Christopher Emmet Hallowell

Westport — Christopher Emmet Hallowell, 30, of Westport, N.Y., died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Mass.

He was a very brave survivor of leukemia at the age of 15 months, followed by a heart/lung transplant in 1988.

He graduated from Champlain College in 1997 with bachelor of science degree.

Christopher is survived by his parents, Daphne and Lee Hallowell of Westport; three brothers, a sister and their spouses; Richard P. Hallowell III and Patti of Winchester, Mass., L. Hunter Hallowell Jr. and Pansy of Katonah, N.Y., Andrew W. Hallowell and Leslie of Lincoln, Mass., and Tifany H. Babcock and Toby of North Ferrisburg, Vt. He is also survived by nine nephews and three nieces.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002, at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church on Church Street in Essex, N.Y.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the LUNG TRANSPLANT PROGRAM, Massachusetts General Hospital, Fruit St., Boston, Mass. 02114.

Margaret Kennedy Hebert

PERU — Margaret Kennedy Hebert, 101, formerly of Peru, died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, at the Meadowbrook Nursing Home, Plattsburgh, where she had been a resident since Feb. 2, 1996.

She was born June 22, 1901, in Plattsburgh, the daughter of Leonard and Karen (Pray) Howard.

She enjoyed cooking, sewing and crocheting. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by three sons and three daughters-in-law, John and Maude Kennedy of Peru, Eugene and Caroline Kennedy of AuSable Forks, Richard and Janice Kennedy of Peru; three daughters and a son-in-law, Mary Ellen and Lloyd Burke of Virginia, Kay Coolidge of AuSable Forks and Nancy Kepner of Vermont; two step daughters, Muriel Grady of Lake Placid, Colleen and Thomas Nagowski of Plattsburgh; 23 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

Those that predeceased her were her first husband, Edgar Kennedy, and her second husband, Henry Hebert.

Calling hours will be Thursday, Dec. 26, 2002, 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. at the Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home, AuSable Forks. Funeral service will follow the calling hours at 12 noon at the funeral home with Rev. Virginia Pierce, officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the family plot at Peru Cemetery Inc.

Family request no flowers, memorials may be to a charity of ones choice.

Frank Nutt

Apple Valley, Calif. — C/Msgt. Frank Nutt, 81, retired Air Force, passed away at Loma Linda University Hospital on Dec. 10, 2002.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in July of 1940. He was commended for bravery under fire at Wheeler Field, Honolulu, Hawaii, on Dec. 7, 1941, during the attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese. He was with the 46th Pursuit, the 81st Fighter Group and the 95th Bomb Squadron Group of the B-17’s, as a belly gunner, in England, during World War II. Frank was an armament instructor at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. He was the winner of the Commandants Award, given for the highest degree of demonstrated leadership ability while at the NCO Academy.

Frank had a sister and three brothers who also served in World War II.

Frank is survived by his wife, Katherine T. of Apple Valley; his sons, Dudley and his wife Chloe of Paso Robles and Glen of Washington; granddaughter Gabrielle and grandson Michael Murphy Nutt of Washington; granddaughters Nicole and Holly Nutt and Savannah Schissel of Paso Robles; brother Glenn (Army Air Force Corps) and sister Phyllis Gokey of Rouses Point, N.Y. Frank is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. And Mrs. Frank Nutt Sr.; sisters, Grace Nutt (Army Nurse) and Laura Martin; and brothers, Robert (Air Force) and Pete (Navy).

He worked with the Apple Valley Sheriff’s Department senior citizens volunteer station. He was the national Historian for the Pearl Harbor survivors.

Burial services will take place in the spring at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Rouses Point, N.Y. with full military honors. Cremation was by Victor Valley Mortuary, who handled arrangements.

Inez Sanders

MORRISONVILLE/PERU — Inez Sanders, former Morrisonville and Peru resident and respected Plattsburgh business woman, passed on at the home of her daughter in Miami, Fla., Dec. 3, 2002.

She was born Feb. 18, 1907.

She and her husband, Curtis (deceased) owed and operated a general store in Peru, The Jackpot Motel and Peru Bottling Company in Plattsburgh.

She was very active in the republican party, served on the Peru Central School board and was active in community affairs.

Her living and those lives she touched made a positive difference. She was a pioneer for women.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan White of Miami; son, Thomas Sanders of Chateaugay Lake, N.Y.; sister, Ruth S. Grant of Liberty, N.Y.; grandsons, Kirk and Peter White of Miami, Curtis Sanders II and Gregory Sanders of Florida; nephew, Robert (Pat) Grant of Liberty, N.Y., Richard Grant of Alabama, Herbert (Kathy) Sanders of Albany, N.Y.; and niece, Shirley (John) Longware of Peru.

Hamilton Funeral Home of Peru will be handling arrangements, services are private.

Julia S. Hoskins

WILLSBORO — Julia S. Hoskins, 94, died Monday, Dec. 23, 2002 at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

She was born in Willsboro on April 14, 1908, the daughter of Seth and Ethelwyn (Dickerson) Stafford.

She was a lifelong member of the Willsboro Congregational Church of Christ where she belonged to the Women’s Fellowship.

In her younger years she was very active in church affairs and spent many hours working on church suppers. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and was loved by all who knew her.

She is survived by three children and their spouses, Vernon and Florence Hoskins and Patricia and Gordon (Gay) Young, all of Willsboro, and Bruce and Nona Hoskins of Westport; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Wesley, in 1977; sisters Hazel Blanchard and Calla Calkins; brothers Vaughan and Harold Stafford; granddaughter Kandy Pope; grandson Glen Young; and a great-grandson, Nathan Schreiber.

Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 26 at the Huestis Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at Congregational United Church of Christ at 11 a.m. on Friday. Burial will be in the spring in the Memorial Cemetery.
