Clifton P. "Cliff" Buckley

Beekmantown — Mr. Clifton P. "Cliff" Buckley, 74, of Buckley Way, passed away Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center surrounded by his family.

He was born in Redford on June 13, 1928, the son of Patrick and Mamie (Bell) Buckley.

Cliff graduated from Harrison High School in Harrison, N.Y., and was a veteran of Korea serving in the U.S. Navy from 1948 to 1952.

He developed Stony Acres Mobile Home Park in Beekmantown and owned and operated it with his wife, Geri until his death.

Cliff was a member of the American Legion Post 20 in Plattsburgh, the Knights of Columbus Council 255 of Plattsburgh, and he was a life member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Plattsburgh Lodge 621. He was the past president of the Plattsburgh Men’s Bowling Association and he enjoyed bowling, playing golf and traveling. Cliff was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in West Chazy.

He is survived by his wife, Geraldine H. "Geri" (Premore) Buckley of Beekmantown, whom he married June 13, 1953, at Our Lady of Victory Church in Plattsburgh; a daughter, Susan Buckley and her children, Jonathan, Nicholas and Benjamin of Beekmantown; a son, Michael Buckley his wife, Cathy and their children, Olivia and Ian of Beekmantown; a brother, Leland "Lee" Buckley and his wife, Carol of Beekmantown; a sister, Ila Buckley of La Paz, Mexico; several nieces and nephews.

Cliff was predeceased by his parents, Patrick and Mamie Buckley; his brothers, Bernard and Donald Buckley.

Calling hours will be Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. from St. Joseph’s Church in West Chazy. Interment will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Plattsburgh.

Friends wishing may make donations to Neurological Research or the American Heart Association.

Members of the Knights of Columbus Council 255 are asked to meet Saturday at 7:30 p.m. for services. Members of the American Legion Post 10 are asked to meet Sunday at 3 p.m. for services. Members of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Plattsburgh Lodge 621 are asked to meet Sunday evening at 7 p.m. for services.

Elizabeth Ellen LaMountain

Westport — Elizabeth Ellen LaMountain, 82, of Main Street, Westport, died Friday, Aug. 23, 2002, at the Elizabethtown Community Hospital in Elizabethtown.

She was born in Plattsburgh, Jan. 29, 1920, the daughter of Frank and Florence (Scott) Merrow.

Ellen worked in the cafeteria at the Westport Central School for 9 years.

She was a member for 54 years and treasurer for 48 years of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

She enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles.

Survivors include one son, Ronald LaMountain of Jacksonville, Fla.; a daughter, Diane LaMountain of Westport; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Ruth and Arthur Donaldson Sr., Margaret and Ralph Atwell and Marjorie Garcia, all of Westport; three grandchildren, Joelle Nesbitt, Eric LaMountain and Amy Sedivec; three great - grandchildren, Allanah and Edward Nesbitt and Sarah Sedivec; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Sunday, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Westport. A funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Westport Federated Church, with Rev. Fred Shaw, pastor of the United Church of Christ in Elizabethtown, officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Philip Neri Cemetery in Westport.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Westport Emergency Squad or the American Cancer Society.

Mary Ann "Nancy" Cuddy

LAKE PLACID — Mary Ann "Nancy" Cuddy of 2 West Heights, Lake Placid, died on Friday, Aug. 23, 2002, at the Uihlein Mercy Center, Lake Placid, N.Y.

Nancy was born in Syracuse, N.Y., on Oct. 12, 1926, the daughter of John and Marjorie (Underdown) Cuddy.

She was a graduate of Eastman School of Dental Hygiene and Syracuse University. She served on the dental staff of the Veterans Hospital in Syracuse. Her first teaching assignment was at Lake Placid Central School in the late 40’s and early 50’s. She completed her teaching career at the West Genesee School System in Syracuse.

Nancy was a member of the New York State Teachers Association, the New York State United Teachers Association and AARP.

During her teaching career, she was very active in student activities and served in many capacities in her local teachers associations. Miss Cuddy was a member of the Saint Agnes Church Court Tom Dooley Catholic Daughters of America.

In addition to her parent, other members of her family who have predeceased her are her sisters, Eleanor Gorman; and a nephew, David Gorman.

She is survived by a nephew, James Gorman and his wife. Christine; several cousins; and a very close friend, Cornelia "Connie" Bonsignore.

There will be no calling hours. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Agnes Church on Monday, Aug. 26, 2002, at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in the North Elba Cemetery, Lake Placid. Immediately following the graveside services a reception will be held at Howard Johnson’s Restaurant for family and friends.

Charles R. Barnes

PLATTSBURGH — Charles R. Barnes, 76, of Beekman Street, died Friday, Aug. 23, 2002, at his residence.

He was born in Plattsburgh on April 22, 1926, the son of Raymond and Ann (Robare) Barnes.

Charles married the former Annette B. Murray in 1949 at St. John’s Church. She predeceased him in November 1989.

Mr. Barnes graduated from MAI in Plattsburgh and attended Champlain College.

He later served in the U. S. Army Air Corps from July of 1944 to September of 1946.

He worked for Parkhurst and Taylor Insurance Company for several years and became vice-president of the company. In 1966, Mr. Barnes purchased the business.

Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Judith and Christopher Chapman of Bethlehem, Pa., Joan and Michael Howley of Plattsburgh and Janice and Timothy Foley of Port Orange, Fla.; one son, Roger Barnes of Charlotte, Vt.; 11 grandchildren, Christopher Chapman, Jeremy Chapman, Ian Chapman, Elizabeth Howley, Brian Howley, Evan Howley, Adam Douglas, Breanne Douglas, Amanda Fowley, Nathan Fowley and Matthew Barnes; and two great - grandsons.

Along with his wife, Annette, Mr. Barnes was predeceased by a son, Charles "Jeff" Barnes in 1993; and a brother, Albert Barnes.

There will be no public calling hours. Services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Lewis Bradford Francis

Isle La Motte, Vt — Lewis Bradford Francis, 60, died unexpectedly Thursday evening, Aug. 22, 2002, at his home on North Shore Road.

He was born in Maiden, Mass., March 20,1942, the son of the late Bradford Gale and Rolene Lorraine (Davenport) Francis.

He attended schools in Massachusetts and on March 18, 1972, married the former Theresa Theoret who survives him.

For over 20 years Lewis was associated with the Central Vermont Railroad.

He was a former member of the Loyal Order of Moose and the Saint Albans Jaycees as well as the Alburg Lions Club and Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad.

He faithfully served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.

In addition to his wife, Theresa of Isle La Motte, Lewis leaves five daughters and their husbands, Bonnie and Kevin Creller of Alburg, Lisa and Dale Estes of AuSable Forks, N.Y., Tammy and Tim Poquette of Bristol, Vt., Laurie and Rick Menk of Tampa, Fla., and Katie and Kevin Field of Aviano, Italy; three sons, Gary Ratta Jr. and his wife, Tammy of Clovis, N.M., James Ratta and his wife, Laura of Wickliff, Ky., and Robert Francis and his wife, Bonnie of Rouses Point, N.Y.; one sister, Diane Cipriano and her husband, Leo of Melrose, Mass; two brothers, Felton Francis and Glenn Francis and his wife, Robin all of Wakefield, N.H.; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Shirley and Ray Henderson and Kathy and Terry Tatro all of Alburg; 25 grandchildren; four great - grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services and interment will be held later and at the convenience of the family.

Gifts in memory of Lewis may be made to the Alburg Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 223, Alburg, VT 05440.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton, Vt.

Eddie Jones, 79, of Leonard Avenue, died Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002, at his home with his loving wife at his side.

He was born in Trenton, N.C., on June 5, 1923, son of the late Aaron Herbert and Edna (Green) Jones.

Calling hours will be Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will follow in the Brown Funeral Home Chapel. Following cremation interment will be at the convenience of the family.

Elizabeth Virginia Benefield Goldthwait, 84, of St. Augustine, Fla., died Aug. 16, 2002, at Flaglar Hospital.

Funeral services were held at Craig Funeral Home and Crematory in St. Augustine, Fla.
