Published: 01/24/03Theresa MurchisonPlattsburgh — Mrs. Theresa Murchison, 54, of Huntington Drive, passed away Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center. She was born in St. Hyacinth, Quebec, on Sept. 14, 1948, the daughter of Moses and Miriam Slutsky. She had worked at Sam's Club. Theresa enjoyed reading, cooking and taking walks. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. Theresa is survived by her husband, David L. Murchison Sr. of Plattsburgh; her stepchildren, Charlene Gomez and her husband Ricardo of Fredrick, Md., David Murchison Jr. and his companion Amy Islas of Plattsburgh, Mardi Murchison and her companion Daniel Neve of Plattsburgh, James Lamont Murchison and his companion Diana Davies of Plattsburgh and Anthony Field of Plattsburgh; many stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat-great-grandchildren; a brother, Sam Slutsky of Montreal; and several nieces and nephews. Theresa was predeceased by her parents, Moses and Miriam Slutsky; and a sister, Carol Slutsky. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at 7 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses on the Rand Hill Road in Morrisonville. Arrangements are with the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh. Raymond A. DemersChamplain — Raymond A. Demers, 73, of Champlain, passed away Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born Jan. 12, 1929, the son of Rolland Demers and Mary Longtin. Raymond was an avid bingo player. He loved his cats, gardening and working outdoors. He was a devout Catholic with a generous heart. Raymond is survived by two daughters, Mary Bentley and her husband David of Buskirk, N.Y., and Lisa LaFountain and her husband Lowell of Chazy, N.Y.; one brother, Donald Demers of Champlain; one sister, Rita Oliver and her husband Andrew of Champlain; four grandchildren, David, Shannon, Jennifer and Adam; four great-grandchildren, Michael, Sadie, Serena and Nathaniel; he is also survived by his godmother, Magella Bocare of Champlain. He was predeceased by his parents; one sister, Doris LaPlant; and two infant daughters, Marie and Tammy. Calling hours will be Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, at the Clark Funeral Home in Champlain from 2 to 4 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at St. Mary's Church in Champlain at 4 p.m. Donations in Raymond's memory may be made to the Champlain Fire Department. Dr. Wade A. HastingsNorth Bangor — Dr. Wade A. Hastings, 87, of North Bangor, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, at his home. Born in East Dickinson on Sept. 21, 1915, he was a son of Wade and Cherry (Kimball) Hastings. He attended a one-room school house through the 7th grade, graduated from Brushton High School in 1933 and attended and graduated from Syracuse University in 1937 and McGill University College of Medicine in 1941. He interned at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal, entered military service in October 1942 and served with the 264 Medical Battalion, attached to the 4th Engineers Amphibious Brigade. He was Company Commander, Company A and promoted to captain. Dr. Hastings served in the Pacific Theatre extending throughout New Guinea, Dutch East Indies and the Philippines. He was with the first U.S. Forces to enter Manila in the Santa Tomas concentration camp. At the end of the war on Aug. 13, 1945, Dr. Hastings went to Tokyo and remained in Japan for three and a half months. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army. During 1946 and 1947, he completed a surgical residency in Twillingate, Newfoundland. On July 8, 1942, he married Marjorie Wood of Twillingate, Newfoundland, in Christ Church Cathedral, Montreal. Dr. Hastings began practicing medicine, surgery and obstetrics in the fall of 1947 in North Bangor, N.Y., and continued full time practice until 1987 and part time until 2001. He was a member of St. Joseph Church. An avid hunter and outdoorsman, he was a member of the McCavanaugh Pond Club for many years. He was a member of the Malone Flying Club and loved to parachute. Surviving are his wife Marjorie; three sons and three daughters-in-law, Dr. Barry K. and Zenaida Hastings of North Bangor, Drs. Brent and Molly Hastings of Burlington, Vt., and Bruce and Karen Hastings of Brandon; grandchildren Darcy Cole, Darin Sherwin, Jason Hastings, Missy Hastings Lavigne, Michael Hastings, Jonathon Hastings, Jeffrey Hastings, Alison Hastings, Angela Hastings and Alan Hastings; and great-grandchildren Emma Hastings and John, Kristy and Richard Sherwin. He was predeceased by a son, Craig Hastings; a daughter, Cherry B. Sherwin; a granddaughter, Sherry Hastings; four brothers, Phillip, Mason, Herbert and Hollis, in infancy, Hastings; and two sisters, Mrs. Annabelle Macomber and Mrs. Fern Petty. There are no calling hours. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Church. Burial will be in North Bangor Cemetery. Memorial donations may be given to Hastings Kidney Dialysis Unit, Alice Hyde Medical Center or North Bangor Volunteer Fire Dept. Arrangements are with the Spaulding Funeral Home of Malone. Russell H. LaRock, 71, of Houston, Texas, died Jan. 18, 2003, at Park Plaza Hospital, Houston, Texas. He was born in Schuyler Falls, N.Y., on June 2, 1931, the son of Herbert and Roseanna (Gumlaw) LaRock. A memorial service will be held in the spring. |
