Published 08/27/02Kenneth J. BurlPLATTSBURGH — Mr. Kenneth J. Burl Sr., 67, of Cumberland Head Road, died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002 at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in Plattsburgh on Jan. 14, 1935, son of Orville and Cecile (Peryer) Burl. Kenneth was retired from Georgia Pacific in Plattsburgh after 32 years of service. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Kenneth is survived by his mother, Cecile Burl of Plattsburgh; his wife, the former Lola Wilson, whom he married Oct. 1, 1960 at St. Peter’s Church in Plattsburgh; one son, Kenneth J. Jr. and his wife, Jo, of Queensbury; one daughter, Beth Trela and her husband, Thomas Trela of Selkirk; two granddaughters, Marisa Trela and Carmen Trela of Selkirk; one brother, Louis Burl of Plattsburgh; two sisters, Elizabeth Mooney of Plattsburgh and Elinor Bedard of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; and many nieces and nephews. Arrangements are with Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. LeRoy M. MossLEWIS — LeRoy M. Moss, 71, of Buffalo Center, Iowa, died Aug. 16, 2002 at his home. He was born Feb. 20, 1931, in Lewis, N.Y., the son of Morris and Mardell (Cross) Moss. He entered the service in 1948 and the service became his career. LeRoy was united in marriage to Joan Thompson on Dec. 22, 1954, and they had seven children. LeRoy loved to travel and even after he retired from the U.S. Army in 1968 he continued to work for the U.S. Army Air Force Exchange Service. He and Joan lived in Tacoma, Wash., for several years and returned to Buffalo Center in 1974, where he was employed by Schaeffer Ind. And owned and operated the B.C. Drive Inn for 8½ years. LeRoy was Buffalo Center’s Chief of Police for 3 years in the 1980’s. In 1994 he came home to Buffalo Center to stay. He drove motor homes for Winnebago until he became the Taxi Transit Driver in Forest City, Iowa, a position he dearly enjoyed until he became ill. Roy leaves his wife, Joan; 5 daughters and 2 sons, Vicky and James Hollins of Killeen, Texas, Monica and Greg Tyler of Frost, Minn., Robin and Glenn Daniel of Baltimore, Md., Julie and Steven Via of Jefferson City, Mo., Teri and Scott Mitchell of Colorado Springs, Colo., Ron and Karen Moss and Scott Moss all of Spirit Lake, Idaho; 15 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; his brother, Dale and wife, Joyce Moss of Westport, N.Y. and his mother-in-law, Esther Thompson of Buffalo Center. His parents and father-in-law died earlier. A memorial service was held on Aug. 21, 2002, in Buffalo Center, Iowa. Helen M. JarvisEllenburg — Helen M. Jarvis, 79, of Ellenburg, died Monday, Aug. 26, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. She was born in Churubusco on April 30, 1923, the daughter of Benjamin and Bessie (Breen) Franklin. She was a member of St. Edmund’s Church in Ellenburg. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Elsie Jarvis of Altona; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Joan and Clarence Lucia of Altona, Jean and Roger Bruce of West Chazy and Jan Gillett of Altona; a brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Veronica Franklin of Churubusco; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Grace and Ernie Peryea of Plattsburgh and Ann and John Munson of Plattsburgh; eight grandchildren; three great- grandsons, Tyler, Jake and Dylan ; several nieces and nephews; and her friends at Windy Acres. Her husband, Floyd L. Jarvis died on May 19, 1988. A brother, Gerald Franklin also died earlier. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Ellenburg Depot. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday from St. Edmund’s Church in Ellenburg. Laurie Ann Honsinger RudolphCumberland Head — Laurie Ann Honsinger Rudolph, 42, died Sunday, Aug. 25, 2002, at her residence. She was born in Niagara Falls, N.Y., on July 26, 1960, the daughter of Kermit and Gloria (LaClair) Honsinger Jr. She attended Empire State College and Clinton Community College. She previously served on the Board of Directors of the Center for Independent Living. She was an advocate for people with disabilities. She loved music and ceramics. She is survived by her husband, Glen Rudolph of Cumberland Head; a son, Scott King of Orlando, Fla.; her parents, Kermit Jr. and Gloria Honsinger of Ellenburg Center; a brother, Brian Honsinger of Canyon Lake, Texas; a sister, Lisa Honsinger of San Francisco, Calif.; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Strack of Wagon Wheel Trail, passed away Monday, Aug. 26, 2002, at her home following a long illness. She was 76. She was born on May 30, 1926, in Keeseville, N.Y., the daughter of the late Rena and Anthony Samohel. After graduating from Keeseville High School, she moved to Ilion, N.Y., where she worked at Remington Arms as a secretary during World War II. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard N. Strack, whom she married on June 22, 1946. Prior to 1949, they resided in Cambridge and Tupper Lake before settling in Saratoga Springs, where they raised their family of 8 children. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She enjoyed bowling, gardening, quilting and trips to Las Vegas and Mohegan Sun. Survivors include five sons, Harry R. Strack and his friend, Alice Lee of Green Clove Springs, Fla.; Michael A. Strack and his wife, Penelope of Austin, Texas, Martin J. Strack and his fiancee, Amy Brennan, Patrick J. Strack and his wife, Ann Marie and Peter D. Strack and his wife, Kwang Hee, all of Saratoga Springs; three daughters, Sandra R. Gehring and her friend, William Cherry, Karen M. DemersCHAMPLAIN — Catherine M. Demers, 81, of Prospect Street, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, at Cedar Hedge Nursing Home, with her loving husband and family by her side. Catherine was born on June 15, 1921, in Ramsbottom, Lancashire, England. She was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Lomax) Dunne, also of Ramsbottom. Catherine is survived by her devoted husband of over 27 years, Paul A. Demers. Paul and Catherine were married on Dec. 7, 1972. He was her best friend. Her four children also survive her, Mr. and Mrs. Guy (Mary Jo Ferris) Juneau, Mr. and Mrs. Peter (Patricia Ferris) Beebie, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Ferris and Mr. and Mrs. Leland (Rev. Rebecca Ferris) Emery; eight grandchildren, Mr. and Mrs. Jason Juneau, Mr. and Mrs. Paul (Jennifer Juneau) Lederman, Mr. and Mrs. Matthew (Amanda Brown) Whalen, Mr. and Mrs. David (Robin Brown) Trudeau, Mr. and Mrs. Sean (Nichole Emery) Reynaud, Ms. Danielle Emery, Mr. Aaron Ferris and Ms. Erin Gillick and Ms. Brooke Ferris; six great-grand- children, Alexander and Olivia Trudeau, Noah John Lederman, Jacob and Nicholas Reynaud and Dylan Emery; a great-grand-daughter, Shauna Ferris, is due to arrive any day. Also, numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews survive her. Catherine was a Corporal in the Royal Air Force of Great Britain during World War II. She was also a member of the Daughters of the British Empire. There she met her first husband, Ernest Norman Ferris, who was an American soldier stationed in England. He predeceased her on Oct. 1, 1972. Catherine loved to cook for her family and also loved gardening. She took great joy in spending time with her grandchildren and teaching her granddaughters how to knit and crochet. She was a member of the Three Steeples United Methodist Church. Calling hours will be on Thursday, Aug. 29, 2002, from 1 to 3 p.m., with a service and burial immediately following. Arrangements are with MB Clark Funeral Home in Champlain. The Champlain Knights of Columbus will host a dinner after the ceremonies.
