Published: 09/19/02Robert L GonyeauTiconderoga — Robert Lee Gonyea, 55, of the Canfield Road in Ticonderoga, died unexpectedly at his home on Monday, Sept. 16, 2002. He was born in Ticonderoga on July 25, 1947, the son of Charles Leroy and Gertrude (Stimpson) Gonyea. At the time of his death, Bob was a machine back-tender at the Ticonderoga International Paper Mill. He was avid outdoorsman who enjoyed both hunting and fishing. He is survived by one son, Jason Gonyea of Milford, N.H.; one daughter, Sherri Stewart of Schenectady; two brothers, Charles Gonyea of Ticonderoga and Vern Gonyea of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; one sister, Joan Zubert of Farmingdale, N.Y.; two granddaughters, Ashley and Zachary Stewart; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he is predeceased by one sister, Mary Gonyea. Following cremation a private service will be held at the convenience of the family, Deacon Elliot Shaw of Ticonderoga officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Connery & Gunning Funeral Home in Ticonderoga. Benjamin W. Tayler Jr.Portola, Calif. — Benjamin W. Tayler Jr., 38, formerly of Rutland, Vt., died as a result of an automobile accident on Aug. 25, 2002. He was born in Burlington, Vt., Jan. 6, 1964, beloved son of Benjamin and Molly (Fitts) Tayler of Rouses Point, N.Y. In addition to his parents, Benjamin, is survived by four sisters, Tracy and her husband, Gary Pool of Morrisville, Vt., Shelley and her husband, Dale Cahill of Bakersfield, Vt., Wendy and her husband, Raymond Quesnel of Pfafftown, N.C., and Kerry Tayler of Branford, Conn.; ten nieces and nephews, Erin Cram, Kara Pool, Evan, Emily and Elizabeth Cahill, Alison, Robin and Timothy Brockel, Kelly and Jonathan Quesnel; and a grandniece, Aria Day. He is also survived by an uncle and aunt, Adrian and Gloria Fitts of Rouses Point; uncles, Edward Tayler of Lansing, Mich., and Robert Chrisler of Morganton, Ga.; an aunt, Leslee Fitts of Lakewood, Calif.; and several cousins. A memorial service was held in Lake Tahoe, Calif. on Sept. 1, 2002. Ben attended schools in Essex Center and Rutland , Vt., where he graduated in 1983 from Rutland High School. Ben was an avid golfer and enjoyed his career as chef at The Lodge and Restaurant at Whitehawk Ranch Clio, Calif. His parents received a letter from Ben's employer and in part it read: "Bennie was a skilled and dedicated chef who made everyday more pleasant and successful by his presence at Whitehawk Ranch. We miss him dearly and realize how he nourished the guests, community and staff by much more than the food he prepared." From friends in California: "He is remembered as a good friend and a great human being." A service will be held at Christ and St. John’s in Champlain, N.Y., on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, at 2 p.m. Rita A. HindsWILMINGTON — Rita A. Hinds, 78, of the Springfield Road, died Monday, Sept. 16, 2002, at her home. She was born April 19, 1924, in Wilmington, the daughter of Clifton and Etta (Stephenson) Preston. Rita enjoyed gardening, walking and going on trips. She was a foster mother to many children and she made her home their home. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 504 of AuSable Forks. She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Patricia Hunt of South Carolina and Beatrice and Fred Johnson of Upper Jay; three sons and a daughter-in-law, James Rowe of Keeseville, Donald and Cindy Hinds of Wilmington and Donald Hall of Lake Placid; 11 grandchildren; and five great - grandchildren. Her parents predeceased her and her husband, Dietrich "Lee" Hinds, whom she married June 14, 1952, in Wilmington, died Nov. 10,1994. Calling hours will be Thursday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Zaumetzer - Sprague Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted Friday morning at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the family plot at the Haselton Cemetery, Wilmington. Memorials to her may be made to the Wilmington Fire and Rescue Service. Norma I. FlickMorrisonville — Norma I. Flick passed away Sept. 17, 2002, of natural causes. She was 76 and a resident of Grand Island, Fla., though she spent her summers visiting her children in Plattsburgh, N.Y. Norma is survived by her elder brother, Edwin Harding and his wife, Linda of Ormond Beach, Fla., two sisters, Audrey Cook and her husband, Jim of Attica, N.Y., and Barbara (Babs) Nadeau of Grain Valley, Mo.; a dear aunt, Gertrude Spaulding of Grand Island, Fla.; seven children and their spouses, Sandra and Gary Brown of Morrisonville, N.Y., Patricia Smith of Cadyville, N.Y., Robert and Linda Flick of Cadyville, N.Y., Joann Flick of East Glacier Park, Mont., Mark and Jodie Flick of Malone, N.Y., Gary and Nancy Flick of Westville, Mass., and Paul Anthony Jr. and Connie Flick of Peru, N.Y.; 16 grandchildren; and seven great - grand-children. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul A. Flick Sr.; her brother, Gordon (Gub) Harding; and her father and mother, Milner and Mildred Harding. She was born in western New York, Norma grew up on a wheat farm, which her dad sold to open a grocery store / soda fountain. Perhaps she got her entrepreneurial skills from her dad, because she ran some part of her own or others’ businesses most of her life. Norma and her husband, Paul moved to the North Country so that Paul could work for the New York State Department of Corrections at Dannemora Prison, now Clinton Correctional Facility. Norma owned and operated Flick’s Beauty Salon in Morrisonville, N.Y. for many years. She was a teacher of cosmetology at Clinton - Essex - Franklin BOCES (now CV-TEC) both at the Mineville, N.Y. campus and at the Plattsburgh campus. She served many years as president of the Adirondack Hairdresser’s Association. Prior to retirement, she operated a station at the Village Beauty shop in Plattsburgh, N.Y. She continued to practice hairdressing with family and friends until her passing. Norma was an active member of the North Country Community and continued to be active when she retired to Florida. She was an officer with the Plattsburgh Women’s Bowling Association, the St. Alexander’s Rosary Society in Morrisonville, N.Y., the Morrisonville Volunteer Fire Auxiliary, charter member of the Morrisonville / Schuyler Falls Ambulance service, the Chain-O-Lakes Kitchen Band in and was named "Queen of the Park" at Chain-O-Lakes Park, Grand Island, Fla. Famous for her excellent pies, Norma’s home has always been filled with friends and laughter. She was adored by all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She liked to travel, bowl, golf and play cards, but mostly she liked to laugh. Her giggle, charming nature and sparkly blue eyes will remain in the cherished memories of her family and friends forever. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either the Saranac or Morrisonville Ambulance Service. Calling hours will be Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Alexander’s Church, Morrisonville. Interment will be in St. Alexander’s Cemetery. Harold C. LaPointeEndicott, N.Y. — Harold C. LaPointe, 74, of Endicott, N.Y., died unexpectedly Monday, Sept. 16, 2002, at his home. He was born in Chazy, N.Y. on Aug. 12, 1928, son of the late Clarence and Mary (LaPorte) LaPointe. He is survived by his wife, Agnes (Brown) LaPointe, of Endicott, N.Y.; a son, Gary LaPointe and his fiancé, Patricia, of Castle Creek, N.Y.; a granddaughter, Whitney LaPointe, of Kirkwood, N.Y.; a sister-in-law, Ann Davison and her husband, Roger of Albany, N.Y.; a brother-in-law, Alan Brown and his fiancé Ann of Champlain, N.Y.; six nieces I and nephews, Erika Brown, Joseph Brown, David Davison, Kathy Davison, Dennis Davison, and Marty Davison. Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002, at the Clark Funeral Home in Champlain. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at St Joseph’s Church in Coopersville. Burial will follow the mass in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Mooers. Robert Wallace Oddy Sr., age 81, formerly of Saranac Lake and Paul Smiths, of Dogwood Drive, Barefoot Bay, Fla., died Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2002, at Integrated Health Services, Palm Day, Fla. He was born in Montreal, Canada, on April 19, 1921, the son of Nathaniel and Annie (MacLeod) Oddy. Visitation will be at Fortune - Keough Funeral Home, Saranac Lake on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, from noon to 2 p.m. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home, with Father Timothy Soucy, pastor of St. Bernard’s Church officiating. Burial will follow at Brighton Cemetery in Gabriels. |
