Published: 04/10/03Joseph A. PillerSaranac — Mr. Joseph A. Piller, 88, of Burnt Hill Road, died Tuesday April 8, 2003, at his home. He was born in Long Island City on Oct. 23, 1914, son of the late Joseph and Anna (Hirschmann) Piller. Joseph retired after 32 years in the New York City Police Department in 1972. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, golf and gardening. Joseph was devoted to his cats. Joseph and his wife, Frances, enjoyed dancing with the Polar Squares. Joseph was an instructor at Clinton Community College for a few years in the Criminal Justice Department. He was a past member of the B.P.O. Elks in Keeseville and a past officer in the Saranac Methodist Church. Joseph is survived by his wife, the former Frances Sedlack, who he married on Oct. 5, 1940; three sons and three daughters-in-law, Gerald and Catherine Piller of Saranac, Steven and Veronica Piller of Kirkland, Wash., and Daniel and Janice Piller of Saranac; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Thursday, April 10, 2003, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Cadyville. A funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. from the Saranac Methodist Church in Saranac. Burial will follow in the Saranac Independence Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to the Saranac Rescue Squad. HAROLD "HAL" CRANSON, 80, of Piercefield died Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. Born Feb. 4, 1923, in Long Lake, he was the son of Eugene and Ethel Sabattis Cranson. Calling hours for Mr. Cranson will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Richer Funeral Home in Tupper Lake. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Dan Blankenship officiating. |
