Published: 09/12/02Mary W. BarryPLATTSBURGH — Mary W. Barry, 80, died Monday afternoon, Sept. 9, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center. She was born in Philadelphia, Pa., on May 24, 1922, the daughter of Daniel and Grace (Townley) McL. Miller. She married John J. Barry in Philadelphia in 1948. John died in 1994. Mrs. Barry was a member of St. John’s Church in Plattsburgh. She graduated from Immaculata College in Philadelphia in 1944 as a dietitian and was employed at Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia for several years. Mrs. Barry later was employed at the American Heart Association, for several years, until retiring in 1972. Mr. and Mrs. Barry moved to Plattsburgh in 1989. Survivors include two sons, John D. Barry of Philadelphia, Pa., and Frank J. Barry of St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands; four daughters, Mary H. Barry of Neenah, Wis., Grace Adams and her husband, Dr. Richard Adams of Plattsburgh, Elizabeth Goliber and her husband, Michael of Buffalo, N.Y., and Margaret Preg and her husband, John of Philadelphia, Pa; one brother, Daniel McL. Miller and his wife, Rosanne of Maryland; one sister, Josephine Long of Philadelphia, Pa.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews. One sister, Grace Bradley died in June of this year. Calling hours will be held Thursday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the R. W. Walker Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at St. John’s Church followed by burial in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. John Henry HealeyLyon Mountain, N.Y. / Dayton, Ohio — John Henry Healey, 47, of Lyon Mountain, N.Y., and Dayton, Ohio, died Sept. 7, 2002, after a courageous six-year battle with cancer. He was devoted to his wife and daughters and passed away at home, comforted by them. John was born in Plattsburgh on Sept. 24, 1954, to Julia Garrow Healey and the late Harry J. Healey. He attended school in Lyon Mountain and graduated from Northern Adirondack Central School in 1972. He attended North Country Community College in Saranac Lake and was honorably discharged from both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Army Reserve. John is survived by his wife of 24 years, Chief Master Sergeant Deborah (Miller) Healey; and daughters, Jessica Healey, a graduate student at The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio, and Lori Healey, a senior at Wright State University, Dayton Ohio; his mother, Julia B. Healey and his sister, Margaret Healey Lee, both of New Ipswich, N.H.; his father and mother - in - law, Lyman (Gil) and Shirley Miller of Chazy Lake; a sister-in-law, Crystal DeLuca and her husband, Dr. James DeLuca of Clearwater, Fla.; brother - in - law, Lynn Miller and his wife, Michelle Miller of Milton, Vt.; four nieces, Rebecca Lee, Kristie Begor, Kryn Begor, and Bridget Benware and her husband, Jason; four aunts, especially Hazel Marie Bingel of Lyon Mountain, to whom he was very close; an uncle; and several cousins. John is predeceased by his father; and two brothers-in-law, David C. Lee and Steve A. Miller. There will be no calling hours. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Church in Dannemora Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, at 11 a.m. by Rev. John J. Looby. Immediately following the service, a gathering will be held in the church hall for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests masses be said for John or donations be made in his memory to Hospice of Dayton. Envelopes will be provided. Mary Ann RussellDAVIE, FLA. — Mary Ann Russell of Davie, Fla., passed away Aug. 29, 2002, after a long battle with cancer. Mary Ann attended schools in Rouses Point and Champlain, N.Y., and Miami University in Florida. She is survived by her mother, Audrey Martin of Florida and her father, Edward Hussey of Rouses Point, N.Y.; sisters, Amanda Racine of Rouses Point, N.Y. and Catherine Deso of Peru, N.Y.; daughter, Tracey Stevens; and sons, Joey and Dean Bechard; and her loving grandchildren all of Florida. She will be missed dearly by all those who knew her. Arrangements were entrusted to the Cremation and Burial Society of South Florida. Myrtle E. LawrenceWilmington — Myrtle E. Lawrence, 87, formerly of Wilmington, died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, at the Evergreen Valley Nursing Home, Plattsburgh, where she had been a resident since April 22, 2002. She was born May 3, 1915, in Vermontville, the daughter of Merton and Myrtle (Keith) Skeels. She enjoyed taking care of children, crocheting and knitting and going to church. Myrtle was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Grace and George Bushey of AuSable Forks; three sons and daughters in law, Earl and Cathy Lawrence of Peru, Duane and Miriam Lawrence of Vermontville, Almon and Virginia Lawrence of AuSable Forks; and a total of 100 living decedents. Her husband, Earl Lawrence, whom she married Aug. 4, 1934, died May 5, 1985; and a daughter and a son-in-law, Alice and Carl Gallo died before her. Calling hours will be Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Zaumetzer - Sprague Funeral Home in AuSable Forks. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at St James Episcopal Church in AuSable Forks. Burial win be in the family plot at the Haselton Cemetery, Wilmington. Following the burial, a reception for family and friends will be held at St. James Parish Hall, AuSable Forks. Memorials to her may be made to Saint James Episcopal Church Memorial Fund. Marion R. WhitfordTiconderoga — Marion R. Whitford, 71, of, Warner. Hill Road, passed away Mdnesday, September 11, 2002 at the Moses-Ludington Hospital of Ticonderoga. She was born in Ticonderoga, July 5, 1931, the daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Hingston) Norton. Mrs. Whitford was a lifetime Ticonderoga resident. She was employed by the Ticonderoga Elementary School for many years as a teacher’s aide. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ticonderoga, the Church Choir and a volunteer at the Church Thrift Shop. She was also a member of the Carillon Garden Club and a Girl Scout Troop Leader. Mrs. Whitford was predeceased by one brother, Charles Norton; and by one sister, Margaret Nadeau. Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Harold R. Whitford Sr.; one son, Harold R. Whitford Jr. and his friend, Phyllis Glebus, of Ticonderoga; two daughters, Corby L. Cleveland and her husband, Lynn of Watertown and Lori Olcott and her husband, Gary of Ticonderoga; and five sisters, Helen Poolet of Schroon Lake, B.J. Davis of Poughkeepsie, Rosalie Nichols of Mechanicville, Kay Porter of Ticonderoga and Shirley Norton of Albany. She is also survived by six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home, 11 Algonkin Street, Ticonderoga. A funeral service will take place Saturday at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Ticonderoga. The Rev. Paul L. Dufford Jr., pastor, will officiate. Interment will take place at the family plot of the Valley View Cemetery of Ticonderoga. Donations in her memory may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Wicker Street, Ticonderoga, NY 12883. Viola M. "Vi" SoucyPlattsburgh — Mrs. Viola M. "Vi" Soucy, 89, formerly of Russell Barnard Apartments and most recently Evergreen Valley Nursing Home, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center, with her family at her side. She was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., on July 10, 1913, the daughter of Oreal and Mabel (Conway) Fountain. Viola enjoyed cooking, playing bingo and spending time with her family. Viola was predeceased by her parents, Oreal and Mabel Fountain; her husband, George Soucy; a son, Joseph Soucy; a brother, Oreal Fountain; and a sister, Agnes Rivers. She is survived by a son, Olin Fountain and his wife, Shirley of Plattsburgh; two daughters, Marie McFadden and her husband, Thomas of Rancho Cordova, Calif., and Fran Barnes and her husband, Larry of Syracuse; three sisters, Jessie Collins of Canton, Marie Rivers and her husband, LeRoy of Schenectady and Marilyn Kimball of Schenectady; 23 grandchildren; 17 great - grandchildren; several great -great - grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling hours will be Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. St. John’s Church, Treadwells Mills, with the Rev. William G. Reamer, chaplain at CVPH Medical Center, as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Rouses Point. Friends wishing may make donations to the Activities Room at Evergreen Valley Nursing Home. **Memorial Service**PENDLEY — E. Ann Pendley died Sept. 1, 2002, in Punxsutawney, Pa. A memorial service will be held for her Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, at 1 p.m. at Turnpike Wesleyan Church, 2224 Military Turnpike, Plattsburgh.
