James R. Gebo Sr.

Plattsburgh — Mr. James R. Gebo Sr., 83, of Charles Way, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Plattsburgh on April 12, 1919, the son of Charles and Febe (Bresette) Gebo.

He graduated from Piercefield High School as valedictorian of his class. He attended business school in Plattsburgh.

James served his country in the U. S. Air Force during World War II and was honorably discharged.

He worked as parts manager at Cumberland Motors for 37 years retiring at the age of 76.

James enjoyed crossword puzzles, watching hockey and New York Giants football games.

He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 309 in Peru, the American Legion Post 20 in Plattsburgh and St. Peter’s Church.

He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Febe Gebo; a brother, Walter Gebo; and a sister, Ida Harmon.

He is survived by three daughters, Peggy Matteau and her husband, Michael of Plattsburgh, Ida Duval and her husband, Harold of Plattsburgh and Hope Ann Dick and her husband, Michael of Chesapeake, Va.; three sons, James R. Gebo Jr., and his wife, Mary Beth of Dannemora, Charles Gebo and his wife Judi of Peru and Anthony Gebo and his companion, Elleen of Plattsburgh; his first wife and loving companion, Margaret Gaff of Plattsburgh; 18 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a dear and loving sister-in-law, Mrs. Marilyn Gebo of Corinth, N.Y.; several nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

He will be missed dearly by all who knew him.

Calling hours will be Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh. A funeral service will be held Saturday evening at 8:30 p.m., with Msgr. Morris L. Dwyer officiating. Following cremation burial will be Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002, at 10 a.m. at St. Peter’s Cemetery, where Military Honors will be provided by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 309 of Peru. Members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 309 and the American Legion Post 20 are asked to meet Saturday evening at 7 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home for services.

Margaret E. Hall, 81, formerly of Ellenburg and was currently making her home with her daughter in Rouses Point, died Friday, Sept. 13, 2002, at CVPH Medical Center.

Calling hours will be at the Chateaugay Funeral Home on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002, from 2 to 4 p.m. only.

Carl Michael Thomas, 44, of Pond Street, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, at his residence.

He was born in Plattsburgh on Dec. 23, 1957, the son of George William and Beatrice Lillian (Provost) Thomas.

There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh.

Harriet M. Harwood, 83, of the Wheeler Road, died Friday, Sept. 13, 2002, at her home.

She was born May 18, 1919, in Malone, N.Y., the daughter of Harry and Marion Becker Yando.

Calling hours will be Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the St. Mary-Murphy Funeral Home chapel. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday, Sept. 16, 2002, at 11 a.m. in St. John Bosco Church, with Rev. Thomas Moody officiating. Burial will be in Morningside Cemetery.

Violet "Vi" Farmer, age 85, formerly of Church Street, Saranac Lake, died Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002, at Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid, where she had been a resident since 1996.

She was born in Onchiota, N.Y., on Dec. 6, 1916, the daughter of Hayden and Angeline (Patnode) Tormey.

Calling hours will be at the Fortune - Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will take place at the funeral home at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 16, 2002. Burial will follow at Merrilsville Cemetery in Loon Lake.
