Louis F. (Jim) Smith

Moriah, N.Y. — Louis F. (Jim) Smith, 82, of Mutton Hollow Road, Moriah, passed away Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, at the Elizabethtown Community Hospital. He had been suffering with chronic emphysema and lung cancer.

He was born on Sept. 30, 1920, the son of Louis Doxie and Katherine (James) Smith.

He served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Force as a crew member of the B-29 "Bout Average" in the South Pacific during World War II.

He worked as a plumber and electrician in the town of Moriah for over 50 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

He was predeceased by his wife, Berneitta Davis Smith; and his sisters, Hilda Pepper and Anita Hammond.

He is survived by his sisters, Golda Jacobs and Daisy Munson; his children, Barbara Way, Patricia, James Peter and Mark Smith; his grandchildren, Donald, John and Nicolas Way, Benjamin, Catherine, Nathan, Megan and Tyler Smith; and a great-grandchild, Joshua Way.

There will be no calling hours or funeral service at this time.

Helen G. LaPlante

Cadyville — Helen G. LaPlante, 77, of Route 374 in Cadyville, died on Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born in Port Kent on Jan. 30, 1925, the daughter of Frank and Maryjane (Marvin) Wemette.

Helen had been employed by Claire and Carl's, Fisherman's and Ma Coakley's restaurants in Plattsburgh. She belonged to St. James Minor Church in Cadyville. Helen was a devoted mother and grandmother and enjoyed cooking and baking.

Helen is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mary E. and Kim K. Provost of Cadyville; her son and daughter-in-law, John and Kris LaPlante of West Chazy; a twin brother and sister-in-law, Herbert and Brenda Wemette of Keeseville; her grandchildren, Melissa Kusalonis, Jessica LaPlante, Johnny LaPlante, Amanda LaPlante, Sierra Pepin, Dalton LaPlante, Adam Porter, Tasha Porter and Brooke Porter; one great-grandson, Trenton Snyder; and several nieces, nephews and cousins, including a special niece, Janice McCulloch.

Helen was predeceased by her husband, Walter G. LaPlante and her son, Walter F. LaPlante.

Calling hours will be Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday, Nov. 11, 2002, at 11 a.m. from St. James Minor Church in Cadyville. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery in Plattsburgh.

In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make donations in her memory to the American Diabetes Association or American Heart Association.

Beulah M. Link

Medford, N.J. — Beulah (Meyer) Link of Medford, N.J., formerly of Plattsburgh, N.Y., died Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, at her residence. She was 89.

Mrs. Link was born in Wisner, Neb. She was a teacher in Peru, N.Y., for 12 years. She was a member of the New York State Teachers Association and the Delta Kappa Gamma Honorary Society.

Mrs. Link was the wife of Eugene P. Link. She was the mother of Martha T. Casey (Charles) of Madison, Wis., E. Perry of Princeton, N.J., and Bruce G. (Jo) of New York City; and four grandchildren. She was the sister of Glen Meyer of Wisner, Neb.

A memorial service will be held in Medford, N.J.

Helen "Nellie" Boevin, 89, formerly of New Street, Lake Placid, died on Nov. 8, 2002, at Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid.

She was born in Malone, N.Y., on Jan. 29, 1913, the daughter of John and Flora (Symonds) King.

Friends may call Sunday, Nov. 10th, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid. A Bible vigil service will be held at 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Monday, Nov. 11th, at noon at the Uihlein Mercy Center Chapel. Rev. Patrick O'Reilly will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery in Lake Placid.
