Published: 04/12/03Taylor E. LaPlantePLATTSBURGH — Taylor E. LaPlante, 84, of 52 Couch St., died Thursday, April 10, 2003, at his home. He was born in Chazy on Sept. 3, 1918, the son of Edmund and Mabel (Taylor) LaPlante. Taylor married Marion Boodrow on July 19, 1942, in Chazy. Marion died in 1986. He worked for the Pall Blade Company for many years until it closed in 1953. He then joined the Plattsburgh Police Force where he served for 21 years until retiring as a sergeant in 1975. Mr. LaPlante was a member of St. Peter's Church. He enjoyed woodworking, carpentry, automotive mechanics, fishing and was an avid Mets fan. Survivors include one son, Rodney LaPlante and his wife Pamela of Peru; one daughter, Sheila Deso of Plattsburgh; five grandchildren, Chad Deso, Kiel LaPIante and Tina, Shari and Lisa Arena; one brother, Lawrence LaPlante of Cadyville; five sisters, Teresa Flynn of Plattsburgh, Myrtle Grace of Cromwell, Conn., Gladys Gray of Mattydale, N.Y., Natalie Rugar of Stanton, Va., and Mrs. Raymond (Leita Ann) LaClaire of Plattsburgh; one sister-in-law, Audrey LaPlante of Plattsburgh; and several nieces and nephews. One brother, Leland La- Plante, died earlier. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Peter's Church in PIattsburgh. Burial will be at a later date in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Chazy. Memorials may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation in his memory. Dawne E. LaneWest Chazy — Mrs. Dawne E. Lane, 56, of the Slosson Road, West Chazy, passed away Thursday, April 10, 2003, at her home with her family at her side. She was born in Denver, Colo., on Dec. 20, 1946, the daughter of Elmer and Mary Kathleen (Turner) Mastin. Dawne had an extensive career with Civil Service, working for various government agencies and was the commander's secretary for the 380th Supply Squadron at the former Plattsburgh Air Force Base. She remained at the base through its closure and then became PARC's receptionist, a position she held until her death. Dawne was an avid reader, enjoyed being out of doors and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, Elmer and Mary Kathleen Mastin. She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Ben Lane of West Chazy; a daughter, Dina and her husband Richard O'Brien of Clifton Park, N.Y.; her grandchildren, Kayleen and Kerstyn O'Brien of Clifton Park; a brother, Anthony Mastin and a sister, Sharon Mastin, both of Denver, Colo.; and her mother-in-law, Elvira Lindegren of Salol, Minn. Calling hours will be Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh. A funeral service will be held Sunday at 8:30 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be Monday in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, N.Y. Friends wishing may make donations to Hospice of the North Country. Everett H. ZemkenMorrisonville — Mr. Everett H. Zemken, 83, of the Sand Road, Morrisonville, passed away Sunday, April 6, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center. He was born in the Town of Root, N.Y., on July 16, 1919, the son of Alfred H. and Anna Bell (Palmateer) Zemken. He attended schools in Johnstown, N.Y., and worked in Borman’s Coat Factory in Johnstown until he entered the military in February 1941. He married Dorothy Mae Burdwin from Canajoharie, N.Y., on Aug. 31, 1941, in Chesterfield, S.C. A veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army in January 1942 with the 51st Signal Corps, he went to Panama and Trinidad for 18 months, returning to the States for an operation. In September 1944 with the 390th Base Signal Co., he went to New Guinea and later to the Philippines and was there for the liberation. He was the second flight to the United States on the point system and arrived home Aug. 31, 1945. He worked for Lee Dye Co. in Johnstown for a short time and went to Schine Chain Theatres in Gloversville, N.Y., for 13 years. He moved to Morrisonville in July 1957 with his wife and family, working in sales. He went to work for the Press-Republican in 1965 and retired in 1984. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Everett was a member of the Pine Tree Rifle Club in Johnstown, N.Y., and for years shot in National Rifle Competition. He was also a member of a pistol club and shot in matches. Everett is survived by his wife Dorothy of Morrisonville; a son, William Zemken and his wife Lou of Kannapolis, N.C.; his daughters, Cheri Lynn Collins of Saranac, N.Y., Helene Ann Hawley and her husband David of Troy, N.Y.; a brother, Albert H. Zemken and his wife Helen of Rockwood, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness, Rand Hill Road, Morrisonville. Ina BourkeRouses Point — Ina Bourke, 90, of Rouses Point, passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2003, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh following a brief illness. She was born on April 3, 1913, in Chazy, N.Y., to the late Fred and Maude (Manor) West. She was a retired accountant with Ayerst Laboratories in Rouses Point. She was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Rouses Point, the Catholic Daughters and the Northern Lights Square Dancing Club. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Nick and Mim Bourke of Athens, Ga.; a granddaughter, Kristin of Colorado; a grandson, Brian of Connecticut; and a sister, Vivian Wilder of Broadalbin, N.Y. She was predeceased by her husband Thomas; a son, William; six sisters, Eva King, Rena O'Connor, Hilda Lafontain, Grace Spancake, Bertha West and Jean West; and two brothers, Leeward West and Bernard West. Calling hours will be held on Monday, April 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Clark Funeral Home in Rouses Point. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 15, at 11 a.m. from St. Patrick's Church in Rouses Point. Burial will be held at a later date in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ina's memory may be made to Meals on Wheels, or to Hospice of the North Country. Wayne E. BuskoKeeseville — Wayne E. Busko, 54, of Merrilee Lane, Keeseville, died Thursday, April 10, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in Deer Park, Long Island, N.Y., the son of William and Evelyn (Scheulen) Busko. Wayne served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. He owned and operated Interstate Tanneries in Plattsburgh for more than 20 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, four wheeling and spending time at his home on Auger Lake with his family and friends. Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Jennifer Davalos of Connecticut and Melissa and Jonathan Kaharl of Texas; one grandson, Byron Davalos III; two granddaughters, Caitlyn Kaharl and Kyris Smith; and one brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. William Busko of Winchester, Va. Calling hours will be held Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Keeseville. Donations in his memory may be made to the FitzPatrick Cancer Center in Plattsburgh. Vezina "Ve" Favreau, 82, of Mooers, died Friday, April 11, 2003, at the home of her daughter in Mooers. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Mooers. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday from St. Joseph's Church in Mooers. Entombment will follow at Whispering Maples Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Ellenburg Depot. A full obituary will appear in the Sunday Press - Republican. Florentine M. Camelo, 86, of High Street in Tupper Lake, N.Y., died April 10, 2003, at the home of her brother in Keeseville, N.Y. She was born in Tupper Lake on Jan. 3, 1917, the daughter of Dominick Joseph and Maria Josephine (Perry) Camelo. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, April 13th, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Richer Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be held Monday at noon at St. Alphonsus Church. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, May 3rd, following the spring interment service. George W. Harris, 85, of Rt. 9, Plattsburgh, died Friday, April 11, 2003, at Clinton County Nursing Home.
