Viola M. "Vi" Soucy

Plattsburgh — Mrs. Viola M. "Vi" Soucy, 89, formerly of Russell Barnard Apartments and most recently Evergreen Valley Nursing Home, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center, with her family at her side.

She was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., on July 10, 1913, the daughter of Oreal and Mabel (Conway) Fountain.

Viola enjoyed cooking, playing bingo and spending time with her family.

Viola was predeceased by her parents, Oreal and Mabel Fountain; her husband, George Soucy; a son, Joseph Soucy; a brother, Oreal Fountain; and a sister, Agnes Rivers.

She is survived by a son, Olin Fountain and his wife, Shirley of Plattsburgh; two daughters, Marie McFadden and her husband, Thomas of Rancho Cordova, Calif., and Fran Barnes and her husband, Larry of Syracuse; three sisters, Jessie Collins of Canton, Marie Rivers and her husband, LeRoy of Schenectady and Marilyn Kimball of Schenectady; 23 grandchildren; 17 great - grandchildren; several great -great - grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. St. Joseph’s Church, Treadwells Mills, with the Rev. William G. Reamer, chaplain at CVPH Medical Center, as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Rouses Point.

Friends wishing may make donations to the Activities Room at Evergreen Valley Nursing Home.

Amelia "Smokey" Hassler

EUGENE, ORE. — A private graveside service was held for Amelia F. Hassler of Eugene, Ore., formally of Plattsburgh, who died Aug. 21, 2002, of a kidney failure. She was 78.

Hassler was born March 17, 1924, in Magnolia Heights, N.J., to Peter and Iuinca Simundich.

In 1940, she graduated from Walton High School in Bronx, N.Y., at the age of 16.

She worked as an executive secretary until joining the U.S. Navy in 1945. She received an honorable discharge from the Waves in 1946.

She married Albert Hassler in San Diego on April 16, 1948. The couple moved to Eugene six years ago.

In 1955, Hassler joined the federal civil service. She worked for the U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force until 1984 as an executive secretary and court reported, receiving 11 outstanding performance awards.

Her interest included bowling, reading and her family.

She is remembered for her sewing ability and innovative cooking and putting the welfare of others before her own.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Allison Hassler of Eugene; a son, Albert II of Houston; and three grandchildren, Chad and Meeghan Baker of Plattsburgh and Loren Hassler of Houston.

A daughter, Kimberlee Baker, died in 1988.

The private service was held at Rest - Haven Memorial Park in Eugene. Rest - Haven Memorial Park and Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hassler Family Scholarship Fund at State University of New York, Plattsburgh, NY 12901

Barbara "Dolly" Bonner, 88, of 1023 State Route 122, Constable, died Wednesday morning, Sept. 11, 2002, at Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone. She had been a patient there since Sept. 7.

She was born in Massena, Sept. 6, 1914, the daughter of the late John and Florinda Begor Dulfrane.

Calling hours will be from noon until 2 p.m. today at Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today, in the Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. Tom Davis officiating. Burial will be in Constable Cemetery.

JAMES R. GEBO, 83, of Charles Way, Plattsburgh, died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born in Plattsburgh, April 12, 1919, son of the late Charles and Febe (Brisette) Gebo.

Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh.

A funeral service will be held at 8:30 p.m. Saturday with Monsignor Morris L. Dwyer officiating. Following cremation, burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter’s Cemetery where military honors will be provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 309 Peru.

PENDLEY — E. Ann Pendley died Sept. 1, 2002, in Punxsutawney, Pa. A memorial service will be held for her on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, at 1 p.m. at Turnpike Wesleyan Church, 2224 Military Turnpike, Plattsburgh, NY 12901.
