Published: 1/27/03Beulah V. FurniaPLATTSBURGH — Beulah V. Furnia, 82, of Plattsburgh, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003 at Meadowbrook Healthcare Facility in Plattsburgh. She was born in Churubusco on Aug. 18, 1920, the daughter of Frederick C. and Mina (LaBarre) Furnia. Ms. Furnia was retired from New York State Harlem Valley Psychiatric Center where she worked as a beautician for many years. Beulah was a kind and generous person and devoted to the Catholic Church. She will be deeply missed by her family. Ms. Furnia is survived by her sister, Rita and her husband, Bernard Boissey, of West Plattsburgh; her brothers, Vernon and his wife, Aurora, of North Carolina, Francis of Plattsburgh, Alger and his wife, Eva, of Pawling, N.Y., Leonard of Plattsburgh, and Lester and his wife, Blanche, of Auburn, N.Y. She is also survived by 17 nieces and nephews, several great and great-great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Frederick and Mina (LaBarre) Furnia, her brothers Homer and Ronald, and her sisters Dora Duval and Shirley Ann Furnia. Calling hours will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday at the O’Neill-Redden-Drown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday from St. Joseph’s Church in Treadwells Mill. Interment will be in St. Edmund’s Cemetery in Ellenburgh in the spring. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimers Foundation or the local food shelf. Elizabeth A. LaPanPERU — Elizabeth A. LaPan, 79, of Apple Valley Drive, Peru, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. She was born in New Brunswick, N.J., Sept. 5, 1923, the daughter of Ralph and Elizabeth (VanDerveer) Fortmiller. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree from St. Peter’s Nursing School in New Brunswick, N.J., and served in the United States Army as a registered nurse with the ranks of 1st lieutenant. She married Carlton E. LaPan Sr., Dec. 28, 1946. They had served together at the U.S. Army Base in Fort Dix, N.J., in 1945. Mrs. LaPan was a past member of the Altar Rosary Society and a communicant of St. Augustine’s Church in Peru. She enjoyed porcelain painting, gambling and traveling, and loved horses. Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy and Dale Dumont of Albany, Jodie and Richard Marion of Ijamsville, Md., and Deb and Tom Everett of Peru; one sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Marty Waldman of Titusville, N.J.; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, including Paul Waldman and Ann Disbrow. She was predeceased by her husband, Carlton E. LaPan Sr., on Aug. 11, 1997; and her son, Carlton E. LaPan Jr., on March 31, 1993. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Augustine’s Church in Peru with the Rev. William Reamer, chaplain of the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, celebrating. Burial will be in the spring in the parish cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to the Elizabeth A. LaPan Memorial Nursing Scholarship Fund to be established at Peru Central School. Daniel J. CollinsPLATTSBURGH — Mr. Daniel J. "Danny" Collins, 64, of Kim Court, passed away Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at his home. He was born in Jersey City, N.J. on May 14, 1938, the son of Aloysius and Laura (Pickett) Collins. Danny served in the U.S. Air Force from 1957 to 1963. He had been club manager at the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Plattsburgh Lodge #621. Danny was predeceased by his parents Aloysius and Laura Collins, his twin brother, Michael, and a sister, Mary. He is survived by his wife Marylin (Leonard) Collins of Plattsburgh; four daughters, Kathy Bordeau and her husband, Ron, of Plattsburgh, Mary Collins of Mobile, Ala., Judy Defayette and her husband, Scott, of Plattsburgh, Alison Twentier and her husband, Larry, of Butler, Pa.; three sisters, Theresa Elsworth, Lorraine Kirsch and her husband, Frank, Peggy Maraski and her husband, Joe, all of Pa.; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh. A funeral service will follow at 8 p.m. with the Rev. Joseph W. Elliott, pastor of St. Alexander’s Church in Morrisonville, officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Friends wishing may make donations to Hospice of the North Country. GENEVIEVE GOOD, 52, of 1315 Military Turnpike, Plattsburgh, died Friday, Jan. 25, 2003, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vt. She was born in Potsdam on May 31, 1950, the daughter of Robert B. Good Sr. and Pauline A. (Layo) Good. There will be no calling hours or funeral service. Arrangements are with Phillips Memorial Home in Massena. Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to Clinton County ARC, P.O. Box 826, Plattsburgh, N.Y., 12901. BEATRICE M. BLAISE, 82, of Golf Course Road, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. She was born Jan. 10, 1921, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, the adopted daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T.D. Jones. Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, at the Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Name Catholic Church in AuSable Forks. Burial will be at a later date in Fairview Cemetery. |
