Published: 01/23/03Robert J. McMullenPLATTSBURGH — Robert J. McMullen, 91, of West Court Street, Plattsburgh, N.Y., formerly of Packer Street, West Avoca and the Pine Brook section of Scranton, died Wednesday, at his home. His wife of 32 years is the former Catherine O'Malley McGarry. His first wife, the former Mary Farrell, preceded him in death. He was born Aug. 14, 1911, in Pittston, son of the late Nathan and Isabelle (Kerr) McMullen. He was a member of St. Peter's Church, Plattsburgh, and St. Mary's Church, Avoca, where he was a choir member and soloist for many years. He was a member of the Central Pennsylvania Teamsters, the West Side Social Club, West Avoca; and the Knights of Columbus, Pittston. He was formerly employed by Grablick's Dairy, West Pittston. Also surviving are a daughter, Mary Patrice Quinn, Greenwood section of Moosic; a stepdaughter, Colleen Lutinski, Plattsburgh; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; a brother, Edward, Scranton; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas R.; two sisters, Margaret Seabring and infant Jean McMullen; and three brothers, William, Nathan and Jack. The funeral will be Saturday at 9 a.m. from the Kniffen O'Malley Funeral Home Inc., 728 Main St., Avoca, with Mass at 9:30 in St. Mary's Church, to be celebrated by the Rev. Joseph Elston. Interment, St. Mary's Cemetery, Avoca. Friends may call Friday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Josephine A. TaylorMORRISONVILLE — Josephine A. Taylor, 88, of Ashton Drive and formerly of San Rafael died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center. She was born in San Anselmo, Calif., on Dec. 25, 1914, the daughter of Dominic and Mariane (Rhoda) Prola. Josephine married William D. Taylor in Lake Tahoe, Calif., in 1945. Mr. Taylor died in 1986. Mrs. Taylor was a member of St. Alexander's Church. Survivors include, one son, Michael Taylor and his wife Rose Marie of Morrisonville; one grandson, Paul Taylor of Los Angeles, Calif.; two granddaughters, Mary Ann Bass and her husband Andrew of San Diego, Calif., and Jillian Taylor of Morrisonville. One son, Dennis J. Taylor; one brother, Joseph Prola; and one sister, Emma Pinza died earlier. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday at 1 p.m. at St. Alexander's Church in Morrisonville. Burial will be at a later date in the parish cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Electa H. LaClairEllenburg Center — Electa H. LaClair, 88, of Ellenburg Center, died Monday, Jan. 20, 2003, at the Meadowbrook Healthcare Facility in Plattsburgh. She was born in Ellenburg, on June 26, 1914, the daughter of John and Nellie (Pelkey) Whalen. She was employed at Diamond International in Plattsburgh until her retirement in 1979 and then became an Avon representative until 1991. She is survived by a son, Darwin LaClair of Chateaugay Lake; three daughters and sons-in-law, Vedora and John Bielat of Plattsburgh, Faye and Loyal Gregory of Ellenburg Center and Anice and Bernard Lamora of Morrisonville; a daughter-in-law, Linda Laclair of South Carolina; a sister, Vedora Maloney of Chateaugay; two sisters-in-law, Ula Smith of Ellenburg, Odile LeClair of Churubusco; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Her husband, Lawrence; two sons, Lloyd and Nyle; a daughter, Mary; and a sister, Fern Engel, all died before her. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 2:30 to 4:45 p.m. at the E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Ellenburg Depot. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 5 p.m. Friday from St. Edmund's Church in Ellenburg. Interment will be in Whispering Maples Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Ellenburg Depot. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Edmund’s Church Window Fund. George. J. Sullivan, 88, of Sentinel Road, Lake Placid, died Tuesday morning, Jan. 21, 2003, at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. He was born in Lake Placid, Aug. 13, 1914, the son of Michael J. and Alice (Montany) Sullivan. Friends may call at the Clark Funeral Home, Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A fireman's prayer service will be held at the funeral home Thursday, evening at 8 p.m., followed by a bible vigil service. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday, January 24, at St. Agnes Church, Rev. Michael Gaffney will officiate. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery in May. Marie B. Potvin, 71, of Tupper Lake, died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, at her daughter’s home in Naples Fla., with care from Collier Court. Hospice. She was born April 20, 1931, in Tupper Lake she was the daughter of Joseph and Margaret Katherine Kavanagh Edwards. Calling hours will be held Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Richer Funeral Home in Tupper Lake. A funeral Mass will be held Friday, Jan. 24, 2003 at 11 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Church. |
