Park, Pa. Mrs. Secor was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ticonderoga and a member of the church choir. She was also a member of the Carillon Garden Club, the Church Women United, the Champlain Valley Choral and the Ticonderoga Historical Society. Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Arthur J. Secor; two daughters, Holly C. Estep of Rome, Ohio, and Lisa S. Langford of Allison Park, Pa.; one sister, Carolyn Schinkel of Park Ridge, N.J.; her stepmother, Elsie Schinkel of Park Ridge, N.J.; and five grandchildren. A memorial service will take place on Monday at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Ticonderoga. The Rev. Paul L. Dufford Jr., pastor, will officiate. A reception will follow at the church hall. Interment will take place at a later date at the family plot of the Valley View Cemetery of Ticonderoga. Palmyra (Penny) Anne Ransom WoodPlattsburgh — Palmyra (Penny) Anne Ransom Wood of 28 Seneca Drive, Plattsburgh, N.Y., died Friday morning, April 18, 2003, at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital, Plattsburgh, N.Y. She was born at the family home at Upper Franklin Falls Road, Bloomingdale, N.Y., on Oct. 2, 1930, the daughter of Stephen Francis and Frances Loretta (Plumley) Ransom. Educated at Porter School (a one room elementary school near her childhood home) and graduating from Saranac Lake High School in 1949, she joined the Women's Army Corps (WACS) July 6, 1950, and received an honorable discharge June 12, 1953. She was stationed in Kansas and Heidelberg, Germany. She married John Edward Wood Feb. 16, 1954, at St. Paul's Church in Bloomingdale, N.Y.; her husband died Nov. 12, 1978. She worked at SUNY Plattsburgh in the Housing Department for over 30 years. She was an active member of the Home Bureau and CSEA and was the first female veteran of the Beekmantown Veterans of Foreign Wars. Penny was a great cook and baker and won numerous cooking contests sponsored by the Plattsburgh Press-Republican. She enjoyed arts and crafts and spending time with her grandson Jeffery. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Frances and Dave Beauharnois of Mountain View, Calif., her daughter Linda O'Neil of Lisbon, Conn., her daughter Heather Van Valkenburgh of Plattsburgh, N.Y., and her daughter and son-in-law, Tracey and Jim Gallagher of Adams, Mass.; as well as by five grandchildren, Jason, Danielle, Andrea, Jeffery and Breeanne; and a great-granddaughter, Magenta. She is also survived by her sisters, Ida Ransom of West Thompson, Conn., and Susan Ransom Zadroga of Winchendon, Mass.; her sisters-in-law, Margaret Theresa Ransom of Saranac Lake, N.Y., and Betty Wood Columbe of Bloomingdale, N.Y.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Her sister, Erika Ransom Duso of Elizabethtown, N.Y., and her brother, Stephen Francis Ransom of Saranac Lake, N.Y., predeceased her. Calling hours will be held Monday, April 21 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home, 40 Church St., Saranac Lake, N.Y. A Bible vigil service will take place Monday afternoon at 3:45 p.m. and a veteran’s service will take place Monday evening at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Bloomingdale on Tuesday at 11:15 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Paul's Cemetery in Bloomingdale, N.Y. Persons wishing to remember her may make donations to a charity of their choice in care of the funeral home. Abram LaValley FosherBurlington, Vt. — Abram LaValley Fosher, 88, died Thursday, April 17, 2003, at Fletcher Allen Health Care, Burlington, Vt. He was born in Coopersville, N.Y., on Nov. 6, 1914, the son of Ephriam and Ella (LaValley) Fosher. During his life, he worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps, Bell Aircraft in Buffalo, N.Y., Delaware and Hudson Railway and retired from Ayerst Labs in Rouses Point, N.Y., in 1973. He is survived by two sisters and one brother, Ina and Alonzo LaValley of Elmira, N.Y., Norma Coyle of Orange Park, Fla., and Chudleigh and Claire Fosher of Coopersville, N.Y.; one daughter and three sons, Cecelia and Richard Armstrong of Waltham, Vt., Richard and Therese Fosher of King's Bay, N.Y., Robert and Maria Fosher of Brockport, N.Y., and John and Linda Fosher of Rouses Point, N.Y. Also surviving him are seven grandchildren; nine great - grandchildren; and many loving family members. His beloved wife, Cecile (Anctil) Fosher; sister Effie Miliken; and two brothers, Irving and Amos Fosher, all preceded before him. Calling hours will be Monday, April 21, 2003, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home in Rouses Point, N.Y. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 22, 2003, at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Parish in Rouses Point, N.Y. HoffertKeeseville — Charles I. Hoffert, 78, of Cinnamon Ridge, died Saturday, April 19, 2003, at the home of his daughter, Shelly Hoffert, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Royersford, Pa., on July 20, 1924, the son of William and Lillian (Bibbihouse) Hoffert. He served in the U.S. Army from November 1942 to November 1945 and was a member of the Keeseville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1505. Mr. Hoffert enjoyed pool, cards, watching westerns, built and raced soapbox cars, raced at Airborne Raceway and watching NASCAR racing. He is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Donna Hoffert and her husband Ray of Seattle, Wash., Shelley Hoffert and her companion Danny Davis of Keeseville and Kim and Charles Provost of Keeseville; one brother, Oscar Hoffert of Pennsylvania; two granddaughters and three grandsons; two great-granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Leona Robare, on Nov. 30, 1981; one brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Doris Hoffert of Pennsylvania; and one sister, Anna Collins. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, April 22, 2003, 6 to 8 p.m. from the Hamilton Funeral Home in Keeseville. Burial will be at a later date in the Port Douglas Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to the Keeseville Rescue Squad. James McNultyRedford — James McNulty, 42, of Redford, died Friday, April 18, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in Brattleboro, Vt., on June 10, 1960, the son of James and Eleanor (Terrell) McNulty. He was employed by Commute Air in Plattsburgh. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1978 to 1982 and was a member of the Saranac American Legion. He was an avid New England Patriot’s fan. He is survived by his wife, Suzanne M. (Pettit) McNulty; his mother, Eleanor Gabree of Sebring, Fla.; a daughter, Caitlin Meghan McNulty; two sons, Ryan James McNulty and Shamus Michael McNulty; three sisters, Eileen Perez of Carver, Mass., Christine McNulty of Plymouth, Mass., and Dawn Marie Booth of Plymouth, Mass. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the O'Neill-Redden-Drown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday from the Church of the Assumption in Redford. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a trust fund for his children. Karl Joseph LaPointe1910 - 2003 Ticonderoga — Karl Joseph LaPointe, 92, died peacefully at his home on Good Friday, April 18, 2003. He resided at 23 Carillon Road, Ticonderoga, N.Y. Karl was the son of George Alexander and Rose (Fitzgerald) LaPointe, born on Dec. 20, 1910, in Ticonderoga above the old Rex Restaurant on what was then West Exchange Street. As a boy, Karl would clean and polish spittoons in that restaurant (named for the family dog) which his parents owned and operated. He graduated from Ticonderoga High School in 1930, having participated in football, wrestling and managing the basketball team. In 1932, Carl married Elizabeth Ferris and they lived in Boston for a few years. Karl's favorite baseball team was the Boston Red Sox and he was proud to clean the team's uniforms while working at the Pilgrim Laundry. He would enjoy relaying stories about L.J. Peretti Tobacconists and about Jacob Wirth's Restaurant, whose manager called him on his 92nd birthday. Karl also enjoyed going to old Montreal, returning with colorful French pastries and stories to match. He worked for The Lead Mill helping with the war cause (World War II). What he enjoyed most was running the restaurant at Fort Ticonderoga for many years, catering the Scottish gatherings and participating in historical reenactments. He worked for a time on construction for the IP Mill and he later went into the plumbing and heating business with his son George. Before retiring, he worked at the Moses-Ludington Hospital as a security guard, where he was well known for his unique sense of humor. Karl had a great fondness for animals. Squirrels would come to him and eat from the palm of his hand. Besides his parents and beloved wife, Elizabeth Ferris LaPointe, Karl was predeceased by his sons George Alexander LaPointe and Cyrus Yale LaPointe; one grandson who was named for him, Karl Joseph LaPointe; one great-grandson, Desmond Yale Ahigian; brothers Desmond and Donald and sister Dorcas. Survivors include his daughter Karlene LaPointe Clark and son-in-law Datus Clark; daughters-in-law Virginia Burleigh LaPointe and Marjorie Peters LaPointe; 14 grandchildren, George Alexander LaPointe, Elizabeth Ferris LaPointe, Anne LaPointe Ahigian, Meg Clark Congelosi, Henry Gordon Burleigh LaPointe, M. Virginia LaPointe, John Putnam Clark, Thomas Yale LaPointe, Mary LaPointe Engin, C. Jane LaPointe Wilson, Karlene LaPointe Gonyea, Tisdale LaPointe Trudeau, Sarah Dorcas LaPointe and James Joseph LaPointe. He is also survived by 48 great-grandchildren; and two great - great - grandchildren; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. Relatives and friends may call on Monday, April 21st from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home, 11 Algonkin St., Ticonderoga. A Mass of Requiem will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 22nd at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Ticonderoga. The Rev. William G. Muench, pastor, will officiate. The Rite of Committal will follow at the family plot of the Valley View Cemetery of Ticonderoga. Memorial donations may be made to St. Mary's School, Amherst Avenue, Ticonderoga, NY 12883. PLATTSBURGH — Committal services will be held Monday, April 21, 2003, at 9 a.m. in St. Peter’s Cemetery for Joseph W. Douglas Jr., Charles E. Black, Dorothy Stanworth, Irene Provost and Gladys Langlois, who died over the winter. Arrangements were with the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. Kiyo K. Morenus, 75, of Coville Bay Apartments in Bombay, N.Y., died April 19, 2003, at the Alice Hyde Hospital in Malone. She was born in Tokyo, Japan, on Sept. 20, 1927, the daughter of the late Kunikch and Tatu (Kozakura) Kobre. There are no calling hours. A graveside service and burial will be in St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Saranac Lake at a later date. Arrangements are with the Cappiello-McKenzie and Cosgrove Funeral Home in Ft. Covington. |
