Helen M. LaValley

Champlain — Helen M. LaValley, 71, of Champlain, passed away Thursday, Aug. 15, 2002, at her home.

She was born Dec. 2, 1930, in Champlain, the daughter of Willard and Aurore (LaFountain) Ducharme.

She graduated from Chazy Central Rural High School in 1949. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, crocheting, rug making, knitting and baby-sitting. She and her husband were caretakers of St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Coopersville for 25 years.

She was predeceased by her parents and five children.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Walter LaValley of Champlain; four sons, Wayne and Celine LaValley of Champlain, Mike and Karen LaValley of Champlain, Rodney LaValley and his companion Donna Fletcher of Champlain and James LaValley and his companion Kate Jeffries of Champlain; one daughter, Susan and Timothy Pelkey of Champlain; one brother, Gerard and Genevieve Ducharme of Champlain; one sister, Henrietta and Alfred Jr. Babbie of Champlain; and ten grandchildren.

Calling hours will be Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home in Champlain. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Church in Coopersville.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph's Church in Coopersville or the Rouses Point Rescue Squad.

Ernest E. Bodette Jr.

Plattsburgh — Ernest E. Bodette Jr., 75, a retired Denver Public Schools social worker, died suddenly on May 10, 2002, following a heart attack on May 7.

He was born in Champlain, N.Y., on Nov. 27, 1926, son of the late Ernest E. and Dorothy (LaVenture) Bodette Sr.

A native of Plattsburgh, Ernie graduated from St. John's Academy. He received his BA and MSW degrees at the University of Denver.

He is survived by his aunt, Doris Rivers; cousins, Barbara Case, Gillis Loyd Green and Donna St. Denis, all of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Beulah King of Deming N.M., Jackie Flynn of Burlington, Vt., Joy Crawford of Keysville, Va., and Jane Peryea of Altona, N.Y.; long-time friend James Meier of Aurora, Colo.; and his extended family members.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2002, at 11 a.m. from the Brown Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established. Contributions may be sent to Hospice of Metro Denver, 425 S. Cherry Street, Suite 700, Denver, CO 80246.

Gladys Gadway, 88, of Berrien Springs, Mich., and formerly of Saranac, N.Y., died Friday, Aug. 16, 2002, at Orchard Grove Extended Care Centre in Benton Harbor, Mich., following an illness.

She was born on Dec. 18, 1913, in England, the daughter of William and Ellen (Negus) Bell.

Arrangements are incomplete at this time with the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

Gerard Gregoire, 79, of Rouses Point, died Friday, Aug. 16, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

There will be no public calling hours. A full obituary will appear in the newspaper at a later date. Arrangements are with the Clark Funeral Home in Rouses Point.

The Reverend Karl Edward Cron of Plattsburgh died of cancer on Aug. 16, 2002, at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany.

Reverend Cron was the pastor of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Plattsburgh from 1965 to 1998. He was born March 2, 1938, in Brooklyn, N.Y.

A full obituary will follow when arrangements for the memorial service are complete.

Harriet M Jarvis, 90, of Ellenburg Depot, died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

Calling hours will be Monday, Aug. 19, 2002, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the E.F. Drown Funeral service in Ellenburg Depot. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11 a.m. from St. Edmund's Church in Ellenburg.
