Published:10/08/02Joanne W. StaffordPeru — Joanne W. Stafford, 49, of the Union Road, Peru, died Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, following a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Albany on May 25, 1953, the daughter of Nelson J. and Henrietta P. (Peters) Williams. Joanne graduated from Bethlehem Central School in Delmar in June of 1971 and received an associate's degree in May 1973 from SUNY Cobleskill. She married Allan L. Stafford on Sept. 28, 1974, at St. Paul's Church in Albany. She was Town Clerk and Tax Collector for the Town of Peru. Mrs. Stafford was a member of the Peru Community Church and Ladies Guild, a member of the Peru Town Board, a director on the Clinton County Fair Board and a leader with the Whispering Pines 4-H Club. Survivors include her husband, Allan L. Stafford of Peru; two sons, John N. Stafford of SUNY Cobleskill and Michael L. Stafford of Peru; her mother, Henrietta "Pat" Williams of Peru; her mother-in-law, Muriel Stafford; two brothers-in-law and their spouses, James and Judy Stafford of Texas and David and Caroline Stafford of South Dakota; and five nieces. Her father, Nelson J. Williams in 1982; her aunt, Jane E. Williams; grandparents Mr. and Mrs. David J. Williams and Mr. and Mrs. John G. Peters Sr.; her uncle, John G. Peters Jr.; and her father-in-law, Richard Stafford, predeceased her. A memorial service will be held Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, at 4 p.m. at St. Augustine's Church in Peru with the Rev. Robert Svenson, associate pastor of the Peru Community Church, officiating and Rev. Kenneth Parker, pastor of the Peru Community Church, assisting. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to CVPH Medical Center, c/o Janice Hess, FitzPatrick Cancer Center, 75 Beekman St., Plattsburgh, NY 12901. Arrangements are by the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru. Esther M. RobertsLincoln, Neb. — Esther M. Roberts, 91, of Lincoln, Neb., and formerly of Plattsburgh, N.Y., died Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002, in Lincoln. She was born in West Bolton, Vt., on Aug. 4, 1911. Esther moved to Lincoln in 1988 to be close to her daughter. She was the former chef at the Montpelier Tavern Hotel in Montpelier, Vt. She helped with the family farm and enjoyed cards and sewing. Esther is survived by a daughter, Elsie Brumagen of Lincoln, Neb.; a daughter-in-law, Susan Roberts of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; a sister, Elsie Tadejewski of Waterbury, Vt.; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Esther was predeceased by her husband, Hugh Roberts Sr.; her son, Hugh Roberts Jr.; and a grandson, Eric Roberts. A memorial service was held on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002, in Lincoln, Neb. Calling hours will be Tuesday evening, Oct. 8, 2002, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh, A funeral service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, at 11 a.m. from Brown Funeral Home Chapel in Plattsburgh with Pastor Tracy Golas, pastor of the Saranac United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Middlesex Center Cemetery in Middlesex Center, Vt. Heather Iris (Bender) PatenaudeChamplain — Heather Iris (Bender) Patenaude, 57, of Champlain, passed away at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh after a long battle with cancer. Heather was born in Montreal, Canada, on Feb. 20, 1945. She was raised on the South Shore of St. Lambert. Heather graduated from the St. Lambert’s Girls Convent in 1962 and Ratcliff School of Cosmetology. She was a charter member and past Matron of Golden Chain Chapter 20, Order of the Eastern Star in Bad Kreauznach, Germany. Heather was also a long time employee of Key Bank, mainly working at the Rouses Point branch. She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Richard, of Champlain, N.Y.; one daughter, Trina Patenaude and her fiancé, Granville Martin of Wappingers Falls, N.Y.; one son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Sharon Patenaude of Brunswick, N.Y., a sister-in-law, Ruth Samia of Natick, Mass., one brother-in-law and his wife, William and Jan Patenaude of Laurel, Mont.; five grandsons, Ryan, John, Christopher, Colin and Cody; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002, at the Clark Funeral Home in Rouses Point, N.Y., from 2 to 5 and 6 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, at St. Mary's Church in Champlain, N.Y. Geraldine May Darby LaPorteMooers — Geraldine May Darby LaPorte, 77, of the North Star Road, Mooers, died Monday, Oct. 7, 2002 at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh after a long illness. Gerry was born at Point au Roche on July 8, 1925, the daughter of Winfield and Maude (Clark) Darby. She attended the one room schools at Point au Roche. When she moved to Mooers, she was employed by True Stitch Slipper Factory and then went to work for Packaging Corp. in Plattsburgh, retiring after 21 years. Gerry was a member of the Mooers Methodist Church, the Good Fellowship Club, the Penny Bingo Club of West Chazy and a volunteer for the Clinton County Senior Citizens. She was very active until her hospitalization in January of 2002. While hospitalized, she was so grateful for the care the R5 staff and Dietary gave her and thankful for the prayers, gifts and visits of her many friends. She is survived by a niece, Betty Soper of Beekmantown; and nephew, Philip Morse of Belleview, Fla.; and several cousins. She was predeceased by her mother and father; two brothers, Donald Darby of Plattsburgh and Howard Darby of Chico, Calif.; and a sister, Dorothy Morse of Plattsburgh. At her request, there will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will take place at the Point au Roche cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Mooers Fire Department. The E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Mooers is in charge of arrangements. Beverly M. NorthrupPlattsburgh — Beverly M. Northrup, 80, of Cumberland Avenue, died Monday, Oct. 7, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center. She was born in Youngstown, Ohio, on Sept. 11, 1922, the daughter of Samuel W. Rice II and Violet (McElligott) Rice. Mrs. Northrup was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years. Beverly married Robert Northrup on Oct. 26, 1940, in Chicago, Ill. Mrs. Northrup was a dental assistant for Dr. Neal R. Fee for about ten years. Survivors include her husband Robert of Plattsburgh; one son and daughter-in-law, William C. and Debbie Northrup of Swanton, Vt.; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Samuel W. and Jeannine Rice of Chazy Landing and William Rice of Plattsburgh; one sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Robert Stegner of Pittsfield, Mass.; two grandchildren, Chad Northrup and his wife Katie of Framingham, Mass., and Bridgitt Northrup of Swanton, Vt.. and St. Lawrence University; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Robert Northrup Jr., on Sept. 11, 1960. Calling hours will be private and at the convenience of the family. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, at 11 p.m. at the Trinity Episcopal Church with Rev. John T. Sorensen, pastor, conducting the services. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery. Richard C. BurpeeEustis, Fla. — Richard C. Burpee, 72, of Eustis, Fla., and Elizabethtown, N.Y., died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002, at his home in Eustis, Fla., while under the loving care of family, friends and Hospice. He was born Jan. 30, 1930, in Elizabethtown, N.Y., the son of Cecil and Marion (Laraby) Burpee. He served in the U.S. Army, retired from New York Telephone Company and had made his home in Eustis, Fla., for the past 14 years. He was a long time member of the Elizabethtown Volunteer Fire Company, former town justice of Elizabethtown, N.Y., and former member of the Elizabethtown Kiwanas Club. He was also a founding member of the Elizabethtown Ambulance Squad. He was predeceased by his wife, Jane (Merrow, Hathaway) Burpee. He is survived by five daughters, Nancy Hurteau of Bloomington, N.Y., Kim Hathaway of Elizabethtown, N.Y., Judy Doyle of New Russia, N.Y., Robin Rumsey of Bronson, Mich., and JoAnn Leggett of LaGrane, Ind.; one son, Neal Burpee of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; two stepchildren, Maureen Thomas of Lewis, N.Y., and Lee (Bucky) Hathaway of Elizabethtown, N.Y.; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Francis "Frank" DoyleBrandon, Vt. — Francis "Frank" Doyle, 74, died Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002, at his home in Brandon, Vt. Mr. Doyle was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., on Nov. 20, 1927. He was the son of Lawrence and Verda (Bruno) Doyle. Mr. Doyle graduated from Plattsburgh High School, Class of 1947. In 2000, he was inducted into the Plattsburgh High School Athletic Hall of Fame. He was a four sport letterman, who had received many awards and honors throughout his high school years. He retired as sales manager from NABISCO-IBC in 1976. He later retired again from Stanley Tools as a distributor representative in 1991. He had received many awards during his working career for his sales and managerial abilities. He had served as treasurer for Morrisonville, N.Y., PTA and had served as a board member at Saranac (N.Y.) Central School. He had been a member of the Lions Club, charter member of Plattsburgh Vero Beach, Fla., Chapter of The Elks for 39 years. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and downhill skier. He loved to play golf and was a member and club champion at Sandridge Country Club, Vero Beach, Fla., where he held the club record for four holes-in-one. He also belonged to Neshobe Golf Club in Brandon. Surviving is his wife, Evelyn (Parkhurst) Morgan Doyle of Brandon, whom he married in Proctor on Aug. 23, 1980; two sons, Michael Doyle and his wife Heidi of Lewis, N.Y., and Timothy Doyle and his wife Wendy of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; four stepsons, Lyman Morgan of Florida, Michael Morgan and his wife Tanya of Proctor, David Morgan and his wife Suzanne of Rutland and James Morgan and his wife Connie of Pittsford; three daughters, Deborah Kosmoski and her husband Don of West Wendfield, N.Y., Faye Calvin and her husband Allen of Mooers, N.Y., and Patti Cinelli and her husband Bob of St. Johnsville, N.Y.; and a stepdaughter, Chris Linda Morgan of Milton, Vt.; 20 grandchildren also survive him. The memorial Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Brandon. The Rev. Albert "Skip" Baltz, pastor, will be the celebrant. A private burial will take place at a later date. Following the Mass, the family will receive friends at the church parish hall for a time of fellowship and reflection. There will be no public calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in his memory to The Rutland Area Visiting Nurse & Hospice, Inc., 7 Albert Cree Drive, Rutland, VT 05701 or to St. Mary's Catholic Church, Restoration Fund, 38 Carver St., Brandon, VT 05733. Lowe of Sheldrake Road, AuSable Forks, died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, where she had been a patient since Sept. 8, 2002. She was born Sept. 9, 1929, in St. Claire Shores, Mich., the daughter of Irving and Vera Coulon. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be in Jay Central Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home, AuSable Forks, is in charge of arrangements. Leola K. Glazier, 90, of the Alice Hyde Nursing Home and formerly of the Whippleville Road, died Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002, at that facility. She was born Aug. 30, 1912, in Westville, N.Y., the daughter of Giles J. and Katherine (Rogers) Wilson. Calling hours will be Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the St. Mary-Murphy Funeral Home chapel. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, at 10 a.m. in St. John's Church with Msgr. C.J. McAvoy officiating.
