Pearson, 86, of the Clinton County Nursing Home and formerly of Court Street, Plattsburgh, died Monday, Aug. 19, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in Sheffield, Pa., Nov. 21, 1915, the son of August S. and Esther (Wallin) Pearson. Mr. Pearson graduated from Montclair High School in New Jersey in 1934 and Upsala College in East Orange, N.J., in 1938. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp. during World War II and was a Buck Sergeant with the 11th B24 Bomber Outfit. Paul was the president of the Montclair Savings Bank in Montclair, N.J., prior to his retirement in 1974. He was a member of the Peru Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 309, American Legion in Milford, Pa., past Rotary Member, member of the board of the Salvation Army for years and was treasurer for drives, member of the board of Upsala College, member of the board and treasurer of the First Lutheran Church in Montclair, N.J., superintendent of the Sunday School and sang in the Church Choir. He enjoyed playing tennis and won many tournaments. Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, James and Sandra Pearson, Thomas and Karen Pearson and Robert Pearson, all of Plainfield, Vt.; one daughter and son-in-law, Linda Pearson and Danny Hackel of Ellenburg Center; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Jane Easterbrook of Salt Lake City, Utah, Winnie and Daniel Cronin of Virginia and Connie and Art Johnson of Brockton, Mass.; 7 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Elsie Louise Pearson; a brother, Luther Pearson; and two sisters, Martha Morrissey and Doris Olsen. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru, with Rev. Julie Bergdahl, pastor of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Plattsburgh, officiating. A graveside service will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Restland Memorial Park in East Hanover, N.J. Donations in his memory may be made to the American Lung Association. Gladys GadwayBERRIEN SPRINGS, MICH. — Gladys Gadway, 88, formerly of Saranac, N.Y., died Friday, Aug. 16, 2002, at Orchard Grove Extended Care Centre in Benton Harbor, Mich., following an illness. She was born Dec. 18, 1913, in England, the daughter of William and Ellen (Negus) Bell. She married Owen Gadway on July 28, 1932. Gladys was a longtime resident of Saranac and a member of the High Banks Seventh Day Adventist Church. While residing in Berrien Springs, she attended Pioneer Memorial Church for the past several years. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Gordon and Marjorie Gadway of Berrien Springs, Mich., and Arthur and Carolyn Gadway of Glens Falls, N.Y.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one sister, Alice Blacklock of Oshowa, Ontario; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Owen in 1980; one son, Robert Gadway who died Sept. 14, 1945; three brothers, Albert Bell, Robert Bell and Fred Bell; and three sisters, Ann Walde, Lucy McKibbon and Ellen Parker. HoffmanPLATTSBURGH — Marie E. Hoffman, 83, formerly of Oak Street, died Monday, Aug. 19, 2002, at the Evergreen Valley Nursing Home. She was born in Greenfield, Mass., on Dec. 14, 1918, the daughter of Albert and Emelia (Barrett) Jones. Marie married Theodore E. Hoffman Sr. in Troy in 1939. Theodore died in 1972. She was a member of St. Peter's Church. She was a former 4H Club Youth Leader in Troy, N.Y., a former member of the Board of Education in Center Brunswick, N.Y., an active participant and board member of the Home Bureau/Cooperative Extension in Rensselaer County, The Clinton County Association of the Visually Impaired and the Golden Age Club. Marie worked for Montgomery Wards as a clerk in Menands, as a teacher's aide at Brittonkill School District in Brunswick, N.Y., and an activities director at Eden Park Nursing Home in Troy, N.Y., for 10 years. She moved to Plattsburgh in 1979 and was activities director at Evergreen Valley Nursing Home from 1980 until retiring in 1994. Marie enjoyed crocheting, camping and bird watching. She was an avid reader and creative writer. She enjoyed activities at the senior center and any opportunity to be with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Betty Ann and James King of Cadyville; one son and daughter-in-law, Theodore and Betty Jane Hoffman Jr. of Dallas, Texas; one sister, Margaret Coons of Ocala, Fla.; six grandchildren and their spouses, Heidi King and Eric Washburn of Rochester, N.Y., James and Karen King of Anoka, Minn., Kelly King and Sarah Sames of San Ramon, Calif., Katie King and Toby Walrath of Plattsburgh, Kimberly Hoffman and Taylor Hoffman of Dallas, Texas; and three great - grandchildren, Aaron King of Anoka, Andrew Washburn and Hannah Marie Washburn of Rochester. Robert Craig AdamsWILLSBORO — Robert Craig Adams, 82 of Willsboro, NY, died Monday afternoon, Aug. 19, 2002, at the Elizabethtown Community Hospital. Bob Adams was born on April 25, 1920, the son of John Adams and Ruth Garvey. Bob graduated from Willsboro Central School with a NYS Regents Diploma, He proudly served his country as a sergeant with the China Service Command in the U.S. Army on the Pacific front during World War II. As a member of an elite horse cavalry, he served on the famed Burma Trail, as well as in India and French Indochina and was part of the small group who aided the escape of Chiang Kai-Shek from China to Formosa. In addition to the Asiatic - Pacific Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and a World War Two Victory Medal, he was the recipient of a Foreign Service Citation from the Formosan government. Bob was co-owner and operator of his own gas station and repair garage in Sheridan, N.Y., and was employed for many years at the Plattsburgh Air Force Base, serving as a trainer and heavy equipment mechanic. He taught electrical repair at Clinton Community College. Additionally, he was elected for two terms as Tax Assessor of Willsboro. In 1946, he married Florence Lucille Walawender of Dunkirk, N.Y.; Their marriage lasted 43 years until her death in 1989. He was a devoted husband and remained so for the remainder of his life. He will be missed by three daughters and their husbands, Michael and Roberta Radloff of Saranac Lake, Ronald and Barbara Jackson of Essex and Tom and Marguerite Leonard of Willsboro; and a son, Robert C. Adams Jr., of Coos Bay, Ore.; six grandchildren, Susan Wallace., Justin Jackson, Craig Jackson, William Radloff and Kaitlyn and Thomas Leonard, and four great-grandchildren, Warren and Benjamin Jackson and Alyson and Asher Wallace. Bob is also survived by a sister, Phebe Begly of Willsboro; a brother, Donald Adams of Southport, N.C., and a sister-in-law, Adeline Adams of Gansevoort, N.Y. MARIANNE BUJAKIEWICZ, 77, of Terrace West Way, Plattsburgh, died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center.
