Published: 09/16/02Lillian B. BakerGABRIELS — Lillian B. Baker, 59, of Gabriels, died Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002 at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. Born in Lyon Mountain on Oct. 8, 1942, she was the daughter of Roy and Lillian (Garrow) Gregory. She married Irving Paul Baker, who predeceased her on Feb. 26, 2002. Mrs. Baker had been a resident of the area since she was 19 years old. She was employed for several years at Paul Smiths College and later at Ross Park in Paul Smiths for several years. She is survived by her mother, Lillian Gregory of Ellenburg; two sons, Andrew Baker of Gabriels and Gregory Baker of Vermontville; four grandchildren; eight brothers, John and his wife, Mary Gregory, of Ellenburg, Roy Jr. of Rochester, Donald of Massachusetts, Gerald and his wife, Donna, of Massachusetts, Bernard and his wife, Debbie, of Ellenburg, Patrick of Ellenburg, Paul of Malone, Earl and his wife, Phyllis Gregory, of Plattsburgh; four sisters, Lynn Duval of Chateaugay, Judy Gregory of Plattsburgh, Nancy Gregory of Ellenburg and Susan Gregory of Ellenburg; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one son, George Baker, and one sister, Mary King. Funeral arrangements are in care of Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will take place at the convenience of the family. Burial will be at Mountain View Cemetery in Gabriels. Robert D. Bishop Sr.PLATTSBURGH — Mr. Robert D. Bishop Sr., "Butch" or "Bobby," 54, of Jane Lane, died Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002 at CVPH Medical Center, after a courageous battle with cancer. Robert was born in Plattsburgh on Sept. 30, 1947, the son of the late John and Elizabeth (Short) Bishop Sr. Robert served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1969 in Vietnam and earned the Vietnam Service Medal and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was a member of the Carpenters Local 1042. Robert was self-employed and worked for many of the area stores doing floor installations. Robert enjoyed spending time with his large, loving family and friends. He was a wonderful, supportive father in all arenas. He enjoyed watching various sporting events. Robert is survived by his wife of 33 years, Betty A. (Brunell) Bishop Sr., whom he married on Aug. 16, 1969 at the Wesleyan-Methodist Church in Plattsburgh; one son, Robert D. Bishop Jr. of Morrisonville; two daughters, Paula L. Bishop and companion Guy Durgan Jr. of Peru, and Paulette M. LeDuc and son-in-law Raymond A. LeDuc Jr. of Saranac; seven grandchildren, Katie, Stephanie, Brittney, Brandon, Evan, Jacob and Alicia; eight sisters and their spouses, Bernice Cressey and companion Marvin Morrow Sr. of Plattsburgh, Martha Rusciani of Plattsburgh, Bertha and Horace Fountain of Plattsburgh, Frances and Ernest Gushlaw of Lakewales, Fla., Rita and James Ramsey of Olathe, Kan., Patricia Trott and her companion, Ted Dell, of Keeseville, Linda and Ricky Darrah of Plattsburgh, and Faith and Robert Haight II of Schenectady; three brothers and their spouses, John and Judy Bishop Jr. of Cumberland Head, James and Anna Bishop of Plattsburgh, and Larry and Judy Velie of Peru. Many nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and many cousins also survive him. In addition to his parents, Robert was predeceased by brothers George, Franklin and Richard; brother-in-laws Leonard Rusciani and David Trott. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at noon at the Elizabeth St. Wesleyan Church with Pastor Steve Biswell officiating. Interment will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that friends who wish to make donations may make them out to Fisher House (care of Albany Veterans Hospital) 113 Holland Ave., Albany NY 12208, who provided such great care for Robert and his family while he was sick. Norma Rose MegowHAGUE — Norma Rose Megow, 66, of Bayberry Lane, Cape Cod Village, and formerly of 168 Forest Drive, Wetherfield, Conn., went to be with the Lord Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002 at Glens Falls Hospital. Born in Hartford, Conn. on March 30, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Otto and Rose (Schien) Lungstrass. Mrs. Megow lived in Hartford for many years. She was employed by Aetna Insurance Company of Hartford for 10 years. She retired to Hague, N.Y. in 1987. Mrs. Megow was a member of the Hague Baptist Church, the Hague Volunteer Fire Department and the Hope Cancer Group of Hague. Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Ludolf W. Lu Megow; two daughters and a son-in-law, Joann and Richard Fortier of Crown Point, and Heidi Rose Foy of West Hartford, Conn.; a brother-in-law and a sister-in-law, William and Helen Megow of Burlington, Mass; and three grandsons, Jeffrey Fortier, Kevin Fortier, and Anthony Foy. She is also survived by two nieces. Relatives and friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday at Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home, 11 Algonkin St., Ticonderoga. A funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Hague Baptist Church. The Rev. Donald Buchanan, pastor, will officiate. Interment will be at the family plot of the May Memorial Cemetery of Hague. Following the funeral, a gathering of family and friends will take place at the Fire House in Hague. Donations in her memory may be made to the Glens Falls Hospital, Oncology Department Treatment Fund, 100 Park St., Glens Falls, NY 12801. KATHRYN M. KENESTON, 88, of 15 Jane St., Malone, died Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002. Born in Tupper Lake on Jan. 29, 1914, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary McGovern Keneston. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at Notre Dame Church in Malone. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Donations may be made in her memory to Hospice of the North Country, Inc. in Malone. MERILDA M. ‘MIM’ (BURNELL) FORGETTE, 88, formerly of Wallace Hill Road in Plattsburgh, died Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002 at the Meadowbrook Health Care Facility with her family at her side. She was born in Plattsburgh on Dec. 9, 1913, the daughter of Mose and Charlotte (Antoine) Bushey. Calling hours and funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh. THOMAS WRAY, 77, of Vestal and formerly a resident of AuSable Forks, died Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002 in Vestal. Calling hours will be 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home in AuSable Forks. A memorial service will be held at 11:15 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the family plot in Holy Name Cemetery in AuSable Forks. A full obituary will follow. |
