Published: 02/19/03Duane C. "Peanut" LawrenceVermontville — Duane C. "Peanut" Lawrence, 61, of Swinyer Rd., Vermontville, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, at his home. He was born in Saranac Lake on Jan. 20, 1942, the son of Earl and Myrtle (Skeels) Lawrence. Mr. Lawrence had been a resident of the area for many years. He loved to ski and was a member of the ski patrol at Whiteface Mountain. He was also involved in setting the pole lines for Paleface Ski Area in Wilmington. He later worked construction in the area and was hired as a carpenter to work on Sardi's Restaurant in New York City. During the 1980 Winter Olympics he drove a shuttle bus and later worked for Lake Placid Sightseeing as a bus driver, tour guide and office manager along with Rudy Scheller. He retired in 1995 for health reasons. Duane was a member of the Chesterfield Fish and Game Club and the Sons of the American Legion. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed camping and boating. He also loved playing cards, shuffle board, pool and dominos. He especially loved his grandchildren and his german shepard Celine. He is survived by his wife, the former Miriam Poissant; four daughters, Phyllis Gaffney and her husband James of Lake Placid, Alice Cave and her husband Richard of Jay, N.Y., Lee Ann Lawrence of Saranac Lake and Grace Doner and her husband Richard of AuSable Forks; two step daughters, Victoria Parish and her husband Kenneth of Creuve, Va., and Erin Bell of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; one step son, Reginald Poissant of Columbus, Ga.; 19 grandchildren; one sister, Grace Bushey and her husband George of AuSable Forks, N.Y.; two brothers, Earl Lawrence and his wife Cathy of Peru, N.Y., and Almon Lawrence and his wife Virginia of AuSable Forks, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Lawrence in 1985; his mother, Myrtle Skeels Lawrence in 2002; and his sister, Alice Gallo in 1970. Visitation will be at Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be held Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Father Alan Macnab vicar of St. James Episcopal Church in AuSable Forks, officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in Vermontville in May. Friends wishing to remember Mr. Lawrence may make memorial contributions to St. Paul's Food Pantry in care of the funeral home. Alice F. PrattPort Henry — Alice F. Pratt, 75, of Stone Street, Port Henry, died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, at Porter Medical Facility in Middlebury, Vt., surrounded by her loving family. Born in Port Henry on Oct. 14, 1927, she was the daughter of Thomas and Cecelia (Vanderhoof) Trapasso. Together with her husband Roger they owned and operated Bertrand Cleaners for many years in Port Henry until their retirement. Alice was a very energetic, outgoing and fun loving person who loved spending time with her family especially her four great-grandchildren who brought her much joy. Survivors include her husband of 55 years Roger M. Pratt; two daughters, Linda Pratt and Sherry and her husband Bill; one son, Roger T. Pratt and his wife Denise, all of Port Henry; two grandchildren, Kelly (Pratt) Arnold and her husband Jim of Selden, N.Y., and Brande (Pratt) Mitchell and her husband Dave of Glenville, N.Y.; four great- grandchildren, Connor Arnold and Anna Shea and Sadie and Emma Rose Mitchell; four sisters, Gen Baird of Port Henry, Yolanda (Lon) Pratt of Glens Falls, Carol French of Winchester, Va., and Dottie Larrow of Clearwater, Fla.; one brother Louis Trapasso of Port Henry; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Thomas Trapasso of Port Henry. In honor of Alice's wishes there will be no calling hours. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery in the spring with a graveside service to be announced at a later date. Friends and family who wish may have masses said in her memory. Francis L. ForgaysSebring, FLA. — Francis L. Forgays, 85, of Sebring, Fla., died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, at Florida Hospital Lake Placid. He was born in Rouses Point, N.Y. He came to Sebring in 2001 from Kissimmee, Fla. He was retired from the U.S. Army. He was a member of the American Legion and Moose Lodge of Kissimmee, Fla. He is survived by his wife, Elaine Forgays of Sebring, Fla.; one step son, Glenn Darryl Kjosen of Denver, Colo.; two daughters, Kathy P. Jordan of Orlando, Fla., and Donna M. Forgays of Naples, Fla.; three step daughters, Cynthia Kjosen of Denmark, Karen G. Kelly of Orlando, Fla., and Jill E. Frye of Jacksonville, Fla.; one sister, Ella Mae Weldon of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; and eight grandchildren. AnnisPERU — Theodore E. Annis, 66, of Calkins Road, died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, at the Elizabethtown Community Hospital. He was born on Nov. 11, 1936, in Peru, N.Y., the son of Edmund and Maryetta (Rock) Annis. Theodore worked as a custodian at the Peru Central School for 12 years. He was a former member of the Peru Outpost Salvation Army. Survivors include one son, Phillip Annis and his companion, Nicole Burgess of Plattsburgh; one daughter, Heather Annis of Peru; one brother, Edmund "Jr." Annis of Plattsburgh; four sisters, Elsie Manor of Plattsburgh, Margaret Walker of Peru, Etta Farley of Queensbury, N.Y., and Annie Eberheardt of Catskills, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Limewood Annis, Floyd Annis, and Donald Annis; and three sisters, Shirley Kaisar, Mildred Rock and Loretta Annis. Calling hours will be held on Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel at 11 a.m. Jeffrey P. MauranMineville — Jeffrey P. Mauran, 35, born on May 7, 1967, son of Alfred and Merceanna Mauran of MineviIle, passed away at home on Monday, Feb. 17, 2003. He graduated from Moriah Central School in 1986 and served in the U.S. Army from 1985 until 1988 with an honorable discharge. He was employed at E.J. Monroes Inc. until a tragic accident on March 21, 1987, which rendered him quadriplegic. Jeff's current occupation was the "Advocate for the Disabled" serving Essex County. He was involved in several local projects including a tax exemption for the disabled for the Town of Moriah, in Essex County, a handicapped accessible ramp at Glens Falls National Bank and the installation of an elevator at Ticonderoga Central High School. He is survived by a daughter, Kurstin J. Mauran of Moriah; three sisters, Kathy and Sam Ezzo of Queensbury, Doreen Goden of Hudson Falls and Carol and Randy Patnode of Crown Point; six brothers, Douglas and Michelle of Moriah, William of Queensbury, Brian and Jerri-Sue of Hudson Falls, Tracy of Kingsbury, Craig of Saratoga and Mark of Mineville; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his parents; three brothers; a sister; and one nephew. Calling hours will be held Thursday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of All Saints in Mineville. Burial will be at a later date. LarosePlattsburgh — Barbara E. Larose, 77, of 2164 State Route 22B, Morrisonville, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003. She was born in Rouses Point on Sept. 17, 1925, daughter of James and Theresa (Young) Frenya. Barbara married Eugene E. Larose in 1946. The ceremony was officiated by Father McCasland. "Gene" died in February 1976. Her husband Gene was a NYS Corrections Officer and accepted a transfer to Mattawan State Hospital in Newburg, N.Y., in 1954. She was a quality control specialist for Beacon Appliances in Beacon, N.Y. They made their home in Hopewell Jct., N.Y. She returned to Plattsburgh in 1988 to be closer to her family. Barbara was an avid reader, enjoyed watching TV and crocheting. Survivors include three sisters, Irene (Frenya) Major of Rouses Point, Myrtle (Frenya) Premore of Florida and Genevieve (Frenya) Cyr, also of Florida; several nieces, nephews and great-nephews including, James and Carrie Frenya and their sons Adam and Tom of Morrisonville and Howard and Wanda Frenya and their son Ryan of Williamstown Pa. Barbara was predeceased by her parents and two brothers, Howard and Douglas Frenya and her nephew Donald Frenya. At her request, there will be no viewing. After cremation, a ceremony will be held at the Brown Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, March 1, 2003, at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Chazy, N.Y. Sister Christine Boadway, OP, 85, of the Dominican Sisters of Hope, died at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh, N.Y., Monday, Jan. 27, 2003. She was born Theresa Boadway on July 15, 1917, in Ellenburg, N.Y., daughter of the late Nelson and Christine (Trombley) Boadway. Arrangements are with the Perrott-Berardinelli Home for Funerals, Inc. in Newburgh. Visiting hours were held Wednesday, Jan. 29 and Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, in the main chapel of the Newburgh Center of Hope, a Mass of Christian burial followed in the Dominican Sisters of Hope cemetery in Newburgh. Ida C. LaMoy, 74, of Church Street and formerly of Second Street, died on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003 at the Green Manor Nursing Home in Ghent, N.Y. She was born in Fredericksburgh, Va., on Jan. 11, 1929, daughter of Eppie and Clementine Crobin. A memorial will be held in her honor at the the Christian Center on Park Street in Tupper Lake, with pastor David Boyea officiating on Feb. 22, 2003 at 11 a.m. with a reception to immediately follow at the VFW Arrangements are with the Richer Funeral Home, Tupper Lake. Floyd Arthur Stone, 80, of Sebring, Florida died Feb. 16, 2003. He was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., and had been a resident of Sebring since 1978. Memorial services will be held Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, Rev. R.L. PoIk officiating. Cremation arrangements are with the Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home, Sebring, Florida. Lorraine E. Wheeler, 72, of Underwood Avenue, Plattsburgh, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center. Calling hours will be Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh, A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at a time to be announced at Our Lady of Victory Church. Burial will be in the Binghamville Cemetery in Fletcher, Vt. |
