Beatrice M. Gilmet

REDFORD — Beatrice M. Gilmet, 77, died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

Born in Redford on Dec. 13, 1925, she was the daughter of Ernest and Vada (Devins) Fournier.

Bea worked at many local restaurants as a waitress before going to work at Diamond International in 1963 and retiring in 1988. She enjoyed her family, flower gardening, golf and the Friday night card game.

She was a member of the Assumption of Mary Church.

Survivors include her husband of 56 1/2 years, Francis T. Gilmet, whom she married on July 3, 1946; three sons, Thomas Gilmet and his wife, Sue, of Chazy Lake, Robert Gilmet and his companion, Virginia Stater of Bloomingdale, and Randy Gilmet of Redford; three daughters, Judy Gilmet of Redford, Cindy Gilmet of Plattsburgh and her companion, Chrysolite Grant, and Mary Lou and Alan Covert of Saranac; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Blanche and Leo Collins, Jennette and Adlor Pellerin, and Jean Miner, all of Redford, and Monica and Paul Wainwright of Rochester; one brother, Joseph Fournia of Redford; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Four sisters, Agnes Turner, Vada Ano, Evelyn Miner and Anna Mae Peck, died before her.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the O’Neill-Redden-Drown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Assumption of Mary Church in Redford. Burial will be in the parish cemetery in the spring. Friends and family who wish may have Masses said in her memory.

Duane C. "Peanut" Lawrence

Vermontville — Duane C. "Peanut" Lawrence, 61, of Swinyer Rd., Vermontville, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, at his home.

He was born in Saranac Lake on Jan. 20, 1942, the son of Earl and Myrtle (Skeels) Lawrence.

Mr. Lawrence had been a resident of the area for many years.

He loved to ski and was a member of the ski patrol at Whiteface Mountain. He was also involved in setting the pole lines for Paleface Ski Area in Wilmington. He later worked construction in the area and was hired as a carpenter to work on Sardi's Restaurant in New York City. During the 1980 Winter Olympics he drove a shuttle bus and later worked for Lake Placid Sightseeing as a bus driver, tour guide and office manager along with Rudy Scheller. He retired in 1995 for health reasons.

Duane was a member of the Chesterfield Fish and Game Club and the Sons of the American Legion.

He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed camping and boating. He also loved playing cards, shuffle board, pool and dominos. He especially loved his grandchildren and his german shepard Celine.

He is survived by his wife, the former Miriam Poissant; three daughters, Phyllis Gaffney and her husband James of Lake Placid, Alice Cave and her husband Richard of Jay, N.Y., and Lee Ann Lawrence of Saranac Lake; two step daughters, Victoria Parish and her husband Kenneth of Creuve, Va., and Erin Bell of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; one step son, Reginald Poissant of Columbus, Ga.; 19 grandchildren; one sister, Grace Bushey and her husband George of AuSable Forks, N.Y.; two brothers, Earl Lawrence and his wife Cathy of Peru, N.Y., and Almon Lawrence and his wife Virginia of AuSable Forks, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Lawrence in 1985; his mother, Myrtle Skeels Lawrence in 2002; and his sister, Alice Gallo in 1970.

Visitation will be at Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be held Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Father Alan Macnab vicar of St. James Episcopal Church in Ausable Forks, officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in Vermontville in May.

Friends wishing to remember Mr. Lawrence may make memorial contributions to St. Paul's Food Pantry in care of the funeral home.

Susan Hubbell Wohlers

Chazy/Bluffton, S.C. — Susan Hubbell Wohlers, 75, of Chazy, N.Y., and Bluffton, S.C., died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, at her Chazy home.

She was born in New York City, the daughter of George Loring and Sophia (Young) Hubbell.

Susan is the beloved wife of the late Donald F. Wohlers; Loving mother if Charles H. Wohlers of Charlotte, N.C., Sally W. Dahlgren and husband Scott C. Dahlgren of Boxford, Mass., Barbara W. Kleinert and husband Robert P. Kleinert of Basking Ridge, N.J. and Donald F. Wohlers Jr. Of Chazy, N.Y.

She is survived by 5 grandsons; a brother, George L. Hubbell III of Plattsburgh; and two sisters, Elizabeth H. Parsons of Spokane, Wash., and Barbara H. Field of Lake Placid, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Wohlers graduated from Centenary College in 1949 and Parsons School of Design.

A memorial service is planned for the summer.

Donations in her memory may be made to Hospice of the North Country, 13 Guy Way, Plattsburgh, NY 12901.

Arthur H. Montgomery, 79, of Fort Covington, N.Y., and most recently of the Alice Hyde Nursing Home in Malone, N.Y., and the Highland Nursing Home in Massena, N.Y., died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, at the Massena Memorial Hospital in Massena, N.Y.

He was born in Altona, N.Y., Aug. 2, 1923, the son of the late Benjamin and Ida (Johnson) Montgomery.

Calling hours will be Thursday morning from 9 to 10:45 a.m. at the Cappiello-McKenzie and Cosgrove Funeral Home in Fort Covington. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Fort Covington, with the Rev. Kris Lauzon officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Bombay, N.Y., in the spring.

Theodore E. Annis, 66, of Calkins Road, Peru, died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, at the Elizabethtown Community Hospital.

He was born on Nov. 11, 1936, in Peru, N.Y., the son of Edmund and Maryetta (Rock) Annis.

Arrangements are incomplete at this time with the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

ELINOR A. MURTAGH, 95, of Sawyer Avenue, Malone, N.Y., died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, at the Alice Hyde Medical Center following a short illness.

She was born Nov. 23, 1907, in Malone, N.Y., the daughter of George and Agnes (Ahem) Marceau.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the St. Mary Murphy Funeral Home chapel. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003, at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church with Rev. Raymond Moreau officiating. Spring burial will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Lake Titus Road, Malone, N.Y. Funeral arrangements are through St. Mary-Murphy Funeral Home, Inc.
