Ione A. Barcomb

WEST CHAZY — Ione A. Barcomb, 82, of West Church St., West Chazy died Monday morning, Dec. 16, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center, surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Barcomb was born in Chazy on Oct. 18, 1920, the daughter of William and Eva (Martin) Brown.

She married Alexander M. Barcomb at Sacred Heart Church in Chazy in 1937. He predeceased her in 1999.

Mrs. Barcomb was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in West Chazy and a founding member of the West Chazy Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. She was employed at Pall Blade Co., in Plattsburgh, for eight years until the plant closed in the 1950’s. In 1957, Mrs. Barcomb began working in the cafeteria at Beekmantown Central School, retiring in 1973, as head cook.

Survivors include four sons, Armond Barcomb and his wife Kathryn and Steven Barcomb and his wife Carol, all of West Chazy, Jeffery Barcomb and his wife Cassandra of Sciota and Gary Barcomb and his wife Gisela of Cumberland Head; three daughters, Carolyn Cordero of El Centro, Calif., Marlene McCormick and her husband Howard of Morrisonville and Janice Reyell and her husband Richard of Beekmantown; three brothers, Kenneth Brown and his wife Nancy and Emile Brown and his wife Barbara, all of Schenectady and Herbert Brown of Albany; two sisters, Evelyn Dragon and her husband Richard and Beverly DeFreest and her husband Harold, all of Colonie; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

A son, Jerry Barcomb; four brothers; and one sister died earlier.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church.

Donations in her memory, may be made to the West Chazy Volunteer Fire Department or the Heart Fund.

Theresa Pray Dorr

Keeseville — Theresa Pray Dorr, 88, of the Highland Road, Keeseville, died peacefully Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002, at her home.

She was born in Peru, Oct. 26, 1914, the daughter of Houghton D. and Thurzy (Clark) Pray.

She married Paul "Jim" Russell Dorr, April 17, 1935, in Manchester, Vt.

Theresa spent most of her life as a loving wife and caring mother to her eight children prior to dedicating many years of service to the Keeseville United Methodist Church Thrift Shop. She was always known for her "down home" cooking and loved gardening for both enjoyment and sustenance during the long North Country winters. During the later years of her life she found great pleasure bird watching and playing bingo. She was a member of the Keeseville United Methodist Church, a former Ladies Auxiliary President of the Keeseville VFW Post 1505. She spent many hours with the Keeseville Senior Citizens and was the former secretary of the Port Douglas Cemetery Association.

Survivors include four sons and three daughters-in-law, Robert and Judy Dorr of Florida, Russell and Esther Dorr of Clintonville, George and Dianne Dorr, of Keeseville and Roger Dorr of Keeseville; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Mary Edna Mussen of Keeseville, Barbara Dorr of Albany, Madeline Dorr and George Stickle of Keeseville and Catherine and Tom Finnegan of Florida; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Doris and John Nolan of Keeseville and Rita Johnpeer of Keeseville; one sister-in-law, Joan Pray of Jay; many grandchildren, great- grandchildren, adopted grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; her stepmother, Gladys S. Pray; two brothers, Howard and Bert Pray; a son-in-law, Philip Mussen; a daughter-in-law, Frances Dorr; and one brother-in-law, Elmer Johnpeer.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at 11 a.m. at the Keeseville United Methodist Church with Rev. Sally White, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Port Douglas Cemetery.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Frances Downs Dorr Memorial Nursing Scholarship or the Keeseville United Methodist Church Thrift Shop Building Fund.

Arrangements are by the Hamilton Funeral Home.

Michael J. Jacques Sr.

AUSABLE FORKS — Michael J. Jacques Sr., 52, of Sawmill Drive, died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002, at his home.

He was born March 20, 1950, in Lake Placid, the son of Eugene and Shirley (Bigelow) Jacques.

Mike was employed for several years as a carpenter, working for Best Western Golden Arrow of Lake Placid.

He was a gentle giant, a loving person, excellent dad and loved to play video games. He loved his pets. Mike was a devoted husband and father. Once a friend always a friend.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Blaise Jacques of AuSable Forks, whom he married Jan. 8, 1994, in Lake Placid; five sons, Michael Jacques and Steven Jacques both of Chicago, Christopher Jacques of Maryland, Michael J. Jacques Jr. and Clifton Blaise both of AuSable Forks; a daughter, Michele Jacques of Lake Placid; a sister, Margaret Draper of Lake Placid; two brothers, Eugene Jacques of Chicago and Claude Jacques of California; give grandchildren; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home, AuSable Forks. Funeral services will be Wednesday, 10 a.m. at The Holy Name Catholic Church, AuSable Forks. Burial will be at a later date in the parish cemetery.

Memorials to Mike, may be made to the Humane Society of Westport or Humane Society of Saranac Lake.

Annis E. Tobin

Plattsburgh — Annis E. Tobin, 93, of Beekman Street, died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002, following a brief illness.

She will always be remembered for her cheerful ways and kindness and generosity she extended to her friends and family.

She was born on Dec. 13, 1909, in Cadyville, N.Y., the daughter of Charles and Susan (Darrah) Norcross.

Annis graduated from Cadyville High School in 1927 and was the only graduate. She graduated from Plattsburgh State Normal School in 1930 as a business teacher.

In 1940, she married Thomas J. Tobin of Cadyville. They were married 46 years and resided in Dannemora where they had many treasured lifelong friends. They later retired to Cadyville.

Mrs. Tobin was a secretary for many years with the Clinton County Health Department in Plattsburgh retiring in 1971. She was a member of the Dannemora United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and was financial secretary. She also served on many committees, Mrs. Tobin was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Survivors include one daughter, Carol Sacks of Norwich, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Joshua and Benjamin Sacks of Norwich, N.Y., Todd Sacks and his wife Carole of Coral Springs, Fla.; Gina Marie Costanzo and her husband John of Atlanta, Ga.; two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Aaron Sacks; several sisters-in-law, Marie, Verda, Mable and Claris Norcross, Betty Carter, Claudine Simonetta and Kay Simpson; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Tom Tobin, who died Nov. 25, 1986; one daughter, Judith Tobin; two sisters; Velma Jock and Doris Norcross; and five brothers, Carl, Gerald, Wallace, Ralph and Everest Norcross.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Cadyville Wesleyan Church, with Rev. Jeffrey Turcotte officiating. Burial will be at a later date in St. James Cemetery in Cadyville.

Annis happily resided at the Vilas Home for the past year where she made dear friends among the residents and staff. The family requests in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Vilas

Home Memorial Fund for resident activities and special needs.

Sandra E. Dresser

North Hudson — Sandra E. Dresser, 54, of 3105 U.S. Route 9, went to join her maker early Sunday morning, Dec. 15, 2002, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, N.Y., after an extended illness.

Sandra was born Jan. 14, 1948, in Moriah Center, N.Y., the daughter of Walter and Marquerite Mihill Malbon.

Sandra was a resident of North Hudson for the past 29 years. She enjoyed gardening, arts and crafts and she loved to fish. She was the dispatcher for the North Hudson Volunteer Fire Department for 10 years.

Sandra was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Lillie Bezio of Broadalbin.

Survivors include her husband of 29 years, Donald F. Dresser of North Hudson; her daughter, Robin Dresser and her special friend, Dwayne O’Leary of Germantown; her granddaughter Racheal of Germantown; one brother, Rowan and his wife Joanne Malbon of Mineville; three sisters, Mrs. David "Barbara" smith of Port Henry, Mrs. Neil "Kathie" Rancour of Moriah; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday morning at 10 a.m. at the Edward L. Kelley Funeral Home, Schroon Lake. Interment will follow at the Schroon River Cemetery, North Hudson.

Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday, 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Pall bearers will be Todd Malbon, Scott Malbon, Robert Bezio, Walter Dever, Neil Rancour and Glenn Fiore.

The family asks their friend to join them at the North Hudson Fire House following the services.

It is suggested that memorials take the form of donations to the FitzPatrick Cancer Center, 75 Beekman St., Plattsburgh, NY 12901.

GEORGE F. GOKEY, 94, of the Alice Hyde Nursing Home and formerly of Raymond Street, Malone, died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002, at the nursing home.

He was born Aug. 26, 1908, in Malone, N.Y., the son of George and Mary (Monette) Gokey.

Calling hours will be Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the St. Mary-Murphy Funeral Home chapel. A funeral service will be held Friday, Dec. 20, 2002, at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Spring burial will take place in Notre Dame Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are through St. Mary-Murphy Funeral Home, Inc.

Elinor Mae Carpenter, 86, of Lakeview Towers, Plattsburgh, died on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

She was born in Plattsburgh on June 16, 1916, daughter of Herbert J. and Mable B. (Jabot) Holt.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, at 11 a.m. from Brown Funeral Home Chapel in Plattsburgh with Rev. Roger White, pastor of Morrisonville Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be next year in Schuyler Falls Cemetery.
