Alden Fredrick Deyo

Altona — Alden Fredrick Deyo, 82, left this world Monday, March 3, 2003, at his home with his devoted wife and children at his bedside following a long illness.

Alden was born Jan. 8, 1921, in Altona to Fredrick W. Deyo and Lillian M. (Bodah) Deyo.

Alden was a graduate of Ellenburg Central School, attended Burlington Law School and Albany Law School. Alden and Irene were married on Sept. 22, 1941, at St. Ann's Church in Mooers Forks.

Alden helped build and operate the Altona Theater. Later, Alden was Town Clerk for Altona. For many years he was self-employed as a truck driver and became owner of his own fleet of trucks that supplied lime for both commercial and agricultural use over the North Country. After retiring from his trucking business he than was owner and operator of Deyo's Service Station in Chazy, N.Y. After moving his family to Chazy in 1959 he extended his business to Deyo's Grocery at the same location in Chazy, from 1960 to 1972, with his loving wife, Irene, always working at his side. Alden returned to reside in Altona in 1977, where he owned Deyo's Apartments until he retired.

Alden belonged to the Chazy Lion's Club while residing in Chazy, he enjoyed boating and was a licensed navigator as a member of the U.S. Power Squadron. Alden and Irene also enjoyed traveling in their RV motor home, visiting their children in Texas, Kentucky, Wisconsin and Tennessee. He was a member of Good Sammer's RV Club chapter 50. In the 1990's Alden accomplished his dream to see California by traveling cross country. Alden was a member of the Holy Angel's Church and did volunteer work at the Bingo hall. He also enjoyed NASCAR racing and attended many races.

Alden is survived by his wife, Irene Dora (Parsons) Deyo of Altona; four sons and daughters-in-law, Alden and Stella Deyo of Coopersville, Kevin and Debra Deyo of Altona, Jeffrey and Marcy Deyo of White Hall and Brad and Ivory Deyo of Louisville, Ky.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Glenn Latremore of Chazy, Sharron and Larry Miller of Beekmantown and Vanessa Deyo of Montgomery, Texas; 20 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; a sister, Theresa Lamoy of Middlegrove, N.Y.; a sister-in law, Lorraine Nephew of Ladylake, Fla.; Aunt Esterine Bodah of Altona; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Alden was predeceased by his parents, Fredrick and Lillian (Bodah) Deyo; two sons, Jerry Dwight Deyo and Scott Ryan Deyo; and a daughter, Lillian May (Deyo) Smith.

The family wishes to extend their thanks and gratitude to Hospice of the North Country for all their support.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, March 5, 2003, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Altona. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday, March 6, 2003, at 10:30 a.m. from Holy Angel's Church in Altona. Burial will follow in Holy Angel's Cemetery in Altona later in the year.

Lyda F. Martin

CUMBERLAND HEAD — Lyda F. "Marty" Martin, 82, of 43 Seneca Drive, Cumberland Head, died Tuesday, March 4, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center.

Mrs. Martin was born in AuSable Forks on Nov. 6, 1920, the daughter of John and Irene (Pheffer) Meconi. She married Robert W. Martin at the Turnpike Wesleyan Church in 1940. Mr. Martin died in 1988.

Mrs. Martin enjoyed family gatherings, knitting and her dogs.

She worked for H.L. Greens Department Store, in the North Country Shopping Center, for 36 years until retiring in 1993.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Martin of Morrisonville and Douglas Martin of Plattsburgh; three daughters, Patricia LaBombard and her companion Claude Schafer of Pattersonville, N.Y., Maxine Provost and her husband Gary of Saranac and Marilyn Goddeau of Cumberland Head; eight grandchildren, Darren LaBombard, Bambi Jo Allen, Gary, Frank and Dale Provost, Peter and John

Martin and Sarah Gerou; several great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

One sister, Mary Recore and one grandson, Gary LaBombard died earlier.

Calling hours will be held Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the Funeral Home Chapel. Entombment will be in Whispering Maples Mausoleum.

Donations in her memory, may be made to the Cancer Society.

Audrey L. Delaire

Crown Point, N.Y. — Audrey L. Delaire, 83, of 950 White Church Road, Crown Point, died Monday, March 3, 2003, at the Moses Ludington Hospital in Ticonderoga.

She was born Aug. 23, 1919, in Ticonderoga, N.Y., the daughter of Henry and Mildred (Saunders) Stanton. Audrey's love was her family and her dogs.

She is survived by her daughter, Deanna Sears of Crown Point; three grandchildren, Jacalyn Popp, Jodie Bruce and Tammy Delaire; seven great- grandchildren, Jordan Popp, Brittany Bruce, Jessica Bruce, Tylor McGuinness, Caleb McGuinness, Christy McGuinness and Shelby McGuinness.

She is predeceased by her husband, Holland Delaire; her son, Daniel Delaire; her sister, Hazel Perry; and her brother, Daniel Stanton.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday, March 5 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry. A funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the White Church Cemetery in the spring.

Donations may be made in Audrey's memory to the A.E. Phelps Fire and Rescue Squad in Crown Point.

Florence P. Bechard

ROUSES POINT — Florence P. Bechard, 90, of Rouses Point, passed away Sunday, March 2, 2003, at the Cedar Hedge Nursing Home in Rouses Point.

She was born March 17,1912, in Rouses Point, the daughter of Victor and Rosemma (Gregoire) Hebert.

She married Frank Bechard June 22,1932, in St. Patrick's Church in Rouses Point.

Florence was a member of St. Patrick’s Church and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America in Rouses Point.

Florence was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Frank who passed away Aug. 6,1982; one son, Ronald Bechard who passed away January of 2003; one brother, Norman Hebert; and one sister, Cecile.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Claude and Beverly Bechard of Rouses Point and North Port, Fla.; one brother, Bernard Hebert of Oregon; four sisters, Estelle Hebert, Gertude Hebert, Evelyn Hebert and Claire Hebert, all of Plattsburgh; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, March 4, 2003, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home in Rouses Point. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday, March 5, 2003, at 1 p.m. from St. Patrick's Church in Rouses Point.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Rouses Point Rescue Squad.

Edgar F. Sprague

LA MESA, Calif. — Edgar F. Sprague, 83, passed away, Feb. 12, 2003, with peace and dignity at his home in the

presence of his family.

He was predeceased by his wife Hope, his loving wife of 51 years.

He is survived by five children, Anthony, Richard, Judith Schuff, Gloria Jones and Michael, all of California. Also surviving are thirteen grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and one sister and brother-in-law, Lena S. and Charles C. Zaumetzer of AuSable Forks.

Edgar was born Nov. 11, 1919 in AuSable Forks, the son of Edgar Bromley Sprague and Alice (Ostetyee) Sprague.

He was a graduate of the local high school where he was an honor student and member of the baseball, basketball, tennis and cross country teams. After graduation from high school he attended Middlebury College and then moved to California where he became an aircraft engineer.

After serving in Iceland with the Army Air Corps, in World War II he returned to California where he spent the rest of his life.

Services and interment took place Feb. 20, 2003, at Fort Rose Crans National Cemetery, Point Loma, Calif.

Kenneth R. Pelkey, 75, of County Route 13, North Bangor, N.Y., died unexpectedly, Monday, March 3, 2003, at the Alice Hyde MedicaI Center in Malone, after being stricken at his home.

He was born in Old Town, Maine, on Jan. 7,1928, the son of the late Roy and Amelia (Daigle) Pelkey.

Calling hours will be in the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 8, 2003, at 10 a.m. in St. Augustine's Church in North Bangor, with the Rev. Peter Berg, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. John Bosco Cemetery in Malone, in the spring.

Kenneth K. Young, 78, of Lake Clear, N.Y., died Tuesday, March 04, 2003, at his home.

He was born in Manlius, N.Y., on Nov. 16,1924, the son of William and Pearl (Combs) Young.

Calling hours will be at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home, Inc. on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Masonic service will take place at 7:30 p.m. Friday evening. Masons are asked to meet at the funeral home at 7:15 p.m. A funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Adirondack Presbyterian Church in Lake Clear with Rev. Arthur B. Goyette, officiating. Burial will be in the Harrietstown Cemetery in Saranac Lake in May.
