Published: 04/01/03Charles F. Powers Jr.Morrisonville — Charles F. Powers Jr., 90, died Saturday, March 29, 2003, at the Glens Falls Hospital. He was born in Standish on April 30, 1912, the son of Charles and Ellen (Walker) Powers Sr. He was employed by Republic Steel in Lyon Mountain for 36 years and also at McGuire’s of Plattsburgh for several years. A welder by trade, he was an accomplished mechanic. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, trapping and camping. He was a member of St. Alexander’s Church in Morrisonville and Sacred Heart Church in Lake George. He moved to Morrisonville in 1970 and to Warrensburg in 2000 and resided at the Warren County Residential Hall until 2002. He is survived by his wife, Delima Powers; and two sons, Calvin of Lake George and Venice, Fla., and Jerry and his wife Cheryl of Orlando, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. There will be no calling hours. Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in St. Alexander's Cemetery in Morrisonville in the spring. Memorial donations may be made to the Sacred Heart Church in Lake George. The O'Neill-Redden-Drown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh is in charge of arrangements. Marie C. LaFrenierePlattsburgh — Marie C. LaFreniere, 77, of Plattsburgh, died Monday, March 31, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. She was born in Mooers Forks on April 24, 1925, daughter of Henry and Lillian (Rock) Valley. She formerly worked at the Key Bank in Ellenburg. She was a member of St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh and a former member of St. Edmund's Church in Ellenburg. She was a former member of the Catholic Daughters of America and the Sorrell-Woodward American Legion Post 1623 Ladies Auxillary. She was an avid berry picker, pie maker and enjoyed doing puzzles. She is survived by a son, Randall LaFreniere of Ellenburg Depot; three daughters and sons-in-law, Gayle and Tom Grogan of Clifton Park, Linda and David Johnson of Ellenburg Depot and Kim and Robert Annis of Plattsburgh; two sisters, Velma Swiatowicz of Plattsburgh and Teresa Supernaw of Plattsburgh; eight grandchildren; four great-grand-children; and several nieces and nephews. Her husband, Clarence died on February 3, 1992. Five sisters, Leona Sottong, Grace Peterson, Merilda Paul, Viola Dashnaw and Pauline Douglas; three brothers, Buster, Homer and Richard Valley; a grandson, David Johnson; and a son-in-law Norman Jarvis, also died earlier. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Ellenburg Depot. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Thursday from St. Edmund's Church in Ellenburg. Interment will follow in Whispering Maples Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Ellenburg Depot. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Edmund's Church Building Fund. Raymond A. BedardChamplain — Raymond A. Bedard, 99, of Champlain passed away Saturday, March 29, 2003, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Walter and Theresa Thornton of Jersey Swamp Road, West Chazy. He was born April 20, 1903, in LaColle, Quebec, the son of Raymond and Mederise (Girard) Bedard. He was the owner of Bedard Farm Equipment in Champlain, where he sold and serviced chain saws and farm equipment. Raymond was also known for being an excellent welder and an usher at St. Mary's Church in Champlain. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, the former Rose Anna Cayer, who passed away in March of 1971; two sons, Clement Bedard and Gerald Bedard; and 12 brothers and sisters. Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Theresa Thornton and her husband Walter of West Chazy, Claire Clark and her husband Lockwood of Champlain and Anita Giroux and her husband Royal of Chazy; seven sons and daughters-in-law, Marcel and Bonnie Bedard of Poestenkill, N.Y., James and Ginny Bedard of Winchester, N.H., Gabriel and Mary Lou Bedard of Merrimack, N.H., Real and Sandy Bedard of LaColle, Quebec, and Peter and Kathy Bedard of Chazy; two daughters-in-law, Lola Bedard of Plattsburgh and Aline Bedard of Rouses Point; and 33 grandchildren. Calling hours will be Wednesday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 11 to 11:45 a.m. at the Clark Funeral Home in Champlain. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 12 noon, Thursday at St. Mary's Church in Champlain. John A. GrantCape Canaveral, Fla. — John A. Grant, 77, of Caroline Street, Cape Canaveral, Fla., passed away Saturday, March 22, 2003. Mr. Grant was born in Birmingham, Ala. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1966 after 20 years of service. He was the owner and operator of the C & J Tavern and worked for the state of New York Department of Labor and then for the Town of Peru, Peru, N.Y., as a building inspector and bus driver for the school district. He was a lifelong member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Military Retiree Association. John and his wife, Connie, relocated to Brevard County, Florida in 1995. Mr. Grant is survived by his wife of 44 years, Connie Marsha Grant of Peru, N.Y.; sons, Howard Grant and Jere Grant; sister Inez Boyne; and brother, Lee Grant of Michigan; and granddaughter, Jennifer Grant. Services will be held at Fountain Head Cemetery in Melbourne, Fla. Harold KaneCROWN POINT, NY — Harold Kane, 80, of Ferry Road, Crown Point, N.Y., passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2003, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vt. Harold was born in New York City on Oct. 2, 1922, and received services from the Essex County ARC since 1991. Mr. Kane was a gentleman who enjoyed gardening, fishing, the holidays, especially Christmas and construction projects. He liked being surrounded by his house-mates and friends. He loved vacations, visiting new places and meeting people. Harold will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Calling hours will be held Tuesday April 1, 2003, 1 to 2 p.m. at the Harland Funeral Home, Port Henry. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home, Reverend William G. Muench, officiating. Burial will be in the Moriah Union Cemetery later in the spring. ROGER LEO JOCK, 61 of Constable, died Monday, March 31, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center, Plattsburgh. Calling hours will be held at the Spaulding Funeral Home in Malone on Wednesday from 3:30 p.m. until time for the funeral at 7:30 p.m. Interment will be held later in the Briggs St. Cemetery.
