Published:09/28/02Gary R. RecoreChateaugay — Gary R. Recore, 50, of the Douglas Road, Chateaugay, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2002, at Alice Hyde Medical Center, Malone, N.Y. He was born in Malone, N.Y., on March 8, 1952, the son of Francis and Gertrude (Cheyne) Recore. He was married to Deborah Colburn on Sept. 22, 1972, in St. Patrick’s Church, Chateaugay. Mr. Recore is survived by his wife of 30 years; two daughters and a son-in-law, Melissa and Eric Samples of Canton, Ga., and Kimberly Recore who is attending Plattsburgh State; his mother, Gertrude Nichols of Chateaugay, N.Y.; a brother and sister-in-law, Donny and Sharon Recore of Burke, N.Y.; four sisters and two brothers-in-laws, Sue and Wayne Miller of West Chazy, N.Y., Joanne Colburn-King of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Cindy Recore of Chateaugay, N.Y., and Debbie and Bobby Patnode of Chateaugay, N.Y.; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Darwin and Amy Colburn of Chateaugay, N.Y.; nine brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Mike and Faith Colburn of Kentucky, Sue and Bill Holbrook of Chateaugay, N.Y., Bobby Colburn of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Karen and Ray Markel of Plattsburgh, N.Y., David and Pam Colburn of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; many aunts; uncles; nieces; nephews; and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Francis Recore in 1974. Mr. Recore attended Ellenburg High School and began his working career at Sweet’s Garage for three years, he then went to work at Langdon Oil in Malone from 1972 to 1978 after which he became superintendent of highways for Chateaugay from 1978 to 1989. He was superintendent of buildings and grounds for Franklin County from 1989 to 1999. Mr. Recore was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church and member of Chateaugay Fish and Game, North American Hunting Association and Franklin County Highway Superintendent’s Association, where he was treasurer. He was also a Chateaugay Town Councilman for many years. Calling hours are private. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, in St. Patrick’s Church, with Rev. Ray Moreau officiating. Burial will take place at Immaculate Heart Cemetery, Churubusco. Following committal prayers, a reception will be held at the Chateaugay American Legion. Donations in his memory may be made to the Huntington’s Disease Society, St. Patrick’s Church or the Chateaugay Fire Department. Arrangements are with the Chateaugay Funeral Home. Beatrice S. LewisKeene Valley — Beatrice S. Lewis, 87, of Keene Valley, died Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, at the Horace Nye Home in Elizabethtown, where she had been a resident for the past five years. She was born May 3, 1915, in Keene, N.Y., the daughter of Jeremiah and Mary (Collins) Shackett. Beatrice graduated from Keene Valley High School in 1934. She married Paul Lewis on July 14, 1940, at St. Brendan’s Catholic Church in Keene and was employed at the AuSable Club for many years, then as a private housekeeper until her retirement. She is survived by her husband of Keene Valley; a son, Robert of Wilmington; four daughters, Nona Duntley of Lewis, Nina Allen of Keene Valley, Paula Lewis of Wilmington and Julie Lewis of Elizabethtown; one foster daughter, Elizabeth LaForest, of Plattsburgh; 10 grandchildren and eight great - grand-children. A son, Jeremiah; two brothers, Stephen and Francis Shackett; and one sister, Elizabeth LeClair died earlier. There will be no calling hours. A memorial Mass will be held on Monday, Sept. 30, 2002, at 11 a.m. at St. Brendan’s Church in Keene, N.Y. DessoPeru — Mrs. Ruth E. Desso, 76, of Apple Valley Senior Housing, passed away Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center. She was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y. on May 15, 1926, the daughter of Edward and Margaret Caron. Ruth retired from Arpak Plastics after many years of service. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, crocheting, flower gardening and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ruth was a member of the Peru Golden Apple Club and the Senior Citizens Council of Clinton County. Ruth was predeceased by her husband, Ross "Bob" Desso in 1980. She is survived by two sons, Raymond Desso and his wife, Sandra of Peru; Thomas Desso of New Britan, Conn.; a brother, Richard "Pat" Caron and his wife, Elaine of Plattsburgh; five grandchildren; several great- grandchildren, nieces and nephews Calling hours will be Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh. A funeral service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Jack Buttimer, pastor of the Plattsburgh United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in the family plot at Riverside Cemetery. Joyce E. FosterJoyce E. Foster, 71, of 27 Rowley Street, Gouverneur, N.Y., died Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2002, at E.J. Noble Hospital. She was born May 7, 1931, in Malone, the daughter of Floyd and Beatrice Aubin Peets. She graduated from Massena High School in 1949 and attended Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, Watertown, where she was trained as a lab technician. Mrs. Foster was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church, a member of the E.J. Noble Hospital Auxiliary, Gouverneur Library Association, Gouverneur Historical Association and a volunteer, providing administrative support for the Gouverneur Volunteer Rescue Squad. She worked for St. Lawrence County as a lab technician at Potsdam, Star Lake and Gouverneur and was a circulation agent in Gouverneur for the Watertown Daily Times. She married William Clark Foster on May 16, 1953, in Massena, with the Rev. Joseph Doud officiating. Surviving besides her husband are seven sons and five daughters-in-law, Jay and Joanne Foster, Ogdensburg, Clark and Barbara Foster, Plattsburgh, John Foster, Gouverneur, Stewart and Cheryl Foster, Colchester, Vt., Fred and Rosa Foster, Gouverneur, Timothy Foster, Atlanta, Ga., and Matt and Lisa Foster, Gouverneur; two daughters and a son-in-law, Jill Foster, Gouverneur and Wendy and Patrick Serguson, Massena; three brothers, Olin Peets, Massena, Frederick Peets, Hannawa Falls and Richard Peets, Canton; a sister, Gertrude Morris, Massena; 15 grandchildren, a great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. A brother, Stanley Peets died before her. Donations may be made in her memory to the Gouverneur Volunteer Rescue Squad. Ruth D. Wellette, 86, of Champlain, died Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. Arrangements were incomplete Friday evening at the E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Champlain. Branden Allen Trombley, infant son of Lester Trombley Sr. and Sara Boulerice of Plattsburgh, died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. A committal service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002, at 1:30 p.m. from St Ann’s Cemetery in Mooers Forks.
