Published: 12/28/02Wayne P. MillerWest Chazy — Wayne P. Miller, 59, died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in Malone on June 14, 1943, the son of Benjamin and Ruth (McNeil) Nephew. He served in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1966 and was employed as a supervisor at Wyeth Laboratories for 36 years until his retirement. He was an avid golfer. He is survived by his wife, Susan (Recore) Miller of West Chazy; his sons, Craig Miller of Plattsburgh and his mother, Elliette Newkirk of Williston, Vt., Jesse Miller of West Chazy, two step children, Jonathan and Christa Magoon of West Chazy and Jason Magoon of Syracuse, his mother Ruth McNeil Nephew, five brothers and two sisters-in-law, Gary and Sharon Nephew of West Chazy, Daniel and June Nephew of West Chazy, Thomas Nephew of Rochester, Douglas Nephew of Gainesville, Fla., and Greg Nephew of Rochester; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Janice and Dave Butler of Rochester, Karen and George Murray of Fort Myers, Fla., Darlene Roloff and her husband Mike of Asheville, N.C., Laurie and Kevin Dobert of Syracuse; his mother-in-law, Gertrude Recore Nichols of Chateaugay; two brothers-in-law and five sisters-in-law, Donnie and Sharon Recore of Burke, Joanne Colburn King of Plattsburgh, Cindy Recore of Chateaugay, Debby and Robert Patnode of Chateaugay, Debby Recore of Chateaugay; a granddaughter, Jillian Magoon of West Chazy; and several nieces and nephews. His father and a sister, Audrey Miller died earlier. Calling hours were held on Friday at the E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Mooers. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday from the Mooers United Methodist Church with the Rev. Al Johnson, pastor officiating. The pall bearers will be Gary Nephew, Daniel Nephew, Doug Nephew, Greg Nephew, Gerald Duprey and Corey Desranleau. Interment will be at a later date. Miller, 83, of South Pearl Street, Malone, passed away peacefully after a short illness on Dec. 24, 2002, at Fletcher Allen Healthcare, Burlington, Vt. He was born in Fultonville, N.Y., on May 22, 1919, the son of Err and Ada Mae (Smith) Miller. He married Geraldine Trushaw on June 27, 1940, in Notre Dame Church, Malone. She predeceased him on July 24, 1995, after 55 years of marriage. Mr. Miller is survived by five brothers and a sister, Edmond Miller of Canajoharie, N.Y., Howard Miller of Camp Corona, Calif., Milfred Miller and his wife Mary Lou of Johnstown, N.Y.. Fayette Miller and his wife Thelma of Adrin, Mich., Elreda Hughes of Osseo, Mich., and Everette Miller and his wife Margaret of Johnstown, N.Y.; a sister-in-law, Helen Conto of Malone, N.Y.; good friends Mark and Denise Young of Malone, N.Y.; and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, he was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Theron Miller; and four sisters, Grace Handy, Reva Antis, Eva Mereness and Vivian Jones. After graduating from Johnstown High School, Mr. Miller enlisted into the U.S. Navy on April 28, 1943, where he served as an electrician's mate, second class. He served on a destroyer, the U.S.S. Ingraham in the Asiatic Pacific. He was honorably discharged on Nov. 6, 1945. He moved to Malone 60 years ago and was employed at several different locations including Aloca, retiring as a service manager for Sears & Roebuck Company of Malone. Mr. Miller spent his more recent years enjoying fishing, hunting and woodworking. He was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons Northern Aurora Lodge, Malone-Fort Covington, the Media Temple of the Malone Shriners Club. He was a lifetime member and treasurer of the Everton Fish and Game Club. Mr. Miller was also a current member of the Malone Lodge of Elks and the Malone American Legion Post. Calling hours will be Sunday, Dec. 29, at St. Mary Murphy Funeral Home from 1 to 3 p.m. Funeral service will immediately follow in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Tom Davis officiating. Duprey, 70, of Champlain, passed away Thursday, Dec. 26, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born on July 10, 1932, in Sciota, the son of Leo and Anna (Corrow) Duprey. He is predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Russell Duprey and Marshall Duprey; and one sister, Mary Deso. Kenneth is survived by his wife, the former Carolyn Martin of Champlain; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Edward Duprey of Champlain, Larry Duprey of Champlain and Ricky and Tracey Duprey of Champlain; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sheila Duprey of Champlain and Donald and Laurie King of Champlain; two brothers, Douglas Duprey of Mooers and Harold Duprey of Plattsburgh; five sisters, Helen Dymowski of Lancaster, Calif., Angline Houle of Rouses Point, Catherine Dupee of Champlain, Florence Hansen of Champlain and Lillian Duprey of Jay; and 12 grandchildren. Calling hours will be Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home in Champlain. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, at St. Joseph's Church in Coopersville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the FitzPatrick Cancer Center. Millard G. MayoWethersfield, Conn. — Millard G. Mayo, 78, of Wethersfield, died unexpectedly on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, at Hartford Hospital of a stroke. Born in Chazy, N.Y., he was the son of the late Millard W. and Natalie (Brown) Mayo and had lived in Wethersfield since 1952. He graduated in 1942 from an innovative institution known as Chazy CentraI Rural School. In the fall of 1942, he enrolled at Plattsburgh State Teacher’s College and joined the Naval V-5 Reserve Air Program. In 1943, he was called into active duty. In 1944, he received his commission and wings at the U.S. Naval Air Station, Corpus Christi, Texas. He was then assigned to the U.S. Naval Air Station in New Orleans, La., as a primary flight instructor. On leaving the service, he enrolled at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and graduated with a degree in aeronautical engineering. As a design engineer at the Hamilton Standard division of United Technologies, he obtained several patents. His designs included wing-sweep mechanisms for supersonic aircraft and wind turbines to generate energy. He is survived by his six children, daughter Lucinda Mayo and Michael Hogan of Guadalajara, Mexico, daughter and son-in-law Karen and Joseph Finnegan and their children, Katie and Patrick of West Hartford, son and daughter-in-law John and Deborah Mayo and their children, Allison and David of West Hartford, son and daughter-in-law Stephen and Rebecca Mayo and their son Danny of Bethany, daughter Mary Katherine Mayo of Wethersfield and son and daughter-in-law, James and Laura Mayo and their children, Anna and Heather of Wethersfield; his brother and sister-in-law, Herwood and Joyce Mayo and their family of Chazy, N.Y; and his beloved friend, Joan Mortensen and her family of Wethersfield. A funeral was held from the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel in Wethersfield, with a Mass of Christian burial at Sacred Heart Church in Wethersfield, on Dec. 24, 2002. Burial will be in Village Cemetery, Wethersfield. Myron Jay Gordon Jr.Santa Barbara, Calif. — Myron Jay Gordon Jr., known to friends and family as Jay, died peacefully in his sleep on Dec. 22, 2002, after a long illness. He was born in the City of Plattsburgh on March 10, 1923, to Myron J. and Bertha (Mendelsohn) Gordon. He was a resident of Santa Barbara, Calif., for the past 27 years. He was raised in the City of Plattsburgh, N.Y., and while there operated Gordon's Boot Shop with his now deceased brother Paul. Jay remained in Plattsburgh until 1975 when he moved to Santa Barbara for semi-retirement, working in residential real estate. Jay was a graduate of Plattsburgh High School and University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business. He served during World War II in the Philippines and Germany. Jay's great-grandparents were founding members of the Jewish community in the mid-1800's in Plattsburgh, N.Y., and he was a long standing member of Temple Beth-Israel there. He was an active member of the Optimist Club and B'nai Brith and volunteered in Santa Barbara as a driver for Easy Lift program as well as being an AARP volunteer. Jay loved family and family traditions, boating on Lake Champlain and woodworking and was most proud of a life lived honestly. He is survived by his wife Lucienne and her family of Santa Barbara; his daughter Susan and son-in-law Stephen Herzog; son Stephen, his wife Chris and their three children, Megan, Rachael and Zoe; and his loving brother Philip and his wife Shirley; sister-in-law May; as well as many nieces and nephews. Jay was predeceased by his father, Myron J. Gordon Sr.; his mother, Bertha Gordon; a sister, Barbara Nolland; and a brother, Paul. Jay's family wishes to express their profound thanks and respect for the staff at Mission Terrace in Santa Barbara who cared for Jay during the last years of his life. Funeral arrangements are through Welch-Ryche-Heider in Santa Barbara. Jay's remains are to be cremated. A family memorial service will be conducted at a future date. Contributions in his memory may be made to Temple Beth Israel in Plattsburgh, N.Y., Easy Lift in Santa Barbara, Calif., or the B'nai Brith in either city. Louise M. Belanga, 88, formerly of Sawyer Avenue, Malone, N.Y., died Dec. 26, 2002, at the Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid, N.Y. She had been a resident of the Farrar Home in Malone. She was born in Clare, N.Y., on May 9, 1914, the daughter of the late Albert and Lula (Peck) Mills. There are no calling hours. A funeral service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. in the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tom Davis officiating. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery in Malone in the spring. Douglas W. Muzzy, 52, of the Muzzy Road, AuSable Forks, died Dec. 26, 2002, at his mother’s home in AuSable Forks, after a lengthy illness. He was born on Sept. 26, 1950, in Keene Valley, the son of Bernard and Gloria (Bushey) Muzzy. Calling hours will be held Sunday, Dec. 29, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home, AuSable Forks. Funeral services will be held Dec. 30th, at 10 a.m. at St. James Episcopal Church, AuSable Forks, with Rev. Alan Macnab, pastor of St. James Church, officiating. Cremation will be performed following the funeral service. Burial will be at a later date. Guy Cassevaugh, 93, of the Sheldrake Road, AuSable Forks, died Dec. 26, 2002, at the Cedar Hedge Nursing Home in Rouses Point. He was born Sept. 19, 1909, in West Chazy, the son of Joseph and Lottie (Guyette) Cassevaugh. There will be no calling hours or funeral services at this time. Graveside services will be held in the spring at the family plot where he will be laid to rest beside his wife in the North Jay Cemetery, AuSable Forks. Zaumetzer - Sprague Funeral Home, AuSable Forks, is in charge of arrangements. Joseph J. "Putt" Jaunczewski, 77, of Silver Hill Road, Witherbee, died Dec. 25, 2002, at the Community Hospital, Elizabethtown, N.Y. Putt was born on May 26, 1925, at Danby, Vt., the son of Joseph and Mery (Wojizhercurze) Jaunczewski. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be conducted at a place and time to be announced. The Harland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Dorothy F. St. Louis, 77, of West Valley Road, Lake Placid, died Dec. 27, 2002, at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. She was born in Riverside, N.J., on Jan. 23, 1925, the daughter of Charles and Ida (Simpkins) Stackhouse. Visitation will be held Saturday, Dec. 28th, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid. A funeral service will be held Sunday, Dec. 29th, at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Mark Demers, pastor of the Adirondack Community Church, will officiate. Bette Jean Cassavaugh, 74 , formerly of Watertown and Saranac Lake, died Dec. 25, 2002, at the Elyria United Methodist Village, Elyria, Ohio. She was born April 9, 1928, in Cortland, N.Y. Calling hours will be held on May 5, 2003 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Burial will be held May 6th in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Saranac Lake.
