Ross R. Henry

Canton, NY — Ross R. Henry, 69, of Canton, N.Y., and a winter resident of Palmetto, Fla., died Friday, Jan. 25, 2003, in Manatee Memorial Hospital.

Memorial services were held at Holy Cross Catholic Church Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, with the Rev. Christopher Senk officiating. Burial will be with full military honors in Canton in May.

Born in Ogdensburg, N.Y., Mr. Henry was a winter resident of Manatee County from Canton since 1990.

He worked for St. Lawrence County, operated an independent feed store in Plattsburgh, N.Y., and retired from J.W. Harrold Educational Center after 22 years as a trade school teacher.

He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. Ross was a member of Plattsburgh Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 125 and was State Commander from 1988 to 1989 of the New York Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was also a member of the Marine Corps League in Plattsburgh. He was a past president and a trustee of the Veterans of Foreign Wars National Children's Home in Eaton Rapids, Mich.

Survivors include his wife Teresa; a sister, Dorothy MacDonald of Morley, N.Y.; and two brothers, Arthur of Massena, N.Y., and Elwood of Madrid, N.Y.

Memorial contributions may be made to National Veterans of Foreign Wars Home for Children, 3573 Waverly Road, South Eaton Rapids, Michigan 48827.

Joan M. Buskey

MORRISONVILLE — Joan M. Buskey, 47, of Pitcher Way, Morrisonville, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at her home.

She was born in Plattsburgh on Nov. 28, 1955, the daughter of Melvin and Emma (Jarvis) Boyd.

Joan married James Buskey, Nov. 15, 1975, at Sacred Heart Church in Chazy.

Survivors include her husband, James of Morrisonville; three sons, James Buskey and Brandy Burnette of Morrisonville, John Buskey and Amy Poquette of Plattsburgh, Jerrad Buskey of Morrisonville; one daughter, Joline Buskey of Beekmantown; six brothers, Robert and Diane Boyd of Plattsburgh, Gary Boyd of Plattsburgh, Rachael and Mildred Boyd of Peru, Wilfred Boyd of Peru, Bruce Boyd of Plattsburgh; two sisters, Joyce and Gerald Buskey of Altona and Barbara and Donnie Ross of Dannemora; a granddaughter, Shaelyn Webb; two grandsons, Zackery and Adam Buskey; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; three brothers, Richard, John and Douglas Boyd; one sister, Jacqueline; and one grandson, Colyn Buskey.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Alexander's Church in Morrisonville.

Donations may be made to the family.

Harold T. Lieberthal

Plattsburgh — Harold T. Lieberthal, 79, of Victoria House, Court St., Plattsburgh, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital, peacefully, surrounded by his family.

Builder and long-time proprietor of Valcour Lodge, with his wife, the former Tarley Keith, he was most proud of his daughters, Amy Lieberthal and Sarah McGee and son-in-law Gerard McGee. He was totally devoted to his grandchildren, Joshua Hicks and Alana Parsons.

Harold was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Nov. 18, 1923.

He first came to Valcour as a camper, along with his brother, Jerome "Buddy" Lieberthal. Eventually, their parents, Hugo and Frieda Lieberthal, bought the property and developed it into a summer resort. After their father's death, the brothers ran it as a boy's basketball camp under the direction of Dolph Shayes. In its later years, Valcour Lodge was a highly regarded restaurant and summer vacation spot on the lakeshore. Harold took a keen interest in the historical history of the place and worked to preserve it.

It was his great pleasure to socialize with patrons at his restaurant and he could often be found riding his tractor on the grounds, accompanied by his beloved dog.

He was a veteran of World War II and in the 1950's and 1960's, was involved in projects including the development of Champlain Park and the North Country Shopping Center.

Harold is survived by his dear sister, Hortense Zera; loving nieces, Lanie Zera and Barbara Abramson.

The family expresses enormous gratitude to Patty Fuller of Victoria Home for the dedicated care she gave him in his last years.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday morning, Feb. 4, 2003, at 10 a.m. from Temple Beth Israel in Plattsburgh. Burial will be on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003, at 1 p.m. in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Glendale, N.Y.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society or to a charity of one’s choice.

Lawrence Elwin Bylow

SOUTH BARRE — Lawrence Elwin Bylow, 78, of 660 South Barre Road, passed away Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at his home surrounded by his family, following a brief illness.

Born in Barre on Aug. 26,1929, he was the son of Vivian and Merle (Colombe) Bylow.

He attended Spaulding High School. He served in the military from 1946 until 1950. During this period he spent a year and a half in Japan.

On Dec. 10, 1948, he married Marie Bigras in Barre. Marie passed away on July 26, 1988.

After serving his country he returned to Barre, where he began his employment for the Barre City Fire Department. He later was employed in the granite industry where he worked for Nativi and Sons in administration and sales. He also served as treasurer of the Granite Association for several years. His latest employment was that as a manager for Schwan’s food distributing, where he retired.

On Sept. 28, 1991, he married Alice Couture of Barre in St. Augustine’s Church in Montpelier.

He was a member of St. Monica Church and the Barre Elks Lodge 1595.

Larry was an avid reader who enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of Barre; three sons, Gary Bylow of Cape Porpoise, Maine, Brent Bylow of Barre and Gary Couture of Longmont Colo.; a daughter, Michelle Couture-Forgues of Quechee, Vt.; three grandchildren, Christopher and Katie Bylow of Barre, their mother Sylvie Bylow, and Austin Furgues of Quechee, Vt.; one sister, Carol Martel of Barre; one brother, Arthur Bylow of Rouses Point, N.Y.; several nephews and nieces.

Larry is predeceased by his parents.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Monica Church in Barre. Burial will follow at Hope Cemetery.

According to Larry’s wishes there will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to St. Monica Capital Campaign, 79 Summer Street, Barre, VT 05641.

Arrangements are under the direction of Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home, 58 Summer Street, Barre.

Sidney Gordon

Plattsburgh — Sidney Gordon, 87, was bom in New York City on Nov. 4, 1915, the son of Rose and Joseph Guttenplan.

Sidney was happily married to Sarah Feldman Gordon for 64 years.

Sidney was proud of his children, Betty-Carol Singer of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Joseph Gordon of East Greenbush, N.Y. Sidney also adored his grandchildren, Lisa Gordon of Fairfax, Va., Laurie Ann Gordon of East Greenbush, N.Y., Jeffrey Singer of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Stephen Singer of Huntington Beach, Calif.

Sidney worked in the retail business in Plattsburgh for many years and he was a member of B'Nai Brith. He and Sarah spent the winter months in Clearwater, Fla., where he passed away on Jan. 30, 2003.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at 1 p.m. Temple Beth Israel in Plattsburgh. Burial will follow in Temple Beth Israel Cemetery in Plattsburgh. Arrangements with Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

Norman Merrill Roulston, 70, of Merrill, died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, in Fairfax Vt.

Arrangements are incomplete through the Chateaugay Funeral Home and will be announced at a later date.

William H. Walker, 87, of the Calkins Road, Peru, died, Monday, Feb. 03, 2003, at the Rome Memorial Hospital in Rome, N.Y.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Hamilton Funeral Home in Keeseville.

Joseph Walter Douglas Jr., 88, formerly of Roosevelt Terrace, died, Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003 at Clifton House Nursing Home in New Haven, Conn.

A graveside service will be held later in the year at St. Peter's Cemetery in Plattsburgh.
