Rev. Paul W. Beauregard

Tewksbury, Mass. — Rev. Paul W. Beauregard, OMI, died Thursday morning, Oct. 24, 2002, at the Oblate Residence in Tewksbury, Mass., following an extended illness. He was 68 and had been an Oblate priest for more than 40 years.

Fr. Beauregard was a native of Lowell, Mass., the son of the late Oscar and Cecile (Asselin) Beauregard. After attending local elementary schools, he began his Oblate life at St. Joseph's Junior Seminary in Bucksport, Maine, in 1949. He received an associates degree from Oblate College in Bar Harbor, Maine, and his bachelor of arts in philosophy from Oblate College in Natick, Mass. He completed his theological studies in Natick, earning a masters degree in theology and pronounced his perpetual vows there in 1959.

He was ordained to the priesthood on June 21, 1961, in St. Augustine Church in Augusta, Maine, by the Most Rev. Louis Collignon, OMI, bishop of Les Cayes, Haiti, and spent the next year doing pastoral studies in Washington, D.C.

Fr. Paul began his activity ministry at St. Jean Baptiste Church in Lowell as a parochial vicar. He served in the same role at St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh, N.Y., on three separate occasions, at St. Margaret’s and Notre Dame de Lourdes churches in Lowell and returned to St. Jean Baptiste in 1983 for a second time.

Much of his ministry was as chaplain at St. Joseph's Hospital and D'Youville Manor Nursing Home in Lowell and in Augusta. He also worked with those dealing with addiction to drugs.

He was pastor of Ste. Marie parish in South Lowell from 1990 to 1996 and was instrumental in the implementation of the union of Ste. Marie and Sacred Heart parishes under the same pastor.

After leaving Ste. Marie, he continued to serve the people of Lowell by assisting at parishes and hospitals and St. Joseph's Shrine, whenever his health permitted. In March of this year his health forced him to move to the Oblate Infirmary in Tewksbury, where he died.

Fr. Beauregard is survived by his brother Raymond and his wife Jeannine of Lowell and nieces Lise and her husband John Linehan of Hudson, N.H., Johanne Knowlton of Amesbury, Mass., Marc Beauregard of Dracut, Mass., Claudine Beauregard of Palm Harbor, Fla., and Daniel and his wife Ana Beauregard of Dracut, Mass. Fr. Beauregard is also survived by grandnephews Michael and Timothy Linehan of Hudson, N.H., and Justin and Jesse Knowlton of Amesbury, Mass. He was the brother of the late Marguerite Bailly, who died in 2000.
