Published: 03/27/03John H. PelkeyKeeseville — John H. Pelkey, 81, of Church Street, Keeseville, died Wednesday, March 26, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in the Glen in Jay, July 2, 1921, the son of Nelson and Marguerite (Ward) Pelkey. Mr. Pelkey served in the U.S. Army Air Corp. from September 1942 to September 1945. He was a body and fender repairman for Durocher's in Plattsburgh for many years. He was a communicant of St. John's Church in Keeseville. John enjoyed hunting, fishing and bird watching. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, the former Alma R. Furnia of Keeseville; a son, John R. Pelkey of Morrisonville; a daughter, Bonnie Mitchell of Keeseville; two sisters, Dorothy Russell of Peru and Muriel Douglas of Keeseville; three grandchildren, John Jason Pelkey of Milton, Vt., Scott Earl Pelkey of Cortland and Jamie Marie Pelkey of Plattsburgh; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Ella Green, Emma Bergstrom, Anna Irwin and Georgia Myhre; and one brother, Shirley Pelkey. Calling hours will be held Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Keeseville. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. John's Church in Keeseville with Monsignor Leeward Poissant, pastor, celebrating. Burial will be in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to the National Alzheimer's Association. Helen C. BlowEllenburg Center — Helen C. Blow, 88, died Monday, March 24, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. She was born in Ellenburg Center on Oct. 5, 1914, the daughter of Frederick J. and Ethel C. (Hindes) Carpenter. Helen graduated from Plattsburgh Normal School and taught in the Ellenburg District for several years before being employed by the Clinton County Department of Social Services for many years retiring as Director in 1978. She was a member of the Ellenburg Center United Methodist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star, the Rural Letter Carriers Auxiliary and the Sorrell-Woodward American Legion Ladies Auxillary. She is survived by a niece, Kay and Robert Washbourne of Plattsburgh; three nephews, Thomas B. and Yvonne Hobbs of Nichols, Robert and Joan Hobbs of Ellenburg Center and Donald and Maryanne Brooks of Greenwich; a brother-in-law, Marshall and Sonja Blow of Rouses Point; and eight great-nieces and nephews. Her husband Donald, died in 1971. Her sister, Frances Hobbs died in 1996 and a great-nephew, Robert Washbourne died in 1995. Calling hours were held on Wednesday at the E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Ellenburg Depot. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday from the Ellenburg Center United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery in Ellenburg Center in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Ellenburg Center Rescue Squad, the Vilas Home or the United Methodist Church of Ellenburg Center. William W. OsburnBEEKMANTOWN — William W. Osburn, 65, of Beekmantown, N.Y., passed away peacefully at his home on the Burke Road, Beekmantown, on March, 24, 2003. He was born Sept. 26, 1937 in Bedford, Iowa, the son of Walter and Mildred (Pollock) Osburn. After graduation from Bedford High School, William enlisted in the U.S. Air Force May 31, 1956. He proudly served his country as an aircraft mechanic for 24 years and did one tour in Vietnam, retiring in 1980. While serving his country he received the U.S. Air Force Commendation Medal and the Bronze Star Metal. He is presently a member of the American Legion Post 20. After retiring from the service he continued to work, working for Patrick’s Vending Service for four and a half years, Merkel’s Department Store in shipping and receiving for nine years and presently employed at Sam’s Club which he helped open in shipping and receiving. William is predeceased by his father, Walter and his mother Mildred, both of Bedford, Iowa. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Mary of Beekmantown; two daughters, Jodie Lynn Osburn of Malone, N.Y., and Jodi Lou Sheridon and her husband Thomas of Bolton Landing, N.Y.; two sons, William Wells of Chicago, Ill., and his companion Lisa and Leslie "Todd" Wells and his wife Stacy of Gansvoort, N.Y.; two stepsons, Randy Lee Sears and his wife Helen of Beekmantown, N.Y., and Lawrence Sears and his companion Sherri of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; a brother, Edwin and his wife Edith of Albuquerque, N.M., Robert and his wife Doris of Bedford, Iowa; a sister, Doris John and her husband James of Clinton, Iowa, Clarice Meredith of Bedford, Iowa. Calling hours will be held Thursday, March 27, 2003, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh, N.Y. A funeral service will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Plattsburgh. Interment with military honors will be held at a later date in the St. Peter’s Cemetery. Members of the American Legion post 20 are asked to meet Thursday at 7 p.m. for services. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the North Country, Inc., 386 Rugar Street, Plattsburgh, NY 12901. Ethel F. LindbergPLATTSBURGH — Ethel F. Lindberg, 88, formerly of Beekman Towers, died Tuesday, March 25, 2003, at the Clinton County Nursing Home. She was born in Orange, N.J., on May 20, 1914, the daughter of Ross and Ellen Elizabeth (Hagar) Langworthy. Ethel was a graduate of Vassar College. She was a member of the Episcopal Church and a former Literacy Volunteer, RSVP and Retired Senior Volunteer Program. Mrs. Lindberg was a secretary for the Green Thumb Program in Plattsburgh. Survivors include, one son, Henry G. "Corky" Lindberg Jr. and his wife, Carol of Plattsburgh; one daughter, Mrs. Thomas (Elizabeth) "Tish" King of Lakewood, N.J.; four grandchildren, Heather Lindberg of Plattsburgh, Mrs. Marc (Cindy) Daniels of Beumont, Texas, Brian King and his wife, Jackie of Chesapeake, Va., and Thomas King and his wife, Kim of Brick, N.J.; and five great-grandchildren, Marc A. Daniels, Thomas, Conner, Cassie, and Rory King. There will be no public calling hours. A graveside service will be at a later date in the Riverside Cemetery in Plattsburgh. Memorial donations may be made to the Make A Wish Foundation. The R.W. Walker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Lottie M. PatnodeAltona — Lottie M. Patnode, 97, of Altona, died Tuesday, March 25, 2003, at the National Health Center in Clinton, S.C. She was born in Ellenburg Depot on Feb. 6, 1906, the daughter of Henry and Melinda (LaBarge) Rollo. She was a member of Holy Angels Church and was a former member of the Holy Angels Altar-Rosary Society. She is survived by four grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Her husband, William Patnode died in 1981. A daughter, Veronica Trombley died in 1989. Three sisters and two brothers also died earlier. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Ellenburg Depot. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Saturday from Holy Angels Church in Altona. Interment will be in the parish cemetery in the spring. Robert R. IvesMoriah, N.Y. — Robert R. Ives, 66, of Moriah Road, Moriah, N.Y., died March 25, 2003, at Fletcher Allen Hospital in Burlington, Vt. Bob was born Feb. 25, 1937, in Norwalk, Conn., to Frank and Katie (Tompkins) Ives. Bob was well known for his mechanical abilities and worked at many garages in the town of Moriah. He owned and operated Moon Hill Garage in Moriah for 22 years. He enjoyed riding his 1962 Harley Davidson motorcycle, which will be donated to a national museum and watching NASCAR racing. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family and all of his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Marion (Daha) Ives of Moriah; their three sons, Robert Ives of Ogdensburg, Brian Ives of Port Henry and Bradley Ives of Crown Point; two daughters, Ruth Putnam of Ticonderoga and Kelly White of Auburn, N.Y.; ten grandchildren, Robert J. Ives, 19, Melissa Savage, 21, Jennifer Savage, 20, Christina Nolan, 17, Brianna Ives, 13, of Ticonderoga, Destiny Wood, 10, of Crown Point, and Nicole Nolan, 16, and Kelvin Nolan, 14, of Auburn, N.Y., Savannah Smith, 2, and Aalyiah Ives, 1; two brothers, Vincent Ives of New Milford, Conn., and William Ives of Keeseville; his four sisters, Katie Avery of Witherbee, Ruth Deflorio, of Norwalk, Conn., Norma Malone of Port Henry and Edna Ives of Keene Valley; several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry. A funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date. Bob was an honorary member of the Town of Moriah Ambulance Squad for over 10 years, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Town of Moriah Ambulance Squad. Lawrence L. Carpenter, 51, of Erin Avenue, Plattsburgh, died on Wednesday, March 26, 2003, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany. Funeral arrangments are incomplete and will be announced by Brown Funeral in Plattsburgh. Robert L. Rust, 69, of Railroad Street, Malone, N.Y., died Tuesday afternoon, March 25, 2003, at the Alice Hyde Medical Center, where he had been admitted earlier that day. He was born in Burke, N.Y., Feb. 25, 1934, the son of the late Alfred and Cora (Barnes) Rust. There are no calling hours. Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in St. John Bosco Cemetery later in the spring. Arrangements are through the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Service, Inc. of Malone. Mary Ellen (Pearson) Spring, 63, died in Savanah, Ga., Tuesday, March 25, 2003, after a brief illness. She was born in Ticonderoga, N.Y., the daughter of Charles and Helen (Johnson) Pearson. Funeral services will be held in Mt. Vernon, Ga., on Thursday, March, 27, 2003. Burial and memorial services will be held in Ticonderoga at a later date.
