John Strayer

Champlain — John Strayer, 68, of Church Street in Champlain, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, at his home.

He was born in Waterloo, N.Y., on April 20, 1934, the son of the late George and Emma Strayer.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1954. After being discharged, he worked for Georgia Pacific Company, retiring after 31 years. His favorite pastimes were fishing and playing with his grandchildren.

He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Kathy Coupal of Champlain and Karen Underwood and her husband David of Mooers Forks; one son, Jon Strayer of Champlain; five sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law, Sidnee and Wayne Garrow of Peru, Jane and Reginald Mayo of Rouses Point, Lucy Mayo of Champlain, Marie Mayo of Champlain and Veleta Parrish of AuSable; four grandchildren, Jenny Strayer of Rouses Point, Kyle Coupal of Champlain and Morgan and Shelby Underwood of Mooers Forks.

Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his wife Beulah (Mayo) Strayer.

There will be no calling hours. A funeral will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Champlain.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the North Country.

Arrangements are with the Clark Funeral Home in Champlain.

Florence E. Covel

Schuyler Falls — Florence E. Covel, 70, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, at her residence on the Salmon River Road, under the care of her family and Hospice.

She was born in Plattsburgh on Dec. 8, 1931, the daughter of Henry and Delia (Provost) Daniels.

She worked for Headstart as a daycare provider in Plattsburgh for many years, known to all as "Grandma Flo."

She liked to work with children and also enjoyed her crocheting, cooking and riding in the car.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Covel; two sons, Anthony Arena of Northway Trailer Parkway and Robert Dean and his wife Lori of Hudson Falls; one daughter, Rose Covel and her companion Ralph Dapo of Valeway Trailer Park; seven grandchildren, Billie Jo Dapo, Trisha Covel, Tara Covel, Tina, Shari and Lisa Arena and Ricky Walker; and one great - granddaughter; five sisters and four brother-in-laws, Mary and Wayne LaGoy of Morrisonville, Virginia Daniels and Betty Ann and Harold Benjamin of Plattsburgh, Jean and Victor Desrocher and Leona and Ken Edwards of Tennessee; one sister-in-law, Marie Daniels of Morrisonville; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Friday, Oct. 11, 2002, at noon to 2 p.m. from the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. from the funeral home with the Rev. William Reamer officiating. Burial will follow in the Peasleeville Cemetery.

Donations in her memory may be made to Hospice of the North Country.

Marian "Dianne" Kolenc

Plattsburgh — Marian "Dianne" Kolenc, 64, of Tammy Lane, passed away Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center.

She was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., on April 7, 1938, the daughter of David G. and Grace (LaBombard) Robare.

Dianne had worked for State Bank of Albany, Norstar Bank and retired from Fleet Bank in 1996 after 33 years of service.

She was predeceased by her parents, David G. and Grace Robare; a sister, Joanne Meinhart; and two brothers, Donald Robare and Norman J. Robare.

Dianne is survived by a daughter, Susan M. Kolenc of Plattsburgh; a brother, Robert D. Robare of Plattsburgh; and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, at 10 a.m. at the Brown Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. William G. Reamer, chaplain at CVPH Medical Center, officiating.

Friends wishing may make donations to the FitzPatrick Cancer Center or the Skilled Nursing Unit at CVPH Medical Center.

Yasuko M. Marlowe, 79, of Bean Road, Malone, N.Y., died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, at CVPH Medical Center.

She was born on June 4, 1923, in Japan, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Masubuchi.

Calling hours will be Friday, Oct. 11, 2002, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in St. Mary-Murphy Funeral Home chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will take place in Notre Dame Cemetery.
