Helen I. Zydik

Witherbee, N.Y. — Helen I. Zydik, 76, of Witherbee, N.Y., died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, at the Community Hospital in Elizabethtown, N.Y.

She was born on July 11, 1926, at Witherbee, the daughter of Frank and Anna (Putko) Zydik and was a life long resident of Witherbee, N.Y.

She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Genevieve and George Rotella of Plattsburgh; her brother-in-law, Martin Bezon of Port Henry; her sister-in-law, Lucile Zydik of Denver, Colo.; her nieces and nephew, Rose Rotella of Plattsburgh, Tina LaVigne of Moriah, Debra Niles of Florida, Martin Bezon Jr. of Syracuse and Jean Rotella of Lockport, N.Y.; and several great-nieces and nephews.

Beside her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Betty Bezon; and her brothers, John Zydik and Walter Zydik.

Calling hours will be held Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Harland Funeral Home, Port Henry. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, at the Church of All Saints, Mineville, N.Y., with Rev. Michael Toth officiating. Burial will be in St Peter & Paul Cemetery, Moriah, N.Y.

Memorial donations in Helen’s memory may be made to High Peaks Hospice, PO Box 195, Mineville, NY 12956.

Sylvia Jerdo

Willsboro, NY — Sylvia Jerdo, 71, died at CVPH Medical Center on Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, after a long illness.

She was born in Monkton, Vt., on June 7, 1931, the daughter of Homer and Winfred (Gifford) Estus.

She is survived by her husband John, whom she married Aug. 6, 1949. She is also survived by a son and daughter-in-law, John A. and Florence Jerdo of Keeseville; a daughter, Althea LaDieu of Morrisonville; 12 grandchildren, Sherri Jerdo, John and wife Whitney Jerdo, James Jerdo, Nicole Jerdo, Crystal Jaquish, Tiffany, Ginger, Benjamin, Cameron LaDieu, Julie Rabideau, Jamie Taylor and Richard Ladieu Jr.; seven great - grandchildren, Christopher Jerdo, Richard Mason, Hilarie LaDieu, Bailey LaDieu, Nick Hatfield, Brandon Burich and Taylor Jaquish. Brothers and their wives Homer and Joyce Estus and Earl and Mary Estus; sisters-in-law Rita Estus and Ailene Pierce; as well as numerous nieces and nephews also survive her.

Her parents and brothers Arnold and Barney Estus predeceased her.

She was a teacher's aide at the Willsboro Central School for over 20 years; at one time she was active in both the Boy Scouts and the Girl Scouts. She belonged to the Church Ladies Auxiliary, sang in the choir and was very active in church affairs. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren; she also loved playing bingo and camping and shopping.

Calling hours will be held 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, at the Huestis Funeral Home in Willsboro. Funeral services will be held at the Essex Community United Methodist Church on Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, at 11 a.m. Burial in New Burt Cemetery will be held in the spring.

The family has requested that rather than flowers in her memory, donations be made to either the Essex Rescue Squad or the Willsboro Rescue Squad c/o Carol Dickerson, 404 No. Reber Rd., Willsboro, NY 12996 or the Essex Community Church.

Walter (Wally) Carl King

San Antonio, Texas — Wally suffered a fatal heart attack on Aug. 9, 2002, in San Antonio, Texas.

He was born on Dec. 4, 1938, in Altona, N.Y., to David J. King Jr. and Christina L. (Bromley) King.

Wally attended school in Altona and at Our Lady of Victory Academy in Plattsburgh, from which he graduated.

Wally then served two years in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1965.

Before leaving this area in 1979, he served several years with the City of Plattsburgh Police Department.

After cremation, Wally was given a military honors burial at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas.

Wally was predeceased by his father on Jan. 26, 1975; his mother on Oct. 2, 1979 and a son, Kevin, in 2001.

Wally is survived by a son, Sean and a daughter, Jennifer of San Antonio, Texas; two sisters, Mrs. Alice J. (King) and Mr. Bernard E. Perry Sr., Chazy, N.Y., and Mrs. Martha J. (King) and Robert Dickinson of Oakfield, Maine; three brothers, Delbert D. and Jeannette King of Bloomington, Ill., and Venice, Fla., Wayne G. and Paulletta King of Columbia, Mo., and Donald E. and Sarah King of Kittery, Maine. Also surviving are eight nieces, nine nephews and several cousins.

Paul L. Rabatoy, 89, of 1178 Cook St., Dannemora, died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center.

He was born in Port Henry on April 6, 1913, the son of Peter and Estella (Hunter) Rabatoy.

Calling hours will be held Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home.

Members of the Knights of Columbus are asked to meet at 8 p.m. for a wake service. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church in Dannemora, followed by entombment in Whispering Maples Mausoleum in Plattsburgh.
