Francis A. "Frank" Drollette

Cadyville — Francis A. "Frank" Drollette, 69, of Rabideau Street, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, surrounded by his family and friends.

He was born in Dannemora on July 12, 1933, the son of Arthur F. and Mabel (Rock) Drollette.

Francis was a graduate of St. John's Academy, Plattsburgh, in 1949. He then served four years in the U.S. Air Force and became a staff sergeant during the Korean War. He then worked for 36 years at New York State Electric and Gas Corporation as a chief lineman, until his retirement in 1992. He was a member of the American Legion Post 1619 and a member of the Quarter Century Club through NYSEG. He was a former member of Lost Pond Hunting Club.

Survivors include his wife, Doris (Brault) Drollette of 46 1/2 years. They were married on Aug. 11, 1956; one son, Bruce and Lynn Drollette of Cadyville; two daughters, Sheilah and Michael Boyea of Ellenburg Center and Jennifer Drollette-Lottie of Cadyville; one son-in-law, Forrest Lottie of Plattsburgh; one brother, Gary and Marie Drollette of Cadyville; one sister, Shirley and Bernard Carter of Cadyville; a stepmother, Theresa Drollette of Saranac; one stepbrother, William and Leona Pardy of Morrisonville; one sister-in-law, Rita Goddeau of Morrisonville; six grandchildren, Stephanie and Matthew Drollette, Hilary and Philip Boyea and Shelby and Tricia Lottie; along with many nieces and nephews.

His parents predeceased him along with many aunts, uncles, two brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2003, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Park Row in Cadyville. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003, at 10 a.m. at St. James Minor Church in Cadyville. Burial will be later in the year.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society.

Valena Mae Lillian LaFave

Mooers Forks — Valena Mae Lillian LaFave, 72, died Monday, Feb. 24, 2003, at the Cedar Hedge Nursing Home in Rouses Point.

She was born in Mooers on July 23, 1930, the daughter of Henry and Valena (Stone) LaValley.

She was employed by Champlain Laundry in Champlain for over 20 years as a dry cleaner.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Andrew Provost of Rand Hill, Altona; two brothers, Louis LaValley and Homer LaValley of Brushton; a sister and brother-in-law, Myrtle and Alfred LaDue of Chateaugay; three brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law, Ruby and Roger Tetreault of Champlain, Patricia and Greg LaFave of Morrisonville and Roger Garrand of Mooers; her grandchildren, Tina and Robert Peryea of Altona, Tammy and Theodore Warren of Ellenburg Depot and Lee and Pamela Provost of Ellenburg Center; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Her husband, Lawrence LaFave, died Dec. 9, 2002. She was also predeceased by two sisters, four sisters-in-law and four brothers-in-law, Cora LaValley, Mildred and Louis Forrette, Jackie LaValley, Ella and Earl Whitis, Laura and Francis LaFave and Hazel and Francis Duffina.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Ellenburg Depot. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday from St. Ann's Church in Mooers Forks. Interment will follow in Whispering Maples Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Ellenburg Depot.

A reception will follow at St. Ann's Parish Center in Mooers Forks.

Sidney Pickman

Plattsburgh — Mr. Sidney Pickman, 78, of 138 South Peru St., Plattsburgh, N.Y., passed away Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, at CVPH Medical Center.

He was born in Hartford, Conn., on July 17, 1924, the son of the late Phillip Pickman and Eva Bertha (Bergen) Pickman and stepson of Margaret (Franchina) Pickman.

Sidney served in the U.S. Coast Guard from March 1943 to December 1945 as a motor machinist mate during World War II.

He is survived by his wife, the former Bernice M. Samler of Plattsburgh, whom he married Aug. 5, 1945, in Hartford, Conn. They were married 57 1/2 years; four children, Lisabeth P. Smith and her husband John of Little River, S.C., Rachel M. Ross of Plattsburgh, Jay J. Pickman and his wife Jennifer of Ogdensburg, N.Y., and Howard L. Pickman and his wife Shelly of Dannemora, N.Y.; three sisters, Lorraine Ottinger and her husband Fred of Plattsburgh, Annette Yardan and her husband John of Plattsburgh and Sandy McPheeters of Fort Worth, Texas; seven grandchildren, Kyle E. Ross, Matthew R. Pickman, Michael P. Pickman, Sabrina L. Pickman, Phillip R. Pickman, Emma K. Pickman and Seth G. Pickman.

Sidney was the co-owner with his father of Veterans Tire Service in Plattsburgh and later worked in sales at Montgomery Ward and Sears. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Masonic Lodge and the American Legion. Sid was an avid antique collector and a local auctioneer. He always loved a good joke. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will he held at the convenience of the family at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Loretta P. Cash

Rouses Point — Loretta P. Cash, 72, of Rouses Point, passed away Monday, Feb. 24, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

She was born Jan. 17, 1931, in Dover, Del., the daughter of Willis and Irene Parsons.

Loretta is predeceased by her parents; her husband, Paul Cash; two brothers, Aurel Parsons and Carl Parsons; and one sister, Leah Scriver.

She is survived by five sons, Ronnie Fresn of Florida, Larry Fresn of Champlain, Jerry Fresn of Champlain, Ken Fresn of Mooers and Dave Fresn of North Carolina; three daughters and sons-in-law, Dolores and Ronnie Murray of Illinois, Connie and Bruce Anctil of Rouses Point and Shirley and James Deso of Rouses Point; one brother, Ralph Parsons of Rouses Point; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

There will be no public calling hours. A graveside service will be held in the spring at St. Mary's Cemetery in Champlain.

Arrangements are with the Clark Funeral Home in Rouses Point.

Daniel A. Ross

Lake George, N.Y. — Daniel A. Ross. 42, of Lake George, N.Y., passed away Feb. 21, 2003, following a long illness.

He was born in Ticonderoga, N.Y., on May 19, 1960, the son of Robert Ross of Crown Point and the late Geraldine Barror of New York.

An award winning poet, Danny had a lifelong passion for drawing, art and music. He impressed all with his talent for expressing his spirituality and his love of nature and Native Americans in his paintings. Danny's artistic ability was also evident in his culinary skill, which he was able to express while working in several of the fine dining establishments throughout the Lake George Region.

Those fortunate to call Danny a friend knew he had a heart of gold and would give you the shirt off his back. Danny's relationship with the Lord was very strong. The Bible was an extension of himself, giving him the ability to answer any questions one might have about the Bible. Danny touched and inspired so many lives in the short time he was with us. It was his goal in life to share what he knew, learn what he didn't know and to do what he could to help other people.

He will be missed by all.

Besides his mother, Danny was also predeceased by his very special grandmother, Arlene "Pete" Barror of Ticonderoga.

In addition to his father, Dan is survived by two sons, Jeremy D. Ross, stationed in Warner Robins, Ga., and Nathan M. Ross of Lake George; four brothers, Gary Parot and David Ross, both of Ticonderoga and Eric Thatcher and Darren Ross, both of Warrensburg; two sisters, Laurie Ross of Port Henry and Sandie Parot of Crown Point; and his children's mother and lifelong best friend, Donna Taylor of Lake George.

A memorial service will be conducted on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003, at 2 p.m. at the Harland Funeral Home, Port Henry.

Leroy Maggy

Redford — Leroy Maggy, 62, of Ogdensburg and formerly of Redford, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003.

He was born in Redford on Sept. 2, 1940, the son of Joseph and Alice (Barie) Maggy.

He was a avid artist and enjoyed following the space program. He enjoyed playing golf.

Survivors include his mother, Alice Maggy of Plattsburgh; one brother, Gerald Maggy of Phoenix, Ariz.; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Betty and Thomas Weightman of Morrisonville, Mary Wood of Morrisonville and Constance and Charles Hall of Redford; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his father, Joseph Maggy.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003, at 1 p.m. at the Church of The Assumption in Redford. Burial will be at a later date in the parish cemetery.

Donations may be made to the Assumption of Mary School Endowment Fund.

Arrangements are by the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

Michael J. Burke

Malone, N.Y. — Michael J. Burke, 57, of 21 Highland Ave., Malone, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003, at the Alice Hyde Medical Center.

He was born on Nov. 7, 1945, in Rome, N.Y., the son of Martin and Josephine (Harding) Burke. They predeceased him.

He married Mary Ellen Lyng on Feb. 14, 1970, in St. Joseph's Church, Malone, N.Y., with Rev. John Mullvaney officiating.

Besides his wife of 33 years, two sons and one daughter-in-law survive him, Sean and Lori Burke and Michael M. Burke, all of Malone, N.Y.; two granddaughters, Kaitlyn and Olivia Burke of Malone, N.Y.; a brother, Timothy Burke of Malone, N.Y.; and a sister, Kathy Montigelli of Black River, N.Y.

Mike lived most of his life in Malone and attended schools in AuSable Forks, N.Y., and Plattsburgh, N.Y. He graduated from Plattsburgh High School in 1962. He earned his teaching degree from Plattsburgh State University in 1967, later being awarded his teaching certificate from Plattsburgh State University. He taught in the English department of the Malone Central School District for 37 years, retiring in June of 2002. He also served as chairman of the English department during his teaching career.

He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church and served on the parish council; member of the Malone Lodge of Elks Lodge 1303 and was chairman of the Elk's Scholarship Committee for over 20 years; member of the Malone Golf and Country Club, Amvets and American Legion Post 219. He was on the board of directors of North Star Industries for 25 years and served as its president for 12 years; past chairman of the Malone Winter Carnival, taught at North Country Community College and was the first recipient of the Adjunct Faculty Award of North Country Community College. He also served on the board of directors of the Franklin County Red Cross.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the St. Mary-Murphy Funeral Home chapel. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003, at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, with Msgr. C. John McAvoy officiating. Spring burial will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Lake Titus Road.

Memorial donations may be made to the Michael J. Burke Scholarship Fund, Franklin Academy High School, Malone.

Funeral arrangements are through St. Mary-Murphy Funeral Home, Inc., in Malone, N.Y.

Anna Streib Janke

Columbus, N.C. — Anna Streib Janke, 96, of 501 Park St., Columbus, N.C., died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2003, at her home.

She was born in College Point, N.Y., the daughter of the late Henry and Mary (O'Gorman) Streib.

She received an honorary masters degree from State University of New York at Delhi. Mrs. Janke was a member of the Delaware Rebekah Lodge 318, the American Legion Auxiliary Post 250 in Tryon, N.C., and a lifelong member of Episcopal Altar Guild. She was a former Sunday School teacher and choir member in St. James Episcopal Church in Delhi, N.Y., and was also a member of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Tryon, N.C.

Surviving is one son, Vincent Janke of Montour Falls, N.Y.; and ten grandchildren; ten great - grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Rev. Richard K. Janke and Theodore Janke.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2003, in Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Tryon, N.C., with Rev. Dr. Michael Doty officiating.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2003, and Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003, at the home, 501 Park St., Columbus, N.C.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, 130 Forest Glen Dr., Columbus, NC 28722.

McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon, N.C., is in charge of arrangements.

Earl J. "Fred" Lord, 67, of State Route 374, Brainardsville, died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003, at Alice Hyde Medical Center, Malone, N.Y.

He was born in Ellenburg Center, N.Y., on Oct. 31, 1935, the son of Henry and Emma (Soulia) Lord.

Calling hours will be held at the Chateaugay Funeral Home on Tuesday, Feb. 25 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 26, in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Ray Moreau of St. Patrick's Church officiating. Burial will take place in the spring at St. Edmund's Cemetery, Ellenburg.
