Published: 02/13/03Helen "Nellie" BrooksPORT HENRY — Helen "Nellie" Brooks, 102, of Port Henry, died Monday, Feb. 10, 2003, at Horace Nye Nursing Home in Elizabethtown. She was born June 23, 1900, in Elizabethtown, to Thomas and Mary Jane (Cooney) Clark. Nellie married Francis (Leo) Brooks on June 25, 1929, and settled in Port Henry, where she lived until age 99. Nellie was a member of The Catholic Daughters, Court Patricia 464 and was a religion teacher for St. Patrick's Church in Port Henry for many years. Nellie credited her longevity to "clean living". Her daughter, Blanche Baker, of Moriah; her daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Louis Abare of Ticonderoga; 17 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren survive her. Nellie was predeceased by her husband, Leo; her daughter and son-in-law, Lorraine and Albert Scorsome; her son-in-law, William Baker; her grandson, William Baker; her mother and father; and two siblings. There will be no calling hours. Nellie donated her body to science. A memorial service will follow at a later date. Aurelia (Arlea) LongtinRouses Point — Aurelia (Arlea) Longtin, 86, formerly of Mooers, passed away on Feb. 11, 2003. She was born in Mooers, N.Y., on Feb. 4,1917, the daughter of Henry and Edith (Wood) LeClaire. Arlea attended school in Mooers, N.Y. She worked as a seamstress for more than 30 years. She was a previous member of the Catholic Daughters and the Mooers Volunteer Fire Department Women's Auxiliary. She was predeceased by her husband, Albert; one son, Anthony (Tony); and two brothers, Paul and David LeClaire. She is survived by a son, Dennis Longtin and his wife Gale of Rouses Point; a daughter, Claire Bowman and her husband Curt of Dannemora; and a daughter-in-law, Donna Longtin of Dannemora. Also, one brother, Louis LeClaire and his wife Anita of Plattsburgh; four grandchildren, Michael Longtin, Travis Longtin, Jamie Bowman and Joe Bowman; and two great-grandchildren, Joshua Longtin and Angela Bowman. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday from St. Patrick's Church in Rouses Point. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Mooers in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the North Country or the Alzheimer's Association. The E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Champlain is in charge of arrangements. Edward N. Reyome, 81, of Church Street, Saranac Lake, died Monday, Feb. 10, 2003, at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. He was born in Malone, N.Y., on March 13, 1921, the son of Ulysses and Genevieve (Peete) Reyome. Visitation will be at Fortune - Keough Funeral Home, Inc. on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A veterans service will be held at 7:45 p.m. followed by an Elks service at 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held Feb. 14, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Thomas Kornmeyer officiating. Burial will be at St. John's Cemetery, Lake Clear in May. |
