Published: 01/31/03Dennis Gene HaywoodPLATTSBURGH — Dennis Gene Haywood, 54, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, at the Albany Medical Center. He was born in Concord, N.H., on Dec. 17, 1948, the son of Eugene E. and Georgette (Frowley) Haywood. Mr. Haywood was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. After eight years of service, he received an honorable discharge and moved back to Concord, N.H., where he worked as a binder at Rumford Press for many years. He moved to New York in 1981, where he worked as a private mechanic until he became disabled in 1989. His hobbies and interests included auto repair, gardening, taking pictures of his home and family, oldies music and collecting movies. He is survived by his loving daughters, Darcie Joyce Haywood-Shepard of Claremont, N.H., Denyse Gene Haywood of Plattsburgh and Sherri Elisabeth Pallik of Plattsburgh; four grandchildren, Brittany and Morgan Shepard of Claremont, N.H., Ashlyn Drollette of Plattsburgh and Jaden Maldonado of Plattsburgh; three brothers, Donald Haywood of Concord, N.H., James Haywood of Warner, N.H., and Edward Hill of Warner, N.H.; two sisters, Gail Powell of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Jeanie Beach of Warner, N.H.; and his mother, Georgette (Frowley) Hill of Warner, N.H. He was predeceased by his father, Eugene Haywood; and his grandmother, Alice Lassard. Calling hours will be held on Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Ken Davis, pastor of the Dannemora United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Albert R. Stranahan Sr.Keeseville — Albert R. Stranahan Sr., 77, of the Port Douglas Road, Keeseville, died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in Willsboro on Sept. 9, 1925, the son of Charles and Sadie (Murray) Stranahan. He served in the U.S. Army. He was employed at the AuSable Valley Central School for many years. Mr. Stranahan was a communicant of St. John's Church in Keeseville and was a member of the AuSable River Lodge 149 F&AM and the Eugene G. Santor Knights of Columbus Council 4689 in Keeseville. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Albert and Sharron Stranahan Jr. of Peru and John and Michelle Stranahan of Keeseville; one daughter, Sharra Parnaby of Cadyville; his mother-in-law, Sena Cordway of Peru; one brother and sister-in-law, Ashley and Sue Stranahan of Clintonville; one sister, Blanche Crowningshield of Elizabethtown; two sisters-in-law, Eleanor Stranahan of Macon, Ga., and Gertrude Stranahan of Keeseville; one brother-in-law, Lee Cordway of Auburn; six grandsons; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Jean Cordway Stranahan on Nov. 23, 1997; and two brothers, Willard and George Stranahan. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. John's Church in Keeseville with Msgr. Leeward Poissant, pastor, celebrating. Burial will be in the spring in the AuSable Chasm Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Albert and Jean Stranahan to the Henry K. Freedman Renal Center, 91 Plaza Blvd., Plattsburgh, NY 12901. Arrangements are with the Hamilton Funeral Home Inc. in Keeseville. Dr. Colden B. Garland, 68, of Philadelphia, Pa., died on Nov. 1, 2002, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Rochester, N.Y., and buried there near her parents. Funeral arrangements were handled by the Leo M. Bean Funeral Home of Rochester. |
