Arnold G. Chapman

PLATTSBURGH — Arnold G. Chapman, 89, of Trafalgar Dr., Plattsburgh, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2003, at John Demsey Hospital, Farmington, Conn.

He was born in Albany, N.Y., Nov. 29, 1913, the son of Arnold and Marjorie (Nead) Chapman, and was the grandson of Linnie Prescott Nead, a native of KeeseviIle.

Mr. Chapman married Jane P. Buckley on May 31, 1941, in Bennington, Vt.

He graduated from Albany Academy in 1931, Princeton University in 1935 and received his Juris Doctor degree, cum laude, from Albany Law School in 1938. While at Princeton he was editor of the school newspaper and was All American on the Lacrosse Team. At Albany Law School he was Justinian Scholar. After practicing for two years in Albany, he opened his law office in Plattsburgh in 1940.

He was a member of the New York State Bar Association and a past President of the Clinton County Bar Association. Mr. Chapman was a life member of Plattsburgh Lodge of Elks 621 and served with the U.S. Army in the European Theatre during World War II.

His past activities included Plattsburgh YMCA board and vice president; Plattsburgh Rod and Gun Club, secretary; Plattsburgh Glee Club, president; Plattsburgh Barbershoppers, charter member and vice president; Sunmount State School, charter member and president Board of Visitors; Champlain Valley School of Nursing, board of directors; Plattsburgh Ski Club, secretary; Albany Ski Club, charter member and secretary; Algonquin Chapter, ADK, Founding Charter Member; Clinton County Ski Council, "Beartown", charter member organizer and leader of Ski Patrol; American Red Cross first aid instructor and Clinton County Board director; Plattsburgh Community Chest budget committee; U.S. Lacrosse Coaches Association; U.S. Eastern Amateur Ski Association; appointed National Ski Patrolman 507 in 1942; and Plattsburgh Winter Sports Club, secretary.

Survivors include his wife, the former Jane Patricia Buckley; a daughter and son-in-law, Meredith and Dr. Michael T. O'Connor; two sons and daughters-in-law, Arnold III and Marita Chapman and Dr. Christopher and Judith Chapman; seven grandchildren, Jebby Chapman, Leah Chapman, Michael O'Connor, Christopher O'Connor, Christopher Chapman and his wife Tammy, Jeremy Chapman and Ian Chapman; two great-grandchildren, Shane and Avery Chapman.

He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Sunny Chapman; and two sisters, Marjorie Tubbs and Carol Prescott.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, Jan. 17, 2003, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at St. Peter's Church. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in the spring.

Donations in his memory may be made to the YMCA or Beartown Ski Association.

Robert D. Hough

Mooers Forks — Robert D. Hough, 68, died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, at his home.

He was born in Mooers Forks on July 3, 1934, the son of George and Delinda (Lafountain) Hough.

Robert was a farmer all of his life. He also worked for Georgia Pacific, Seaway and the Mooers Highway Department.

He was a member of St. Ann's Church, the Ellenburg Knights of Columbus, the Mooers Fire Department and a former Fire Chief of Mooers Station 2.

Survivors include his wife, the former Joyce Boadway; a son, David Hough of Mooers Forks; three daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Herbert Dann of Mooers Forks, Debra and David Burdo of Mooers Forks and Sheila and Mike Perreault of Churubusco; an adopted son, Donald St. John of Constable; a sister, Joyce Hebert of Constable; two nephews, Mike and Billy Hough; a niece, Carolyn LaValley; nine grandchildren, Reginald and Nicky Poupore Jr., Dawn and Robert Miller, Charity and Michael Derek, Lisa and Eric Garrand, Becky Burdo, Daniel Burdo, Travis Perreault and Ashly and Alex Hough; and six great grandchildren.

His brother, Dennis Hough died before him.

Calling hours will be Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Ellenburg Depot. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11 a.m. from St. Ann's Church in Mooers Forks. Burial will be in the parish cemetery in the spring.

Paul S. Wilson

Ticonderoga — Paul S. Wilson, 68, of Bull Rock Road, Ticonderoga, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, at his residence.

He was born in Lansing, Mich., Nov. 25, 1934, the son of the late Robert and Thelma (Dean) Wilson.

Mr. Wilson was a resident of Ticonderoga for many years. He was employed by the International Paper Company of Ticonderoga in the Air and Water Department at Ross' Farm for 38 years, until his retirement in 1995. He was a member of the Company's Quarter Century Club.

Mr. Wilson was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served as a military policeman, during the Korean War. He was a member of the NRA.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Donna R. (Huestis) Wilson; his stepfather and stepmother, Ward and Irene Swarthout of Lansing, Mich.; two sons, Mark P. Wilson of Wasilla, Alaska and Steven W. Wilson of Palmer, Alaska; three daughters, Cheryl Burris of Ticonderoga, Vick Griffin of Palmer, Alaska, and Kim Nadeau of Ticonderoga: one brother, Leonard Wilson of Lansing, Mich.; one half-brother, Ward Dean Swarthout of Putnam Station, N.Y.; many grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will take place Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at 10:30 a.m. at the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home, 11 Algonkin St., Ticonderoga. The Rev. Paul O'Connor, pastor of the Cornerstone Alliance Church of Ticonderoga, will officiate.

William C. Maxwell

PORT ORANGE, FLA. — Mr. William C. Maxwell, 67, of Port Orange, Fla., passed away on Jan. 14, 2003, at his residence.

He was born in Wilkensburg, Pa. He had lived in Port Orange since 1987, coming from Floyd, N.Y. He also had been a resident of Plattsburgh for many years. He retired after 20 years from the U.S. Air Force.

Mr. Maxwell is survived by his wife, Dixie; two sons, William J. of Toms River, N.J., and James L. of Port Orange, Fla.; three daughters, Jill Garn of Port Orange, Fla., and Lisa Jones and Tracy Maxwell, both of Atlanta, Ga.; his sister, Grace Bradley, of Swanton, Md.; and nine grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 17, 2003, in Port Orange Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow with full military honors in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Fla.

Arrangements are under the direction of Cardwell & Maloney Funeral Home, Port Orange, Fla.

MARLENE FURGUSONCalling hours for Marlene Kissane Ferguson, who died Dec. 19, 2002, in Las Cruces, N.M., will be held Monday, Jan. 20, 2003, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Spaulding Funeral Home in Malone.

Donations in her memory may be given to the Malone Call Fireman, The First Congregational Church or the American Diabetes Association.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
