Published: 02/01/03Dr. Joseph H. Summerell Jr.Plattsburgh — Dr. Joseph H. Summerell Jr., 81, of 176 Rugar St., died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at his home. He was born in Newport News, Va., on March 31, 1921, the son of Joseph H. and Marianna (Cosby) Summerell Sr. Dr. Summerell was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran and served on a destroyer, the USS Lardner, in the Pacific Theatre. He graduated from The College of William and Mary with an undergraduate degree in English in 1947. Dr. Summerell then received his masters and doctorate degrees in English literature from Columbia University in 1959. He taught in the English departments at Syracuse University, Wayne State University, the University of Rochester and then moved to Plattsburgh and taught in the English department at Plattsburgh State University, starting in 1959 and retiring in 1986 as Professor of Language and Literature. Survivors include his former wife, Sally Summerell of Plattsburgh; one son, Charles Summerell and his wife Aeky of Sacramento, Calif.; one daughter, Virginia Summerell and her husband Volker Rathke of San Francisco, Calif.; one brother, J.V. C. "Bing" Summerell and his wife Roberta of Crestview Hills, Ky.; one grandson, Andrew Cosby Summerell of Sacramento, Calif.; and one niece and one nephew. There will be no public calling hours or funeral services. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Newport News, Va. Donations in his memory may be made to the Adirondack Humane Society or the Memorial Fund at the College of William and Mary, P.O. Box 8795, Williamsburg, VA 23187-8795. The R.W. Walker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Marian L. BaggsPeru — Marian L. Baggs, 77, of Jabez Allen Road, Peru, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. She was born in Peru on March 4, 1925, the daughter of Harold and Victoria (Baggs) Parsons. Marian graduated from Keeseville High School in 1943; she married Ralph K. Baggs on April 9,1944, at the Baptist Church on Clinton Street in Keeseville. She was employed with the State Park and Recreation Dept. at both AuSable Point and Macomb State Parks. She worked in food service at Peru Central School and was last employed with the Ladies Auxiliary at CVPH Medical Center, where she managed the coffee shop. Marian and Ralph lived and operated a dairy farm on the Lake Shore Road in Peru for many years. She was an avid gardener and loved her many flower beds. Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Ralph K. Baggs; two sons and daughters-in-law, Karl R. and Gail Baggs and William H. and Kathy Baggs of Peru; three grandchildren, Richard Baggs of Peru, Michelle and her husband Patrick Cogan of Natick, Mass., and Jason Baggs of Peru; one brother, Robert Parsons and significant other Doris Winter of Berlin, Vt.; two sisters-in-law, Lucille Parsons of Peru and Faye Parsons of Middlesex, Vt.; and several nieces and nephews. Her parents and a brother, John Parsons, predeceased her. Calling hours will be held Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, from the funeral home in Peru with the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Parker officiating. Burial will be in the spring in Evergreen Cemetery in Keeseville. Donations in her memory may be made to the Peru Rescue Squad. Brenda Karleen Maynard/LodiniHarriman, N.Y. — Brenda Karleen Maynard/Lodini, 44, formerly of Dannemora, N.Y., peacefully left this earth and entered into The Kingdom of Heaven on Jan. 30, 2003. She was born in Johnson City, N.Y., on May 29, 1958, the eldest of three children of Paul Charles and Margaret Pauline (Young) Bollen. Brenda graduated from Union-Endicott High School in 1976, attended Broome Community College (1976-1978) and later transferred to Buffalo State University College in Buffalo, N.Y. While enrolled at Buffalo State College, she met and later married H. Philip Maynard Jr. on June 20, 1981, at St. John The Baptist Church in Plattsburgh, N.Y. Their 17 year union resulted in four children. Brenda and Phil parted in December 1998. Brenda relocated to Harriman, N.Y., and married Philip Ambrose Lodini Jr. on July 10, 1999, in Cooperstown, N.Y.; their marriage produced one child. Brenda was a devoted mother who enjoyed cooking and sewing. She later entered the work force, employed at Plattsburgh Animal Hospital for Dr. Thomas J. Brown as a receptionist in Plattsburgh, N.Y. Brenda was a member of the Dannemora Volunteer Fire Department Womens Auxiliary and St. John’s Athletic Association for many years. Survivors include her husband, Philip Ambrose Lodini Jr. and their one daughter, Emily Ann Lodini, of Harriman, N.Y.; her former husband, H. Philip Maynard Jr. of Dannemora, N.Y., and their four children; one daughter, Melissa Marie Maynard and fiancé Jason Redmond of Saranac, N.Y.; three sons, Henry Philip Maynard III of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Matthew Michael Maynard and Eric Andrew Maynard of Dannemora, N.Y.; her parents, Paul Charles and Margaret Pauline Bollen of Newark Valley, N.Y.; one sister, Paula Marie Bollen of Binghamton, N.Y.; one brother and sister-in-law, Curtis Bradford and Katherine Bollen of Canadaguia, N.Y.; one nephew, Michael Bradford Bollen and one niece, Jennifer Jean Bollen, both of Canadaguia, N.Y.; and one granddaughter, Grace Elizabeth Redmond of Saranac, N.Y. Calling hours were held on Jan 31, 2003, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush Funeral Home, 117 Maple Avenue, Monroe, N.Y. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Feb. 1, 2003, at 9:45 a.m. at Saint Anastasia Shrine Church, 21 North Main St., Route 17, Harriman, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Brenda’s memory to Orange County Hospice and Cancer Care. Hughes Yves LamarcheKeeseville — Hughes Yves Lamarche, 57, passed away unexpectedly into the arms of the Lord on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003. He was born on June 17, 1945, in Alfred, Ontario, Canada, the son of Rosario and Laurette Lamarche. Hughes was a former resident of Queensbury, where he was a member of the Bay Road Presbyterian Church. He attended the Church of the Nazarene in Keeseville and was an active member of Promise Keepers. Hughes was employed by Grand Union for over 26 years. He enjoyed boating, golfing, carpentry and giving to others. Hughes was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. He is predeceased by his parents. Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Sharron (Thornton) Lamarche of Keeseville: his daughters, Monique Agans and her husband Todd of Queenbury and Guylaine Preston of Glens Falls; his grandchildren, Brendan Hughes Agans and Garrett Thomas Agans of Queensbury; his brothers, Rejean Lamarche and his wife Sylviane, Serge Lamarche and his wife Anita, Richard Lamarche and his wife Judy, Denis Lamarche and his wife Aline and Daniel and his wife Francine, all of Ontario, Canada; his sisters, Pierrette Picioccio and her husband Nick of Lake Luzerne and Mirielle DuBois and her husband Claude of Ontario, Canada; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at Bay Road Presbyterian Church, 1167 Bay Road, Queensbury, with Rev. David Drake and Rev. Robert Duncan officiating. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Family and friends are invited and may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at Regan & Denny Funeral Home, 53 Quaker Road, Queensbury. Blanche L. CrowningshieldPort Kent — Blanche L. Crowningshield, 79, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at the Horace Nye Nursing Home in Elizabethtown, N.Y. She was born in Willsboro on Thursday, April 5, 1923, the daughter of Charles and Sadie (Murray) Stranahan. She was an avid reader. Survivors include Charles and Susan Crowningshield of Port Kent and Carlton and Eileen Crowningshield of St. Petersburg, Fla.; three grandchildren, Angela and her husband Dean Parmentier, Carlton Jr. and Brian; and one great - granddaughter, Kalee Parmentier, all of Florida; one brother and three sisters-in-law, Ashley and Susan of Keeseville, Gertrude of Keeseville and Eleanor of Georgia; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Ernest who died Nov. 5, 1984. They were married April 29, 1941. She was also predeceased by three brothers, George of Keeseville, Willard of Georgia and Albert of Keeseville. A service will be held Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at the Horace Nye Nursing Home in Elizabethtown at 10:15 a.m. and a memorial service Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003, at 11 a.m. from the United Methodist Church in Keeseville, N.Y. Donations may be made to the Keeseville United Methodist Church Thrift Shop Fund or The Horace Nye Nursing Home Activities Department in Elizabethtown, N.Y. Dorothy StanworthPlattsburgh — Mrs. Dorothy Stanworth, 82, of Bushey Blvd., died Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at the Evergreen Valley Nursing Home in Plattsburgh with her three loving daughters by her side. She was born in Chazy on Nov. 13, 1920, daughter of the late Albert and Susan (Luchia) Rock. "MY MOTHER, MY FRIEND, FOREVER" She is survived by three daughters, Ms. Lena Jubert Dupree of Plattsburgh, Ms. Loretta Jubert Bulriss of Plattsburgh and Ms. Marie Jubert Rock of Plattsburgh; three sisters, Mrs. Evelyn Larow of Champlain, Mrs. Helen Morse of Evergreen Valley Nursing Home and Mrs. Pauline Castine of Massachusetts; 11 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her first husband, Archie Jubert; her second husband, Charles Stanworth; and two sisters, Bernice Fredette and Lena Rabideau. Calling hours will be Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. in the Brown Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be later in the year in St. Peter's Cemetery in Plattsburgh. Michael John Monz Sr., 73, formerly of Pine Street, Plattsburgh, died on Jan. 29, 2003, at the Little Falls Hospital, Little Falls, N.Y. Mr. Monz was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Jan. 30, 1929, a son of the late Henry and Erna (Petermann) Monz. Funeral services will be held at the Autenrith Funeral Home, Newport, N.Y., on Feb. 1st, at 1 p.m. with Rev. Leo F. Potvin, pastor of St. John's Church, Newport, officiating. Spring burial will take place in St. John's Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral from noon until 1 p.m. Evelyn P. Irving, 86, of Water Street, Elizabethtown, died Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at the Elizabethtown Community Hospital. She was born June 29, 1916, in Windber, Pa., the daughter of Emery and Ethel (Buyansky) Pankovitz. No calling hours will be held. A funeral Mass will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at St. Elizabeth's in Elizabethtown. Arrangements are with W.M. Marvins Sons Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. Angela J. Mason, 53, of the Union Road, Peru, passed away Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center. She was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., on Oct. 20, 1949, the daughter of Albert and Margaret (Durrant) Mason. At Angela's request, there will be no calling hours or funeral services.
