Ella E. White

Endicott — Ella E. White, 83, of Endicott, went and joined her husband, Earl, in Heaven, Thursday morning, Sept. 26, 2002.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Lee White of Jamestown, R.I., and Rex and Shujuanjia White of Plattsburgh; two daughters, Jill White of Endicott and Penny White and Tom Kvasny of Vestal Center; three grandsons, Lyam and Christine White of Seattle, Wash., Jeremy White of Jamestown, R.I., and Jessie Thomas of Endicott; two sisters, Maude Vartuli of Sidney and Clair Supernaw of Bethany Beach, Del.; one brother, Russell Clark of Plattsburgh; two sisters-in-law, Helen Gilbert of Plattsburgh and Joyce Spellmeyer of Jamestown, Va.; several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank all the staff at the Vestal Nursing Center for the care and respect they gave their mother.

She was a decorated veteran of World War II, in Paris, after the German Occupation.

She was an avid reader and had played basketball in high school and was a follower of the Teddy’s Invitational Tournament. She was an avid bowler and extreme sports fan of both the New York Giants and New York Yankees.

Burial and military honors will be held at the convenience of the family in Plattsburgh, N.Y.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society, 31 Adams Ave., Endicott, N.Y. 13760.

Arrangements are by Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, 300 E. Main St., Endicott, N.Y.

Leander A. Wood

Guilderland — Leander A. Wood, 70, of Guilderland, died Monday, Sept. 30, 2002, at the Inn of Community Hospice at St. Peters Hospital, after a long illness.

He was born in Plattsburgh and was the son of the late Victor and Alice (Stone) Wood.

He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Korea during the Korean War.

Lee was employed with Ford Motor Company in Green Island for 24 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of the United Autoworkers and a communicant of Christ the King Church.

Lee enjoyed traveling the United States after his retirement.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Ann P. Wood. He is the beloved father of Lynn T. Wood of Phoenix, Ariz., Cathleen M. Cox and her husband, Curtis, Donna J. Diana and her husband, Paul, and Melissa A. Wood, all of Guilderland, and the late Lee M. Wood. He is the grandfather of Jessica Lynn Gannon, Anthony and James Diana and Christopher and Chad Cox; brother of Agnes LaPointe, Theresa Kirkendall, Mildred Hayes, Ellsworth Wood, Cecile Littrell, Joyce Bessey and the late Donald Wood, Loretta Bourdeau, Harold Allen and Alena Wood. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Friday morning at 9:15 a.m. at Newcomer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt 155 south of Central Ave) thence to Christ the King Church at 10 a.m., where the Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The parish family of Christ the King Church will gather at 7 p.m. for a service of prayer and remembrance. Entombment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.

Memorial contributions may be made to Christ the King Church Building Fund, 20 Sumpter Ave, Albany, N.Y. 12203 in memory of Mr. Wood.

Kathleen O’Neil

Chateaugay — Kathleen O’Neil, 78, of the Lost Nation Road, Chateaugay and Lake Forest of Plattsburgh, died Sunday, Sept. 29, 2002, at Evergreen Valley Nursing Home, Plattsburgh, N.Y.

She was born in Churubusco, N.Y., on Oct. 10, 1923, the daughter of Fred P. and Frances (Powers) O’Neil.

Ms. O'Neil is survived by a brother, Fred O’Neil of Stratford, Conn. Several nieces and nephews including, Jeanne Leguori of West Seneca, N.Y., Joan Williams of Montville, N.Y. and Hugh O’Neil of Plattsburgh, N.Y.

She was predeceased by her parents; three brothers, James, William and Harold O'Neil; three sisters, Katherine Bridget O'Neil, Helen Lavine and Mary Margaret O'Neil.

Ms. O'Neil graduated from Chateaugay High School Class of 1939. She attended Plattsburgh State College for her teaching degree and received a master's degree in high school guidance.

She was employed in Rouses Point from 1943 to 1949. In 1949, she moved to Long Island working in the Huntington School district as a guidance counselor and teacher, retiring in 1983.

After her retirement, she moved to New Jersey to make her home with her sister and moved to Plattsburgh in 1999, during the summer months she always returned with her family to the family homestead on the Lost Nation Road, Churubusco.

She was a communicant of St. John's Church, Plattsburgh and a member of NYS Retired Teachers Association.

Calling hours will be held at the Chateaugay Funeral Home on Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002, in St. Patrick's Church, with Rev. Ray Moreau officiating.

Logan R. Phinney

Elizabethtown — Logan R. Phinney, 74, of Partridge Road, Elizabethtown, N.Y., died Monday, Sept. 30, 2002, at Elizabethtown Hospital.

He was born July 13, 1928, in Elizabethtown, the son of Logan O. an Susan (Sayre) Phinney.

He was a veteran of World War II , a member of the American Legion and an avid outdoorsman who loved four-wheeling, snowmobiling, hunting, and camping.

He worked for many years at the U.S. Army Reserve Center in Elizabethtown and drove school bus for the Elizabethtown-Lewis Central School. He was the owner and operator of Phinney's Sporting Goods Shop for 12 years; a member of the Elizabethtown Fire Dept for 38 years, a district fire commissioner for many years and a member of the Elizabethtown Fire Police.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Christina (Martin) Phinney; two daughters and sons-in- law, Alyce and Doug Kilburn and Linda and Josh Martin; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Kathy Phinney, all of Elizabethtown; one brother, Clayton Phinney, of Elizabethtown; two sisters, Melba Wrisley of Elizabethtown and Ruth Kormani of Albany; five grandchildren, William and Sarah Kilburn, Ginger and Brian Phinney, Jordan Phinney, Grant Martin and Gina Martin; and four great-grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday, Oct. 2002, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Marvin’s Funeral Home in Elizabethtown Funeral Services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at the United Church of Christ in Elizabethtown. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Elizabethtown Fire Dept. , Elizabethtown, Lewis Ambulance Squad or the United Church of Christ.

Stewart Lyman Decker

Morrisonville — Mr. Stewart Lyman Decker, 69, of Woodland Hill, Morrisonville, passed away Sunday, Sept. 29, 2002, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington, Vt., with his family at his side following a long battle with cancer.

He was born in Middletown, N.Y., on June 6, 1933, the son of Samuel and Mary (Lyman) Decker.

Stewart retired from the U.S. Air Force as a senior master sergeant after 20 years of service in the Strategic Air Command and was stationed at many bases both domestic and worldwide. He then worked for Northrop Worldwide Aircraft Services as lead man on many trainer aircraft, including the T-37 at Vance Air Force Base, Enid, Okla., and Plattsburgh Air Force Base. His life long dream was fulfilled when he was allowed to pilot a T-37 from Plattsburgh Air Force Base to Stewart Air Guard Base in Newburgh, N.Y., and back.

Stewart was a member of and past President of the American Military Retirees Association 2-1 (AMRA) Plattsburgh, N.Y., and a member of The Retired Enlisted Association (TREA). He was a member of the Clinton County Woodcarvers Association.

Stewart was an avid swimmer winning a gold medal in the senior division at the Bay Club in lap swimming. In his younger years he was a rancher in Carrier, Okl. He enjoyed traveling, savoring many gastric delights, playing cards and practical jokes. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and his dogs.

He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Myra L. (Shohet) Decker of Morrisonville; his children, Tamara Steele and her husband, Joseph of Benkelman, Neb.; Shawn Patrick Decker, Ph.D. and his wife, Kristi of Manhattan, Kansas; Shanna Lynn Ubel and her husband, Christopher of Wamego, Kan.; his stepchildren, Halli E. Altson and her husband, Adam of Tualatin, Ore.; Gary M. Schacher and his wife, Laurie of Cobleskill, N.Y.; Dave Schacher of Enid, Okla.; eight grandchildren; a sister, Joyce Evangelista and her husband, Lou of Boiling Springs, N.C.; two brothers, Monte Decker and his wife, Marianne of Beaverton, Ore; Jan P. Decker of Florida; his former wife, Marion Stucker of Carrier, Okl.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Stewart’s family will receive guests on Thursday from 6:30 to 7 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh, with a celebration of his life to be held at 7 p.m.

Friends wishing may make donations to Cancer Research, Lung Research, the University of Vermont Cancer Research Center, the Fox-Chase Cancer Research Center in Philadelphia, PA.

Richard G. Trombley Sr.

Winter Harbor — Richard G. Trombley, Sr., 72, died peacefully, Sunday, Sept. 29, 2002, at his home.

He was born Oct. 7, 1929, in Morrisonville, N.Y., the son of Wilfred and Rhoda (Rock) Trombley.

Dick is survived by his wife of 51 years, Leola (Joy) Trombley of Winter Harbor, Maine; two sons, Michael Trombley and his wife, Jennifer of Portland, Maine, and Richard Trombley Jr. of Ellsworth, Maine; daughter, Ramona Trombley Sprague and her husband, Gerry of Winter Harbor; six grandchildren, Tricia, Justin, Michael, Ricky, Taylor and Maryah; two brothers, James Trombley and Patrick Trombley, both of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; two sisters, Shirley LaBarge of Morrisonville, N.Y., and Pam Neverett of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by two brothers Carlton "Jiggs" Trombley and Gary Trombley.

Dick served in the U.S. Navy from Oct. 1947 until Aug. 1969. He was a civil service worker from 1974 until 1994 at the Winter Harbor Navel base. He was most recently working at the Winter Harbor gas station. Dick loved mowing his lawn and anyone else's lawn that needed it. He will be sadly missed by all.

Friends are invited to meet with the family for a time of sharing 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, 47 Main St., Milbridge, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday. Interment will be at the West Bay Cemetery in Gouldsboro with military honors.

KENNETH "BILL" STRONG, 90, of the Silver Lake Road in AuSable Forks, died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center Emergency Room, Plattsburgh.

He was born Nov. 15, 1911, in AuSable Forks, the son of Charles A. and Myrtle (Elliott) Strong.

There will be no calling hours or funeral service. Burial will be at a later date at Fairview Cemetery, AuSable Forks, at the convenience of the family. The Zaumetzer - Sprague Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Grace L. Twaddle, 87, of the LaCount Road, Chateaugay, died Monday, Sept. 30, 2002, at Meadowbrook Nursing Home, Plattsburgh, N.Y.

She was born in Brier Hill, N.Y., on April 18, 1915, the daughter of Frank and Leona (Palmer) Lunderman.

There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002, in the Chateaugay Funeral Home, with Rev. Eleanor Bellows officiating. Burial will take place at North Burke Cemetery, Burke.

Stanley E. Baurczarski, 81, of Stebbins Road, Constable, N.Y., died early Tuesday morning, Oct. 1, 2002, at his daughters home, while under the loving care of his family, friends and Hospice of the North Country, Inc.

He was born in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., Aug. 19, 1921, the son of the late, Joseph and Sophie Wilcofsky Burack.

There are no calling hours. Funeral services and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are through Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Services, Inc. of Malone.

Katherine S. Fee, 86, of Maple Ridge Apartments, Sawyer Avenue, Malone, N.Y., and formerly of Burke, N.Y., died early Monday morning, Sept. 30, 2002, at the Alice Hyde Nursing Home in Malone, with her daughter and loving friends at her side. She had been a resident there since January 1999.

Born in Malone, April 9, 1916, she was the daughter of the late, George P. and Elizabeth (Dumas) South.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone. The Catholic Daughters and the Notre Dame Altar Rosary Society will conduct a vigil service Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. The Grange will conduct a service at 8 p.m. at the funeral home on Wednesday. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at Notre Dame Church in Malone. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery on the Fort Covington Road in Malone.
