John D. "Jack" Keefe

AuSable Forks — John D. "Jack" Keefe died on Jan. 23, 2003, at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh.

He was the son of Francis J. and Kathryn (Tobin) Keefe. He was born on May 22, 1934.

After graduating from St. John's High School in Plattsburgh in 1953, he spent two years in the U.S. Army. He then attended Plattsburgh State University, from which he graduated in 1960. He taught for 32 years in the Peru school system.

He was a member of the Peru Association of Teachers and a life member of American Legion Post 504, AuSable Forks, N.Y. He was named Legionnaire of the Year for the year 2002 - 2003.

He was predeceased by his parents.

Survivors include his two brothers, James F. Keefe and Margaret Keefe of Liverpool, N.Y., and Rev. Daniel T. Keefe, pastor of St. Mary's of the Lake Church on Cumberland Head. Survivors also include four sons and three daughters, Patrick and Nancy Keefe of Glens Falls, Kevin Keefe and Lynne Donaldson of Peru, Daniel Keefe and Amy Erickson of Plattsburgh, Sean and Stephanie Keefe of Keeseville, Doreen Keefe of Barre, Vt., Donna and Donald Dick of Barre, Vt., and Molly Keefe of West Chazy. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Timothy, Elizabeth, Aidan and Regan Keefe.

A wake was held Friday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home in AuSable Forks. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated today in Holy Name Catholic Church, AuSable Forks, at 1 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the American Legion Post 504, AuSable Forks or Hospice of the North Country.

Carlton R. Eagle III

Keeseville — Carlton R. Eagle III, 52, of Liberty Street, Keeseville, died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, at the Fletcher Allen Healthcare Center in Burlington, Vt.

He was born in Chicago, Ill., on Aug. 22, 1950, the son of Carlton R. Jr. and Dorothy (Clough) Eagle.

Mr. Eagle was a Vietnam veteran, having served in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1971.

Carl was employed with New York State Electric and Gas for over 20 years.

He was a member of the Keeseville United Methodist Church, an avid golfer and enjoyed sailing in the San Francisco Bay.

Survivors include his wife, the former Helen C. Brant of Plattsburgh; three daughters, Karen Eagle of AuSable Forks, Kimberly Eagle and companion David Harris of Plattsburgh and Elizabeth Eagle of Plattsburgh; and one granddaughter, Dajanah Harris.

He was predeceased by his parents.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the Keeseville United Methodist Church with Rev. Sally White, pastor, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the CVPH Travel Fund or the charity of one’s choice.

Arrangements are with the Hamilton Funeral Home.

Raymond A. Demers

Champlain — Raymond A. Demers, 73, of Champlain, passed away Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born Nov. 12, 1929, the son of Rolland Demers and Mary Longtin.

Raymond was an avid bingo player. He loved his cats, gardening and working outdoors. He was a devout Catholic with a generous heart.

Raymond is survived by two daughters, Mary Bentley and her husband David of Buskirk, N.Y., and Lisa LaFountain and her husband Lowell of Chazy, N.Y.; one brother, Donald Demers of Champlain; one sister, Rita Oliver and her husband Andrew of Champlain; four grandchildren, David, Shannon, Jennifer and Adam; four great-grandchildren, Michael, Sadie, Serena and Nathaniel; he is also survived by his godmother, Magella Bocare of Champlain.

He was predeceased by his parents; one sister, Doris LaPlante; and two infant daughters, Marie and Tammy.

Calling hours were held Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, at the Clark Funeral Home in Champlain. A Mass of Christian burial followed at St. Mary's Church in Champlain at 4 p.m.

Donations in Raymond's memory may be made to the Champlain Fire Department.

Gertrude L. McClain, 82, of the Franklin County Nursing Home, died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, at that facility.

She was born on July 19, 1920, in Malone, N.Y., the daughter of Edward and Edith (Robinson) Hammill.

Calling hours will be Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the St. Mary-Murphy Funeral Home chapel. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church with Msgr. C.J. McAvoy officiating.

Spring burial will take placed in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Lake Titus Road, Malone, N.Y.
