Published: 02/17/03Helen G. MontgomeryPERU — Helen G. Montgomery, 65, of Stewarts Way, Peru, passed away Friday, Feb. 14, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh after a lengthy illness. She was born Dec. 10, 1937, in Kingston, the daughter of Clarence and Gertrude "Wood" Gifford. She attended and graduated from Keene Central School and graduated from OLVA Secretarial School in Plattsburgh as a legal secretary and was employed for several years for Thomas Cantwell of Saranac Lake. She was employed at Wassaic Developmental Center as a mental hygiene therapist aide II, where she later retired from. Survivors are one son, H. Thomas Montgomery of Peru; two daughters, Corrina Montgomery of Peru and and Christina Slater of Hudson; two sisters, Eunice Martin of Keeseville and Betty Miron of Nauhma, Mich.; three grandchildren, Brianne Montgomery of Peru, Katie Slater and Justin Slater of Hudson; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother and sister-in-law, Clarence and Esther Gifford, and two brothers-in-law, Glen Martin and Romeo Miron. There will be no calling hours or services at this time. Burial will be at a later date in Norton Cemetery in Keene. Memorials to her may be made to the American Diabetes Association. Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral home in AuSable Forks is in charge of arrangements. Beatrice M. GilmetREDFORD — Beatrice M. Gilmet, 77, died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. born in Redford on Dec. 13, 1925, she was the daughter of Ernest and Vada (Devins) Fournier. Bea worked at many local restaurants as a waitress before going to work at Diamond International in 1963 and retiring in 1988. She enjoyed her family, flower gardening, golf and the Friday night card game. She was a member of the Assumption of Mary Church. Survivors include her husband of 56 1/2 years, Francis T. Gilmet, whom she married on July 3, 1946; three sons, Thomas Gilmet and his wife, Sue, of Chazy Lake, Robert Gilmet and his companion, Virginia Stater of Bloomingdale, and Randy Gilmet of Redford; three daughters, Judy Gilmet of Redford and her companion, John Tedford, Cindy Gilmet of Plattsburgh and her companion, Chrysolite Grant, and Mary Lou and Alan Covert of Saranac; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Blanche and Leo Collins, Jennette and Adlor Pellerin, and Jean Miner, all of Redford, and Monica and Paul Wainwright of Rochester; one brother, Joseph Fournia of Redford; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Four sisters, Agnes Turner, Vada Ano, Evelyn Miner and Anna Mae Peck, died before her. Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the O’Neill-Redden-Drown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Assumption of Mary Church in Redford. Burial will be in the parish cemetery in the spring. Friends and family who wish may have Masses said in her memory. Brooke C. TrombleyELLENBURG CENTER — Brooke C. Trombley, 4, died Friday, Feb. 14, 2003, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vt. Born in Plattsburgh on Nov. 28, 1998, she was the daughter of David and Tracie (Casselman) Trombley. On Valentine’s Day 1999, a Sweetheart Jamboree was held to mend Brooke’s broken heart. Four years later on Valentine’s Day she passed away but not because of her mended heart. Survivors include her parents, David and Tracie Trombley of Ellenburg Center; her sister, Lauren Bell, also of Ellenburg Center; her maternal grandmother, Lynn Casselman of Churubusco and her companion, Donald Brady; maternal grandfather, Glenn Casselman of Fort Covington; maternal great-grandmother, Gladys Fetter of Cornwall Island; maternal great-great-grandmother, Anna Thompson of Cornwall Island; paternal grandfather and grandmother, J.R. and Linda Trombley of Ellenburg Center; paternal great-grandfather, Richard Trombley of Ellenburg; paternal great- grandfather and grandmother, Lawrence and Irene Trombley of Ellenburg Center; an uncle, Chad Trombley and his companion, Billie Jo LaPoint, and their two children, Abbigail and Chelsea; two aunts, Trudey Casselman and her companion, Cory LaRock, and their children, Kody, Jesse and Megan, and Tarah Casselman. Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003, at the E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Ellenburg Depot. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday from St. Edmund’s Church in Ellenburg. Burial will follow in Whispering Maples Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Ellenburg Depot. Memorial donations may be made to Pyramids Pediatric Intervention Services. Charles E. DevoeST. REGIS FALLS — Charles E. DeVoe, 86, of 88 South River Road, died Sunday morning, Feb. 16, 2003, at his home while under the loving care of his family and High Peaks Hospice. Born in Buffalo, N.Y., March 10, 1916, he was the son of the late Enos S. and Caroline Haentges DeVoe. He graduated from high school in Buffalo. He served in the United States Air Force as a fighter pilot from 1943 until he was shot down in 1944. He was honorably discharged. On Oct. 26, 1946, he was united in marriage to the former Marion L. Stewart in Troy. She survives. Mr. DeVoe served with the Buffalo Police Department for more than 30 years. He retired as a captain in 1973. He was a member of the Buffalo Masonic Lodge and was a Shriner. He was a life member of the Buffalo American Legion and a member of the Buffalo D.A.V. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, skiing, carpentry, square dancing, water skiing and bowling in the Senior Citizens Bowling League in Malone. Along with his wife, Marion, he is survived by three daughters, Christine E. DeVoe of St. Regis Falls, Janice L. Colvin of West Chazy, and Melody G. DeVoe of Camden, Del.; one adopted daughter, Kim Kuhle of Three Bridges, N.J.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by one daughter, Lynne C. Wilson, and six sisters, Laura Busch, Florence McGinty, Mary Gates, Edith Sauerwein, Clara Westlake and Emma Book. There are no calling hours. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Malone, with the Rev. Thomas Gwinn officiating. Burial will be in the spring in Arlington National Cemetery at a time to be announced. Donations may be made in his memory to either High Peaks Hospice in Saranac Lake or to the Shriner’s Hospital in Erie, Pa. Arrangements are through the Anderson Funeral Home in St. Regis Falls. Elizabeth Anne Van HoesenTICONDEROGA — Elizabeth Anne Van Hoesen, 62, of Lake George Avenue, passed away Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, at her home. Born in Albany, April 6, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Ivan and Edith (Carpenter) Hayne. Mrs. Van Hoesen was a graduate of Bethlehem Central School and Mildred Elley Business School of Albany. She had been a resident of Ticonderoga since 1977. After moving to Ticonderoga in 1977, she continued her career as a medical secretary with the Adirondack Mountain Family Practice and then the Hudson Headwaters Health Network, where she has been employed for more than 20 years. For the past 10 years, she was the office manager for the Practice. Mrs. Van Hoesen was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Cross of Ticonderoga. Her favorite pastime was taking care of her family. Survivors include her husband of 39 years, Carl Van Hoesen; three daughters and sons-in-law, Anne and Leonard Charboneau of Ticonderoga, Cindy and Eric Grinnell of Ticonderoga, and Judy and Kurt Van Heusen of Livonia; one grandson, Jack Grinnell of Ticonderoga; and her aunt, Dorothy Carpenter of Ticonderoga. Relatives and friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home, 11 Algonkin St., Ticonderoga. A Requiem Eucharistic Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Episcopal Church of the Cross of Ticonderoga. The Rev. Marjorie J. Floor, rector, will officiate. Interment will take place in the spring. ILA G. GWIN, 88, of Ogdensburg, died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, at Massena Memorial Hospital. She was born Jan. 13, 1915, the daughter of William D. and Anna (Lochren) Gwin. Calling hours will be Tuesday afternoon and evening at the Phillips Memorial Home in Massena. A Mass of Resurrection will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Church of the Sacred Heart with the Rev. Sean Murray presiding. Interment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery in Ogdensburg. Memorial contributions may be made to the Massena Humane Society or the Thousand Island Girl Scouts Council, 445 Factory St., Watertown, NY 13601. MARGARET P. PAOLUCCI, 65, of 922 Rand Hill Road, died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, at her home. She was born in Utica, N.Y., on Dec. 14, 1937, the daughter of Carl and Lenora (MacConnell) Bovard. There will be no calling hours or funeral service. The R.W. Walker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Donations, in her memory, may be given to the Cancer Society. |
