Mildred M. Maher

Flushing/AuSable Forks — Mildred M. Maher, 93, a Flushing, N.Y., native, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center, Plattsburgh.

She was born in Queens, N.Y., March 24, 1919, the daughter of Frederick and Mary (Bismark) Elsaesser.

She was the beloved wife of the late William F. Maher. Mother of Carol (William) Doyle of AuSable Forks and the late William (Claire) Maher; grandmother of Maryellen (David) Kloss, John (Carolyn) Maher, Kenneth (Kelly) Doyle, Douglas (Tracey) Maher and Thomas (Erin) Doyle; great-grandmother of Justin, Meghan, Lauren and Sean Kloss, John W. Maher, W. Prescott Doyle, Emily Liam and Evan Maher and William, Alexander and Olivia Doyle; sister of the late Edwin Elsaesser and Frederick (Edith) Elsaesser.

Mrs. Maher will be buried with her husband in Flushing, N.Y.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.

Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home, AuSable Forks, is in charge of local arrangements.

Lillian B. Eichen

Ticonderoga — Lillian B. Eichen, 74, of the Baldwin Road in Ticonderoga died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, in the Moses Ludington Hospital following a brief illness.

She was born in Crown Point on Aug. 19,1928, the daughter of Herman and Grace (Huestis) Blowers.

She was employed a number of years first by International Paper and then by the Ticonderoga School District.

She was a former officer of the Ticonderoga Emergency Squad.

Lil is survived by her husband, Lawrence "Dude" Eichen of Ticonderoga; one daughter and son-in-law, Kitty and John Connery of West Chazy; three grandchildren, Brian Connery, Lawrence Eichen and Susan Dennis; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Ralph Blowers of Ticonderoga; and two sisters, Althea Decker of Port Henry and Marion Fraiser of Hague.

She is predeceased by one son, Ernest Eichen..

There will be no calling hours. A memorial and graveside service will be held at the Valley View Cemetery in Ticonderoga in the spring.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorials to the Ticonderoga Emergency Squad, 1 Depot Street, Ticonderoga, NY 12883.

Arrangements are with the Connery & Gunning Funeral Home in Ticonderoga.

Peter P. Kordziel

Mineville — Peter P. Kordziel, 73, of Harmony Lane in Mineville died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vt.

He was born Nov. 23, 1929, in Witherbee, N.Y., the son of Peter Cosmos and Mary Ann (Lesniak) Kordziel.

He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and member of the Mineville VFW Post 5802. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Essex County Leathernecks of Northeastern New York.

Peter is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Peter and Chris Kordziel of Swendesboro, NJ, Stephen and Lorraine Kordziel of Remsen, Daniel and Jennifer Kordziel of Rotterdam; six daughters and sons-in-law, Pauline and Dave Myers of Guilderland, Theresa and Jonnie Batterson of Mineville, Elizabeth and Gary Haseltine of Argyle, Jane and Van Morrison stationed in England, Ann and Ed Parson of Fairbanks, AK., and Mary and Thomas Ida of Mineville; three brothers, Andrew Kordziel of Golden, Colo., John Kordziel of Mineville and Anthony Kordziel of Syracuse; 24 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his wife, Jane Kordziel on Oct. 24, 1996, and his son, Thomas on April 24,1986.

Calling hours will be held Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at Church of All Saints in Mineville. Spring burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Moriah.

Those wishing to remember Pete in a special way may send a donation in his name to the Town of Moriah Ambulance Squad, Moriah, NY 12960.

Helen C. Crossman

Ticonderoga — Helen Crossman died on Jan. 27, 2003, at Interlake’s Nursing Home in Ticonderoga. She was 90 years old.

Helen C. Cole was born to Eunice (Root) and Richard Cole in South Schroon, N.Y., on July 18, 1912.

She began her teaching career in 1931 at the Taylor District in Crown Point in a one room schoolhouse. She then went on to earn her bachelor's degree at Normal School which later became known as State University at Oneonta. She continued with the Crown Point Central School District primarily as a fourth grade teacher until her retirement in 1970.

She was a member of the Congregational church of Crown Point.

She and her husband, Carroll, spent many years traveling throughout the United States and Canada. They were residents of Eustis, Fla., for ten years before her return to Crown Point in 1999.

She is predeceased by an infant daughter, Gail; her husband of 56 years, Carroll; and three brothers, Chester, Clarence and Charles.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Darryl and Marilyn Crossman; a grandson, Ryan Crossman; and a great-granddaughter, Hailey Crossman of Crown Point. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Crown Point Central School for a classroom library book fund in memory of Helen Crossman. The school address is P.0. Box 35, Crown Point, NY 12928.

There will be no service at this time. Interment of her ashes will occur later in the year.

Dawn M. Staley

Saranac — Dawn M. Staley, 58, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at her residence.

She was born in Chazy on April 17, 1944.

Her family was her life and her pastime was bingo.

She is survived by her husband, Richard "Dick" Staley, whom she married Aug. 25, 1962; her mother, Charlotte Patnode of Saranac; four sons and daughters-in-law, David and Ann Staley of Saranac, Derry Mike and Nicki Staley of Morrisonville, Richard and Colleen Staley of Saranac, Darin "D.J." and Bobbie Staley of Dannemora; a brother, Larry Woodward and his companion Penny Dashnaw of Saranac; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Iola and L.J. Mesler of Colon, Mich., and Frances and Steve Baker of AuSable Forks; two brothers-in-law, Dale Chilton of Delanson, N.Y., and Phil Keeler of California; eight grandchildren, Megan, Keith, Nathan, Alex, Nick, Maxwell, Keenan and Paiden; and several nieces and nephews.

Two sisters, Nancy Chilton and Shirley Keeler died before her.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the O'Neill-Redden Drown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday from the funeral home chapel. Interment will be in the Peasleeville Cemetery in the spring.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the North Country.

Arthur Amos Baker Sr.

Plattsburgh — Arthur Amos Baker Sr., 57, of Miller Street, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at CVPH

Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born in Chazy, N.Y., on July 19, 1945, son of Sanford I. and Viola Baker.

Arthur had been employed by Brunell Asphalt for over 25 years.

He was a veteran of Vietnam, serving in the U.S. Army. Arthur was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1466 and American Legion Post 20.

He enjoyed collecting NASCAR memorabilia and was a NASCAR fan.

Arthur is survived by his companion, Bonnie Skelly of Plattsburgh; his mother, Viola Baker of Plattsburgh; three children, Arthur A. Baker Jr. of Canajoharie, N.Y., Donald Baker of Schenectady and Kimberly Baker of Schenectady; two stepdaughters, Dawn and Brian Gainer of Peru and Sheri Skelly and her companion, Edward Pelkey of West Chazy; a brother, Jack and Sharon Baker of Morrisville, N.Y.; three sisters, Sandy and Reginald Bresette of Westville, N.Y., Darlene and Roy Goddeau of Dannemora, N.Y., and Cindy and Douglas LaPorte of Plattsburgh; a sister-in-law, Paula Baker of Plattsburgh; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Mary Ann Ayotte of Plattsburgh; ten grandchildren, Christian, Austin, Nera, Audrianna, Haley, Michael, Brianna, Kenneth, Codey and Kenna; and many nieces and nephews.

Arthur was predeceased by his father, Sanford I. Baker the first and two brothers, Donald Baker and Sanford "Bum" Baker the second.

Calling hours will be Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. Members of the VFW Post 1466 will meet Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held Friday at 12 noon from Brown Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. William Reamer officiating. Burial will be later in the year in St. Peter's Cemetery Plattsburgh.

Donations in his memory may be made to the family.

Raymond Joseph Campbell Sr.

Plattsburgh — Raymond Joseph Campbell Sr., 78, of Plattsburgh, passed away in his home on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003.

He was born in Buffalo, N.Y., on April 22, 1924, the son of John and Elizabeth (Neibatter) Campbell.

Raymond graduated high school from OLV Academy in Lackawana, N.Y. He was employed for 37 years with the New York Telephone Company.

Raymond served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard a naval destroyer in the Atlantic Theater.

He was a member of St. John's Parish, Plattsburgh Elks Lodge 621, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 125, Knights of Columbus Council 255 and the Telephone Pioneers of America.

Raymond was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, Godfather and uncle.

Raymond was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy Margaret (Friedman) Campbell.

Raymond is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Kenneth Rabideau of Penn Yan, N.Y.; a daughter, Donna Campbell and her best friend, John Hart of Plattsburgh; a daughter, Coleen McGivney of Dannemora, N.Y.; a son, Raymond J. Campbell Jr. and his best friend, Virginia Davis of Griswold Conn.; two grandchildren, Timothy Rabideau of Rhode Island and Nicolle Ashline and her husband, Jeffrey of Dannemora, N.Y.; and a great-grandchild, Emily M. Ashline; two sisters, Irene and William Desmond of California and Betty McDonnell of Buffalo; and several nieces and nephews.

Raymond possessed a wonderful sense of humor and a gift of sharing it wherever he went.

There will be no calling hours. Following cremation a Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at 10 a.m. at St. John's Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will be at a later date in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Plattsburgh.

Friends wishing may make donations in his memory to Hospice of the North Country.

Marie Tripp

MORRISONVILLE — Marie Tripp, 44, wife of James Tripp, passed away Jan. 23, 2003, in Carthage, Mo.

She was the daughter of Etta Gregory of Morrisonville and the late David L. Gregory.

Survivors include one daughter and a son, Beth and James Laing of Moriah, N.Y.; one brother, David J. Gregory of Lyon Mountain, N.Y.; six sisters, Catherine Charland, Grandville, N.Y., Deborah Mischenko, Elizabethtown, N.Y., Joanne Bourdieau, Poultney, Vt., Laurel Morrell, South Burlington, Vt., Sandra Crum, Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Tammy Maze, Elmendorf, AFB Anchorage, Alaska. Survivors also include several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held Sunday, Jan. 25, 2003, in Joplin, Miss. A spring burial will take place in Bangor, Maine.

Alice Rochon Brow, 93, a resident of the Alburg, Vt., community for most of her lifetime died early Wednesday morning, Jan. 29, 2003, in the Cedar Hedge Nursing Facility in Rouses Point, N.Y.

Mrs. Brow was born in Embrum, Ontario Canada, Sept. 23,1909, the daughter of the late Philias and Amanda (Clavelle) Rochon.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at 11 a.m. from Saint Amadeus Roman Catholic Church, Main Street, Alburg Village. Father Wendell H. Searles and Vicar General for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Burlington will be the celebrant and homilist. Interment will follow in the Brow family lot in Saint Amadeus Cemetery. Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, from 4 to 8 p.m.
