Published: 09/11/02Leighton W. NephewLady Lake, Fla. — Mr. Leighton W. Nephew, formerly of Savannah, Ga., and River Bend Drive, Plattsburgh, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, Sept. 8, 2002, at the Ocala Regional Medical Center in Ocala, Fla. He was born in Altona, the son of Jerry and Delsie (Rushford) Nephew. Leighton was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving as corporal in the U.S. Army. He had worked for Diamond National Corporation here in Plattsburgh until being transferred Natchez, Miss., as a instrument technician supervisor. He graduated from DeVry Institute, the National College of Arts and Sciences at Tulsa, Okla. with a master of science degree in electrical engineering and went to worked for Parsons and Whittemore in New York City, where he was instrument engineer. He worked on many domestic and overseas projects, places as Virginia, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Egypt, Ethiopia and Thailand. Leighton retired as senior project engineer in the Corporate Division with Union Camp Paper Corporation in Savannah, Ga., now known as International Paper. Leighton was a Life Member of the Knights of Columbus Council 255, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks in Pensacola Beach, Fla., Lodge 2256. Leighton was an avid golfer, a HAM radio operator and especially enjoyed taking cruises with his wife, Lorraine. A devoted loving husband Leighton is survived by his wife, Lorraine (Parsons) Nephew of Lady Lake, Fla., whom he married June 2, 1951; two sisters, Edna Clark of Plattsburgh and Loyola Coolidge and her husband, Walter of Altona; his sisters-in-law, Rita Nephew of Mineville, Thelma Nephew of Plattsburgh, Gloria Nephew of Altona and Irene Deyo and her husband, Alden of Altona; several nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Leighton was predeceased by his parents, Jerry and Delsie Nephew; and his brothers, Leonard, Orville and Clement Nephew. Calling hours will be Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday at 1 p.m. at St. Peter’s Church. Interment will follow in St. Ann’s Cemetery in Mooers Forks. Members of Knights of Columbus Council 255 are asked to meet Wednesday at 6:15 p.m. at the funeral home for services. Members of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Plattsburgh Lodge 621 are asked to meet Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home for services. Kenneth M. DelisleDANNEMORA — Kenneth M. Delisle, 51, of Carter Court, died Monday, Sept. 9, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center. He was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., on Dec. 9, 1950, the son of John and Lillian (Brothers) Delisle. Kenneth graduated from Plattsburgh High School. He worked as a correction officer for Clinton Correctional Facility for 22 years, retiring May 31, 2002. Mr. Delisle married Mary L. Hoy on June 21, 1973, in Cadyville. He was a loving, caring and supportive husband, father and grandfather. He loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was devoted to ensuring his family had what they needed and wanted. Kenneth was an avid hunter and fisherman and he enjoyed bowling. He was loved by many and will be desperately missed. Kenneth was a member of the Clinton Correctional Golf League and the West Plattsburgh American Legion Post 1619 Horseshoe League. Survivors include his wife, Mary of Dannemora; two daughters and one son-in-law, Amy and Todd Rabideau of Plattsburgh and Jennifer Delisle of Morrisonville; his mother, Lillian Delisle of Plattsburgh; two brothers, Roy Delisle of Plattsburgh and John Delisle Jr. of Plattsburgh; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Wanda and Christopher LaRose of Plattsburgh and Melissa Delisle of Plattsburgh; two grandchildren, Kiersten Rabideau and Austin Rabideau of Plattsburgh; and 5 nieces and 16 nephews. He was predeceased by his father, John Delisle. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church in Dannemora. Entombment will follow in Whispering Maples Memorial Gardens, Tom Miller Road, Plattsburgh. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of the North Country. A reception will be held following the funeral at the Clinton Correctional QWL Building in Dannemora. Dale William ManorChateaugay — Dale William Manor, 43, of West Main Street, Chateaugay, died Sept. 9, 2002, at Alice Hyde Medical Center, Malone, N.Y. He was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., on June 5, 1959, the son of Eldmour and Gladys (Mesick) Manor. He was married to Elaine Thibeault on July 19, 1986, in Ellenburg. She survives. Mr. Manor is survived by his wife of 16 years; his parents, Eldmour and Gladys Manor of Mooers Forks; a son, Jesse Manor of Chateaugay, N.Y.; three brothers and a sister-in-law, Alan Manor of Mooers Forks, N.Y., William and Julie Manor of Mooers Forks, N.Y., and Allen Calhoun of Mooers Forks, N.Y.; a nephew, Austin Manor of Mooers Forks, N.Y.; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, William and Leona Manor; and his maternal grandparents, William and Anita Mesick. Mr. Manor graduated from Northeastern Clinton School. He the U.S. Army in 1982 and was honorably discharged in 1986, was a past member of the Moose Lodge. He loved to hunt and fish. Calling hours will be held at the Chateaugay Funeral Home Friday, Sept. 13, 2002, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, in St Patrick’s Church, with Rev. Ray Moreau officiating. Burial will take place at St. Ann’s Cemetery, Mooers Forks. JOHN HENRY HEALEY, 47, of Lyon Mountain, N.Y., and Dayton, Ohio, died Sept. 7, 2002, after a courageous six-year battle with cancer. He was devoted to his wife and daughters and passed away at home, comforted by them. John was born in Plattsburgh on Sept. 24, 1954, to Julia (Garrow) Healey and the late Harry J. Healey. There will be no calling hours. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Church in Dannemora Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, at 11 a.m. by Rev. John Looby. Immediately following the service, a gathering will be held in the church for family and friends. Mary W. Barry, 80, died Monday afternoon, Sept. 9, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center. Calling hours and funeral arrangements are incomplete as of Tuesday evening at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home. |
