Published: 10/15/02Ann Sharon DurkinSaranac Inn — Ann Sharon Durkin, 57, of Saranac Inn, died Sunday, Oct. 13, 2002, at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. She was born in Troy, N.Y., on Sept. 7, 1945. Mrs. Durkin was a graduate of Schuylerville High School and was a 1967 graduate of Plattsburgh State College with a bachelors and masters in elementary education. She taught for three years at Camden Elementary and moved to the Saranac Lake area in 1970. She taught at the Lake Clear School from 1971 until 1974 and at Bloomingdale School from 1974 until July 1, 2001, when she retired. Mrs. Durkin enjoyed reading and writing, puzzles and crossword puzzles. She was a communicant of St. John's Church, Lake Clear. She was a devoted teacher and loved her home, her family and her pets. She is survived by her husband, Philip Durkin, whom she married Dec. 18, 1965; her mother, Eva Cromie of Schuylerville, N.Y.; two daughters, Laura Highsmith and her husband Selby of Jewett City, Conn., and Melissa Durkin and husband Darren Markus of San Jose, Calif.; a son, Michael Durkin of Pottstown, Pa.; six grandchildren, Johnathan, Kristen and Darian Durkin and Brandon, Jordan and Cameron LaMay; two sisters, Lois Minor of Schuylerville and Dawn Anderson of South Glens Falls; a brother, William Cromie of Bechtelsville, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at Fortune - Keough Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. A Bible vigil will be held at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at St. John's Church, Lake Clear, with Thomas Kornmeyer officiating. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery Lake Clear. Friends wishing to remember Mrs. Durkin may make memorial contributions to the Tri-Lakes Humane Society of Saranac Lake Free Library in care of the funeral home. Clifford F. MousseauPLATTSBURGH — Clifford F. Mousseau, 85, of Salmon River Road, died Sunday, Oct. 13, 2002, at Clinton County Nursing Home in Plattsburgh. He was born in Plattsburgh on Nov. 25, 1916, son of the late Francis and Lorena (Newell) Mousseau. Clifford had attended St. Peter’s School. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Air Force. He had been employed by D and H Railroad for 17 years and then Georgia Pacific Paper Mill, retiring from there in 1980. Clifford was a member of American Legion Post 1619 in West Plattsburgh, the Keeseville Lodge of Elks 2072, Knights of Columbus Council 7248 in Treadwells Mill and a member of St. Augustine’s Church in Peru. Clifford is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary F. and Cathy Mousseau of Athens, N.Y., and Denis C. and Shannon M. Mousseau of Peru; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Jack Baker of Morrisville and Tammy and William Upton of Chazy; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Frank and Barbara Mousseau of Florida and Barney and Roseanne Mousseau of Elizabethtown; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Winifred and James Wilson of Auburn and Jane and William Miner of Plattsburgh; eight grandchildren, Cherie, Mark, Shawn, Chad, Corey, Derick, Michael and Ryan; two great grandchildren, Felix and Jaden; and several nieces and nephews. Clifford was predeceased by two sons, Mark Mousseau and Todd Mousseau; his wife, Florence Mousseau; three brothers, Walter Mousseau, Arnold Mousseau and Marvin Mousseau. Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15th, at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. Members of the Knights of Columbus will meet 7:30 Tuesday evening for services. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 10 a.m. from St. Augustine’s Church in Peru. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Harold J. ThomasPlattsburgh — Harold J. Thomas, 61, of the Salmon River Road, passed away Sunday, Oct. 13, 2002, at his home surrounded by his family under the care of Hospice. He was born in Plattsburgh on April 29, 1941, son of Eldridge and Ethel Thomas. Harold had been employed by the Town of Peru Highway Department, retiring in 1995 and was a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Saratoga Springs. He enjoyed camping, fishing and NASCAR. Harold is survived by his wife of 40 years, Elizabeth Thomas of Plattsburgh; his children, Timothy and Elaine Delaney of Morrisonville, Cathy Davies of Plattsburgh, Sally and Luke Fournier of AuSable Forks, Cindy and Ralph Martineau of Plattsburgh and Doreen and Terry St. Germaine of Plattsburgh; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Shirley Depo of Peru, Gerald and Debbie Thomas of Pennsylvania, James and Carmen Thomas of Peru, Bonnie Atkinson of Potsdam, Louis and Ruthie Thomas of Saratoga and Walter and Marlene Thomas of Peru; honorary brother and sister, William and Bev Morris of Greenfield Center; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will be held Wednesday evening at 8 p.m. from Brown Funeral Home Chapel in Plattsburgh. Donations in his memory may be made to Hospice of the North Country. Harold will be loved and missed by all. Harold A. Lashway Sr.Plattsburgh — Harold A. Lashway Sr., 71, died Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center. He was born in Ellenburg on April 4, 1931, the son of Floyd and Clara (Dominic) Lashway. Survivors include two sons, Harold A. Lashway Jr. of Berlin, N.Y., and Donald J. Lashway of Troy, N.Y.; four daughters, Star Ann Lashway of Averill Park, N.Y., Nancy Fearnley and her husband Richard of Berlin, N.Y., Rita Hart and her husband David of Ft. Plain, N.Y., and Doris Jourdanais and her husband Richard of Cohoes, N.Y.; his companion of many years, Betty Finnegan of Plattsburgh; 24 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dale J. Lashway and his wife Beverly of Willsboro, N.Y., and Lee F. Lashway of Riverdale, Md.; ten sisters, Rita Hart and her husband Frank of Mason, Ohio, Doris Viens of Casco, Maine, Monica Laverdure of Berlin, Mass., Donna Cooney and her husband Jack of Mason, Ohio, Shirley Arcet of Plattsburgh, Carol Kohs of San Bernadino, Calif., Ada Gromada and her husband Edward of Ocala, Fla., Patricia Pheasant and her husband Paul of Berwyn Heights, Md., Faye Lashway of Plattsburgh and Sandra Fennyery of Troy, N.Y. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret M. Lashway, in 1981. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 2 to 3 p.m., with the funeral to follow at 3 p.m., with Msgr Joseph Aubin officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Olivia Bertha KnollRoslyn Heights, N.Y. — Olivia (Lee) Knoll, 98, of Roslyn Heights, N.Y., died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, at Meadowbrook Healthcare Center, Plattsburgh. She was born on Aug. 29, 1904, the daughter of Emil and Martha Knoll. She was the sister of Willsboro summer residents Alma and Erwin Hale. She is survived by a nephew and his wife, Bruce and Darcey Hale of Willsboro and their children, Bryan and Skip Hale and Philip, Christopher, Andrew and Mark Hall; by her niece and her husband, Shirley and James Fuller of Hancock, N.H., and their children, James and Douglas Fuller and Deborah Lamm; and by six great-great-nieces and nephews. Lee was the office manager for Wheatley Gardens, a large florist, for 35 years. Flowers and gardens were both her vocation and avocation. She tended her own greenhouse and gardens with loving care from 1924, when she moved into her Roslyn home, until September of this year. Funeral services will be held on Oct. 19th in the Searing-Roslyn United Methodist Church in Albertson, N.Y., and burial will be in the Roslyn Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Searing-Roslyn United Methodist Church, 134 I.U. Willets Rd., Albertson, NY 11507. Raymond Relation, 87, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, at the Clinton County Nursing Home. He was born on Sept. 4, 1915, in West Chazy, the son of Napoleon and Louise (LaPierre) Relation. Calling hours at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home will be on Wednesday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian burial at St. Joseph's Church in West Chazy, N.Y., at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Emerson Grimshaw, 60, of Champlain passed away Sunday, Oct. 13, 2002, in Champlain. Calling hours will be Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home in Champlain. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. from St. Mary's Church in Champlain. |
