Helen M. Kourofsky

Dannemora — Helen M. Kourofsky, 80, of Dannemora, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

She was born in Plattsburgh on Oct. 9, 1922, the daughter of Arthur and Ida (Betters) Thompson.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Dannemora and was a member of the Catholic Daughters in Dannemora and was a past Grand Regent. She also worked for many years at Pearl's Department Store, was a member of AARP and was an avid bowler for over 30 years and participated in the New York Senior Games.

Survivors include her husband John of Dannemora, whom she married May 28, 1942; two daughters, Judy Walker of Peru and Nancy Kourofsky of Rochester; two sisters, Anna Rock of Plattsburgh and Ruth Dutton of West Plattsburgh; five grandchildren, John, Shawn and Richard Walker of Peru and Amy Cole and Robert Kourofsky of Rochester; and several nieces and nephews.

Helen is predeceased by her parents; a son Robert; a brother, Richard Thompson; and a sister, Isabelle Gordon.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the O'Neill-Redden-Drown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Monday from St. Joseph's Church in Dannemora. Interment will be in the parish cemetery in the spring.

Floyd Stone

Sebring, Fla. — Floyd Stone, 80, of Sebring, Fla., died Feb. 16, 2003, in Sebring.

He was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y. Mr. Stone was a disabled veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and the Moose Club. Upon discharge from the Army, he finished high school and then went to college to become a teacher. He was a teacher at Madison Junior High School in Miami for many years. Upon retirement from the school, he moved to Sebring.

Survivors include his wife, Ethel; son Michael of Miami and Tarpon Springs; stepson George Gurnett of Cleveland, Mo.; one brother, Jean of Chazy, N.Y.; one sister, Felinda Rock of Morrisonville, N.Y.; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his father David; his mother Felinda; two brothers, David and Norman; and a sister, Virginia Facteau.

Memorial services were held at Stephenson - Nelson Funeral Home in Sebring, Fla.

Agnes E. Betters

AuSable Forks — Agnes E. Betters, 87, of South Street, AuSable Forks, passed away at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003.

She was born June 4, 1915, in AuSable Forks, the daughter of Robert and Philamen (Bombard) Murcray.

She was a member of Holy Name Church Parish. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Agnes loved all children and also enjoyed her flowers. She was a homebody and enjoyed cooking and baking.

She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Charles Betters of Lake Placid and Richard and Janice Betters of Keeseville; two daughters, Rose Blaise of Peru and Phyllis Betters of AuSable Forks; also surviving are several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Those who predeceased her were her husband, Halsey Betters, whom she married Feb. 22, 1939; he died in 1999; her sisters, Susan Murcray, Helen Blaise, Adeline LaBombard and Rose Bezio; also several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Sunday, March 2, 2003, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Zaumetzer - Sprague Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 10 a.m. at the Holy Name Catholic Church, AuSable Forks. Burial will be at a later date in the family plot in the parish cemetery.

Memorials to her may be made to the AuSable Forks Volunteer Ambulance Service.

Harold J. Jarvis

Altona — Harold J. "Yogi" Jarvis, 66, of the Forest Road, died unexpectedly on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003, at his home.

He was born in Forest, N.Y., on Sept. 14, 1936, the first son of Clarence and Harriet (Burl) Jarvis.

On Sept. 17, 1955, he married Betty Jane Perry at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Churubusco.

He had a love of cars and motors. He worked for Meyers and Vievia Chevrolet in Ellenburg Depot and later went to work for Phil Taylor's Chevrolet for 30 years, until his retirement.

Yogi is survived by his wife Betty; one daughter and son-in-law, James and Debra Carter of Ellenburg Center; three sons and two daughters-in-law, H. Gordon Jarvis of Ellenburg Depot, Michael and Deborah Jarvis of Mooers Forks and Todd and Sally Jarvis of Champlain; his grandchildren, Tori Carter, Christopher Jarvis, Logan and Taylor Jarvis and Rebecca and Adam Jarvis. He is also survived by one brother, Clayton Jarvis and his children Danny, Robert and Sharon; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Carol and Freeman LaValley of Mooers Forks and their son Steve, Linda and Gary Moore of Chazy and their children Kevin, Mark and Nicole; a sister-in-law, Linda and David Johnson and her children Norman, Tina and Penny.

Yogi is also survived by his dog Susie, who was his best friend.

He was predeceased by his parents, Clarence Jarvis and Harriet (Burl) Jarvis; one brother, Norman Jarvis and one sister-in-law, Lorraine Jarvis.

Yogi was an avid NASCAR fan (Dale Earnhardt) and wouldn't miss a race. He was a member of the Adirondack Tractor Pullers Association and enjoyed watching and helping his son and nephews pull their vehicles.

Yogi will be sadly missed by his family and everyone who knew him.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Ellenburg Depot. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday from Holy Angels Church in Altona. Interment will follow in Whispering Maples Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Ellenburg Depot.

Scott A. Marshall

Lake Placid — Scott A. Marshall, 46, of 91 River St., Lake Placid. N.Y., died at his home Friday morning, Feb. 28, 2003.

He was born in Irondequoit, N.Y., on Dec. 14, 1956, the son of Robert and Jane (O'Connell) Marshall.

Scott was a member of the Youth Athletic League and coached youth baseball. He was also active with the Boy Scouts of America. He worked for the Lake Placid Village at the Waste Water Treatment Plant.

Scott and his wife Karen (France) were married July 14, 1984, in Salamanca, N.Y. He is survived by his wife Karen; one daughter, Samantha Marshall; and two sons, Scott Marshall Jr. and Adam Marshall, all of Lake Placid. He is also survived by his mother and father, Robert and Jane Marshall of Frankfort, N.Y.; one sister, Sheryl Kendrick and her husband Scott of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and three brothers, Douglas Marshall and his wife Cristina of LeRoy, N.Y., Brian Marshall and his wife Barbara of Lake Placid and Kirk Marshall and his wife Janet of Mohawk, N.Y.

Friends may call at the Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid on Tuesday, March 4, from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. Rev. Mark Demers, pastor of the Adirondack Community Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the North Elba Cemetery in May.
