James E. Chauvin

Beekmantown — James E. Chauvin, 80, of the Military Turnpike, died Friday, Oct. 18, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center.

He was born in Beekmantown on Sept. 30, 1922, the son of James G. and Irene (Kirby) Chauvin.

Mr. Chauvin was a member of St. Peter's Church.

He operated the family farm with his brother William until 1972. He worked for E.S. Mason & Son for 19 years, retiring in 1968 and later he worked for the Clinton County Highway Department for over 14 years, retiring in 1985.

Survivors include two daughters, Ann Chauvin and Donna Caramia and her husband Thomas, all of Plattsburgh; three brothers, Donald Chauvin and his wife Dorothy of Plattsburgh, Gerald Chauvin and his wife Phyllis of Cape Coral, Fla., and William Chauvin of Beekmantown; one sister-in-law, Bridget Chauvin of Morrisonville; two granddaughters, Sierra Rae and Marina Lee Caramia; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by one sister, Catherine Chauvin; and two brothers, Harold and Bernard Chauvin.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Peter's Church. Entombment will follow in Whispering Maples Memorial Gardens, Tom Miller Road, Plattsburgh.

Memorial donations may be made to the Heart Association in his memory.

Jacob R. Tolosky

Dannemora — Jacob R. "Jake" Tolosky, 78, of Dannemora, died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, at the Meadowbrook Healthcare Facility in Plattsburgh.

He was born in Dannemora on Oct. 14, 1924, the son of Jacob J. and Eva (Ryan) Tolosky.

He served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps in Europe during World War II. He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 11 years and was later employed as a lieutenant at Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora for 32 years. He was a member of the Dannemora American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce (Ryan) Tolosky of Dannemora; two daughters and a son-in-law, Susan and Reginald Carter of New Albany, Ohio, and Sister Rosemary (Nancy) Tolosky of Hawthorne, N.Y.; a brother-in-law, James Ryan and his companion Shirley Wood of Plattsburgh; two sisters-in-law, Maria Tolosky of Beulah, N.D., and Amy Tolosky of Baltimore, Vt.; two grandchildren, Kevin and Megan Carter; and his nephews, Bernard Tolosky of Beulah, N.D., Jacob Bonar of Scottsdale, N.Y., Richard Bonar of Claremont, Calif., and John Tolosky of Baltimore, Vt.

His parents; his stepmother Edith (Rabideau) Tolosky; two brothers, James and Anthony Tolosky; and a sister, Mary Bonar, all died earlier.

There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday from St. Joseph's Church in Dannemora. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.

The O'Neill - Redden - Drown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh is in charge of arrangements.

Alice M. (Ratta) Smith

DeBary, Fla. — Alice M. Smith, 79, formerly of Plattsburgh, raised on the Ratta Road in Chazy, died Monday, Oct. 7, 2002, after a long illness.

She is survived by her two brothers, Joe Ratta of Chazy and Henry Ratta of Plattsburgh; her only child, Diane Wheeler of DeBary, Fla.; by her two granddaughters, Tammy Forget of Irish Settlement Road, Plattsburgh and Kim Wells of Wellington, Fla.; and by her two great-granddaughters, Leah Forget and Courtney Wells.

Alice was predeceased by her twin sister, Elsa Rivers, in December 2001.

Alice traveled between New York and Florida for several years. She was an avid bowler, billiard player and enjoyed deep sea fishing.

Alice and her former husband, Floyd Smith, established and ran the Isle View Motel on the Lake Shore Road, Plattsburgh.

A memorial service will be held at St. Juliana's Church, West Palm Beach, Fla., on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002, at noon.

Paul W. Remchuk

Hornell, N.Y. — Paul W. Remchuk, 88, formerly of 6331 Honey Run Rd., Hornell, passed away Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002, at the Hornell Gardens.

He was born June 10, 1914, in Baltimore, a son of Wasyl and Anastasia (Juzkiw) Remchuk.

Paul married the former Sarah Louella (Jones) Remchuk, who survives.

Paul had worked for many area car dealers as a mechanic and retired from the City of Hornell as a mechanic in 1972. He was a life member of the Hornell Moose Lodge 210 and the Canisteo American Legion Post 846, where he was awarded a 50-year membership. He was also a member of the Hornell Elks Club and former member of the Hornell Eagles.

Paul was predeceased by four brothers, John, Michael, Peter and Joseph Remchuk; as well as a granddaughter, Paula Remchuk.

In addition to his wife Sarah Louella Remchuk, he is survived by one daughter, Bonnie (James) Dunn of Milan, Ill.; two sons, James (Audrey) Remchuk of Hornell and Robert (Judy) Remchuk of West Chazy; two sisters, Anna O’Brochta of Bath and Mary Tomchik of Pennsylvania; three brothers, Daniel Remchuk of Florida, Stephen Remchuk of Michigan and Lewis Remchuk of Addison; seven grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will be present on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St., Hornell. A Moose service will be held during calling hours on Sunday at 8 p.m. Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Canisteo.

Morton T. McDonald, 81, of Ticonderoga, passed away Friday, Oct. 18, 2002, at the Moses-Ludington Hospital of Ticonderoga.

He was born Aug. 14, 1921, in Ticonderoga, N.Y.

Calling hours will be Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home, Ticonderoga. A funeral service will take place Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Ticonderoga. The Rite of Committal will take place at the family plot of St. Mary's Parish Cemetery of Ticonderoga at a later date.
