Published: 01/26/03Sister Marie Daniel BretonPlattsburgh — Sister Marie Daniel Breton (Marie - Ange Breton), 73, of Our Lady of Victory Convent, 4907 South Catherine St., died on Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, at Evergreen Valley Nursing Home in Plattsburgh, N.Y. Sister was born in St. Gedeon, Quebec, Canada, on July 16, 1929. She was the daughter of Wilfrid Breton and Alexandrine Fortin. She entered the Convent in Levis, Quebec, on Aug. 9, 1947, and made her vows on Feb. 12, 1950, in Bienville, Levis, in Quebec. Survivors include her Congregation, the Sisters of Charity of St. Louis; her nine sisters, Sister Therese, SCSL, Noella, Beatrice, Juliette, Denise, Simone, Danielle, Michele and Marielle; three brothers, Roger, Marius and Maurice; her sisters - in - law, Gemma Audet, Therese Lepage, Celine Nadeau, Solange Blais, Gisele Beaudet and Rose-Ange Vachon; her brothers - in - law, Herve Jolin, Germain Larochelle, Noel Paquet, Leo Beaudoin, Jean-Marc Anglehart and Roger Laprise; uncles and aunts, Claire and Henri-Louis Fortier, Laurent Dubord, Azarias and Lucienne Poulin and Marie-Jeanne Blanchette Fortier; several cousins; nephews and nieces; and grandnephews and grandnieces. She was predeceased by her parents, Wilfrid and Alexandrine; one sister; three brothers; and two brothers-in-law. Sister devoted about 20 years to community tasks as cook, gardener, driver and maintenance person. She then studied to become an LPN and worked for 15 years at Sacred Heart Nursing Home as Med Nurse and/or Charge Nurse. Her last years were spent doing volunteer work as Eucharistic Minister to the parishioners at CVPH and visits to shut-ins. Sister also cared for the sick and elderly at the convent as long as she could while battling her fight with cancer. Calling hours will be on Sunday, Jan. 26th, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown's Funeral Home, Inc., 29 Broad St. A funeral service will be held on Monday, Jan. 27th, at 1:30 p.m. from Our Lady of Victory Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will be held in the spring at St. Peter's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the SCSL Mission Fund to support their mission in Puebla, Mexico. Harold "Joe" ColeEllenburg Depot — Harold "Joe" Cole, 88, of the Clinton Mills Road, Ellenburg Depot, died Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, N.Y. He was born in Ellenburg Center, N.Y., on May 5, 1914, the son of Charles and Ruth (Moore) Cole. He was married to Inez Covey on Nov. 22, 1939, in the Ellenburg Methodist Church. Mr. Cole is survived by his wife of 63 years; a son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Patricia Cole of Ellenburg Depot, N.Y.; a daughter and son-in-law, Paul and Denise Irwin of Peru, N.Y.; six grandchildren, Tammy Cole and her companion Homer Manor of Ellenburg Depot, Brian Cole of Ellenburg Depot, Karen Cole and her companion Chad Spoor of Ellenburg Depot, Kayla Barber of Peru, Joshua Irwin of Peru and Jesse Irwin of Peru; a brother, Arthur Cole of Winthrop, N.Y.; four sisters, Alice St. Thomas of Massena, N.Y., Thelma Grenier of Waterbury, Vt., Marjorie Rowe of Ellenburg Depot, N.Y., and Naomi Keough of Churubusco, N.Y.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, including Bertha Baker, Katherine Rowe, Mary and Eleanor Cole and Agnes Bertrand; five brothers, John, Clinton, George, Rufus and Morton Cole. Mr. Cole owned and operated the family dairy farm his entire life, retiring in 1984. He was a member of Ellenburg Wesleyan Methodist Church. He enjoyed hunting and listening to blue grass music. He will be greatly missed by everyone. Calling hours will be held at the Chateaugay Funeral Home on Sunday, Jan. 26th, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 27th, in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Kent Brooks officiating. Burial will take place in the spring at Sheldon Hill Cemetery, Ellenburg Depot. Donations in his memory may be made to Churubusco Fire Department. Bernard C. RussellPlattsburgh — Bernard C. Russell, 86, formerly of 8 Bushey Blvd., died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at Evergreen Valley Nursing Home. He was born in Peru on June 8, 1916, the son of Joseph P. and Sophia (Coryer) Russell. Bernard married Marie Osher on Oct. 16, 1940, in St. Patrick's Church in West Peru. Mrs. Russell died Dec. 8, 1987. As a young man, he worked as a dairy farmer and then worked for the BFD, Diamond National and Georgia Pacific companies as a machine operator for 37 years, retiring in 1978. He was a member of St. Peter's, the Golden Age Club and Senior Citizens group. Bernard was an avid bingo player and he loved to play cards. Survivors include one daughter, Paulette Marsteller of Plattsburgh; one son-in-law, Dana Dintaman of Plattsburgh; one brother, Wallace P. Russell of Plattsburgh; one sister, Marian Donah of Lakeland, Fla.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A son, Lawrence Russell; a daughter, Marjorie Dintaman; three brothers, Frank J. Russell, Roy J. Russell and Edward; and two sisters, Frances Rose Russell and Katherine Couch, predeceased him. Calling hours at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 27th. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, Jan. 28th, at 11 a.m. at St. Peter's Church. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery in the spring. Raymond A. Whitelaw, 71, of Pontiac Street, Saranac Lake, died Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in Saranac Lake, N.Y., on Aug. 29, 1931, the son of Mark and Stella (DeForge) Whitelaw. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home with Rev. Thomas Kornmeyer, pastor of St. Bernard's Church, officiating. Burial will be at St. Bernard Cemetery in May. Donald Burke, 72, of AuSable Forks, died Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in Berkley, Mass., on March 30, 1930. There will be no calling hours. Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Whispering Maples Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Plattsburgh. The O'Neill - Redden - Drown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh is in charge of arrangements. Chester J. Wisnesky Sr., 89, a resident of the Valehaven Home in Malone for the past year, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at the Alice Hyde Nursing Home in Malone, where he had been transferred on Friday. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on July 9, 1913, the son of the late Joseph and Adele Wisniewski. Calling hours will be in the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone on Monday from 9 to 11 a.m. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Westville in the spring. |
