Published: 01/05/03Helen E. LeavensTiconderoga — Helen E. Leavens, 80, of Lord Howe Street, passed away Friday, Jan. 3, 2003, at her residence. She was born in Crown Point on April 30, 1922, the daughter of the late Cyrus and Lillian (Cannon) Pulcipher. Mrs. Leavens was a resident of Ticonderoga for most of her life. She was employed as a waitress at the Burleigh House Restaurant of Ticonderoga for many years. She was also employed by the Moses-Ludington Hospital of Ticonderoga for several years. She was predeceased by one son, Kevin Leavens; and by two sisters, Pearl Spaulding and Rosamond Caska. Survivors include one son, James A. Leavens of Ticonderoga; one sister, Florence Labatore of Ticonderoga; eight grandchildren; three great - grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. There will be no calling hours. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Ticonderoga. The Rev. William G. Muench, pastor, will officiate. The Rite of Committal will take place at the family plot of the May Memorial Cemetery of Hague in the spring. Donations in her memory may be made to St. Mary's School, 64 Amherst Ave., Ticonderoga, NY 12883. Ralph L. CarpenterDanbury, Conn. — Ralph L. Carpenter, 69, died Friday evening, Jan. 3, 2003, in Danbury, Conn. Ralph was the superintendent of the Quinnebaug Valley Community College in Connecticut and retired in 1996. He was a veteran of the Korean War and also was a commissioned civilian in Vietnam. He grew up in the Adirondack Mountains in Peru, N.Y. He lived and worked for many years in Willsboro, N.Y. He missed many of his old friends there and spoke of them often. He was a nuclear inspector throughout the country in the 1970’s. He will be remembered as a hard working, honest man who was proud to be an American. He was a generous supporter of many charities. Thank you to all his friends at Bickford’s. He is survived by his son, Paul Carpenter of Newtown, Conn.; his daughter, Jill Carpenter of Clifton Park, N.Y.; his stepdaughter, Kristin Tingey of Ashford, Conn.; and his stepson, David Strong of Atlanta, Ga. He is also survived by a sister, Marilynn Kingsbury of Mooers, N.Y.; and his brother, Lowell Carpenter of North Carolina. He had four grandchildren. At his request, there are no services to attend but donations to the Jimmy Fund in his name would be appreciated. Veronica M. Patnode, 75, of Ganong Drive, Saranac, died Friday, Jan. 3, 2003, at CVPH Medical Center. Calling hours will be held Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Assumption of Mary Church in Redford. Burial will be at a later date in St. Edmund's Cemetery in Ellenburg. A full obituary will be published in Monday's paper. Jeanine L. Vincent, 71, of River Street, Lake Placid, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, after a long illness. She was born in Lake Placid on Aug. 26, 1931, the daughter of Eugene and D. Evelyn (Venette) LaGoy. Calling hours will be held at the Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 10 to 11 a.m., with services at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Michael Gaffney, pastor of St. Agnes Church, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery in May. |
