Joseph J. Martina

PLATTSBURGH — Joseph J. Martina, 79, of Morrison Avenue, died of heart complications on Friday, Jan. 10, 2003, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in Attica, N.Y., on May 20, 1923, the son of James and Carmella (Barone) Martina.

Joseph was a graduate of Dansville High School in Dansville, N.Y. While attending Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md., World War II started and he joined the U.S. Navy. He attended Midshipman’s School in Plattsburgh, where he became a lieutenant junior grade upon graduation. While in the U.S. Navy he attended Harvard University. While serving in the U.S. Navy he saw active duty in the Pacific Theater as a navigation officer. After his military discharge he graduated from Johns Hopkins University. Joseph came to Plattsburgh as an engineer working for Diamond Match. He then became superintendent of public works and city engineer. Joseph started his own business, Engineering Services, retiring in 1993. He was a member of the Plattsburgh Rotary Club, a member of the Plattsburgh Elks Lodge, a member of the American Legion Post #20, a member of St. Vincent de Paul’s, a member and past president of the Library Board, a member and past president of Beartown, he belonged to National Ski Patrol, a member of National Engineering Society, a member of the City of Plattsburgh Planning Board, and was a member of St. Peter’s Parish in Plattsburgh. Joseph valued family over everything else. He lived his life with his family first. His hobbies included downhill skiing, golfing and he was an avid rose gardener.

Joseph is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Joyce Martina of Plattsburgh; three children, Deborah Martina-Leggott and Martin of Brattleboro, Vt., William Martina and Debora of Atlanta, Ga., Michaele Conners and Dana of Charlotte, N.C.; seven grandchildren, Alexandra and Meredith Shepherd (Leggott), Cameron and Morgan Leigh Martina, Joseph, and Taylor and Nathan Conners; two brothers, Vincent Martina and Doris of Dansville, N.Y., and John Martina and Rose of Rochester; a sister, Mary Hughes and Charles of Marathon, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17 at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday from St. Peter’s Church in Plattsburgh.

Donations in Mr. Martina’s memory may be made to American Heart Association, St. Vincent de Paul or the Rotary Foundation.

Dagma Brooks

ELLENBURG — Dagma (Blow) Brooks, 97, of Ellenburg, passed away on Jan. 11, 2003, at the Pleasant Valley Nursing Home in Argyle, N.Y.

Born in Churubusco, she was the daughter of James J. Blow and Emma (Robideau) Blow, who was also 97 when she died. Dagma was predeceased by her husband, Lorin S. Brooks, in December 1988 and her brother, Donald Blow.

Dagma met her husband at an apartment house in Malone when he offered to help her with her homework from Adirondack Commercial School, even though he did not know any shorthand. They were married on Nov. 28, 1927, at Notre Dame Church in Malone and lived much of their life together in Ellenburg, wintering in Florida for a number of years. She was a communicant of St. Edmund’s Parish, Ellenburg, and a member of the Altar-Rosary Society. After Lorin passed, Dagma lived in Plattsburgh and more recently in Greenwich, N.Y., until moving to the nursing home in 2001 where she was honored and cared for by her loving staff.

She is survived by her son, Donald, and his wife, Mary Anne, of Greenwich, as well as a brother, Marshall, and his wife, Sonja, of Rouses Point, and a sister-in-law, Helen Blow of Plattsburgh. Other survivors include four granddaughters, Lorraine Brooks of Louisville, Colo., Denise Brooks McQuade and her husband, Mark, of Schuylerville, N.Y., Elaine Brooks Blanchet and her husband, Robert, of Albany, and Marcia Brooks of Pompano Beach, Fla.; a step-granddaughter, Julianne Girard of Albany; a step-grandson, Gabe Girard, and his wife, Stephanie, of Plattsburgh; and nine great-grandchildren, Glenn, Travis, Lauren, Ellen, Molly, Bryan, Ted, Megan and Aubrie.

During her full life, she enjoyed cooking, entertaining at the family camp on Chateaugay Lake, watching her stories, working on her scrapbooks, and keeping in touch with family and friends through her letter writing.

Family and friends may visit from 4 to 6:45 p.m. Tuesday at E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Ellenburg Depot. A funeral Mass will follow at 7 p.m. at St. Edmund’s Church in Ellenburg.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Cemetery Fund, St. Edmund’s Parish, Ellenburg, N.Y. 12933.

Davison F. Pratt

CHAZY — Davison F. Pratt, 74, of Chazy, died Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born in Mooers Forks on June 9, 1928, the son of Davison W. and Elsie (Blair) Pratt.

He served as town justice in Mooers for 13 years and in Chazy for 19 years. He was a member of the Clinton County and N.Y.S. Magistrates Associations. He owned and operated a barbershop in Chazy for more than 52 years. He always loved and owned show horses and ponies.

He is survived by a son, Stephen Pratt, and his fiancée, Donna Oliver of Chazy; one daughter and son-in-law, Sharron and Adrian Dutil of West Chazy; one brother, Lawrence Pratt of Newcomb; one sister, Mrs. George (Madge) Rudd of Loconia, N.Y.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Mooers. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday from the funeral home chapel. Interment will be in Union Cemetery in Mooers Forks in the spring.

Elizabeth A. Grant

MORIAH — Elizabeth A. Grant, 89, of Moriah, died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003, at the Moses-Ludington Nursing Home in Ticonderoga.

She was born on Feb. 23, 1913, at Mineville, the daughter of Alex and Katherine (Varga) Gergley. She was a 1931 graduate of Port Henry High School.

Elizabeth is survived by her sons, John Grant of Moriah and Harold Grant of Yardley, Pa.; one grandson; three granddaughters; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, John F. Grant; her sisters, Mary Sufnosky, Julia Cheney and Margaret Glindmeyer; and her brother, Alex Gergley.

At her request there will be no calling hours.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, at St. Patrick’s Church in Port Henry, with the Rev. Michael Toth officiating.

Spring burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Moses-Ludington Nursing Home Residents Fund, Ticonderoga.

Harland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Trina Moulton Siskavich

CADYVILLE — Trina Moulton Siskavich, 28, of Route 3, Cadyville, died Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003 at the Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone as a result of injuries sustained in a snowmobile accident.

She was born on April 11, 1974, the daughter of James Moulton and Donna Atkinson Collins.

Trina grew up in Standish and Saranac.

She graduated from Saranac Central School and Plattsburgh State University with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. She was currently employed with the Clinton County Department of Social Services.

Trina enjoyed outdoor activities and especially enjoyed spending time with her daughter and family.

Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Donna and David Collins of Redford; her father and stepmother, James and Joanne Moulton of Lyon Mountain; her daughter, MacKenzie Siskavich; companion, Chris LeFevre of Cadyville; former husband, David Siskavich of Lyon Mountain; three brothers and one sister-in-law, Christopher Moulton of Riverview, Glen Moulton of Standish, and James "Buckshot" and Jessie Moulton of Cadyville; two nieces and one nephew, little Trina, Chad and Stephanie Moulton; maternal grandmother, Geraldine Atkinson of Riverview; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church of Saranac with the Rev. Tracey Golas, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the spring in the Independence Cemetery in Saranac.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Make-a-Wish Foundation.

MARY TRAUTMAN, 93, of Beekman Street, died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

NELLIE M. ADAMS, 74, of Soper Street, Morrisonville, died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003 at Meadowbrook Health Care Facility in Plattsburgh.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be handled by the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru.
