Published: 02/16/03Fordyce I. CarlsonEllenburg Center — Fordyce "Fordy" Carlson, 92, died Friday, Feb. 14, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in Wayne, N.Y., on Dec. 27, 1910, the son of Floyd and Xina (Thomas) Carlson. A veteran of World War II, he was a member of Post 1623, American Legion. He owned and operated the Ellenburg Oil Company for 38 years, retiring in 1987. Fordy was also a former fire commissioner for the Ellenburg Center Fire Department, served on the Ellenburg Central School Board for 14 years and was a charter member of the Ellenburg Kiwanis Club. He was in charge of Riverside Cemetery in Ellenburg Center for 35 years. Survivors include his wife, the former Anna Osterderg, whom he married in 1956; three daughters, Ingrid Patterson of Omaha, Neb., Martha Chase of Standish and Jo Anna Bein of Chazy Lake; and a brother, Emory Carlson of Stuart, Fla. A son, Aaron Carlson; and a brother, C. Thurston Carlson, died before him. Calling hours will be Monday, Feb. 17th, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Ellenburg Depot, followed by a funeral service at 3 p.m. officiated by Rev. Al Johnson. Burial will be in the spring in Riverside Cemetery in Ellenburg Center. Memorial donations may be made in his memory to Ellenburg Center Fire and Rescue Squad. Sarah E. "Eve" LaVarnwayCadyville — Sarah E. "Eve" LaVarnway, 88, formerly of Rt. 3 Cadyville, passed away Friday, Feb. 14, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center. She was born in Jay, N.Y., on Oct. 23, 1914, the daughter of Walter and Cora (Richards) Straight. Sarah was a graduate of the Champlain Valley School of Nursing. She had been a resident of the Begor Home on the Military Turnpike since 1998. Sarah enjoyed crocheting, knitting and cooking. She was a member of St. James Minor Church in Cadyville. Sarah was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Cora Straight; her husband Harry; her sisters, Lilla Wheeler and Mary Lou McLean; and a brother, William Straight, who was killed in action during World War II. She is survived by her daughter, Frances Smart and her husband Maynard of Keeseville; a brother, Robert Straight and his wife Freda of Jay; her twin granddaughters, Gina Bond and her husband Timothy of Morrisonville and Jacqueline Briggs and her fiancé Pete Mitchell of Cadyville; her great - grand-children, Chelsey, Connor and Cydney Jacqueline Bond of Morrisonville and Dalton Mitchell of Cadyville; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, Park Row, Cadyville. A Mass of Christian burial will be Monday at 10 a.m. at St. James Minor Church with the Rev. Msgr. Lawrence Deno, pastor, as celebrant. Interment will be at a later date in the parish cemetery. Friends wishing may have Masses said in her memory. Brooke Trombley, 4, of Ellenburg Center, died Friday, Feb. 14, 2003, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vt. Calling hours will be on Tuesday, Feb. 18th, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and are with the E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Ellenburg Depot. |
