Marjorie J. McCormick

Ticonderoga — Marjorie J. McCormick, 80, of Champlain Avenue, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, at the Moses - Ludington Hospital of Ticonderoga.

She was born in Ticonderoga, Sept. 2, 1921, the daughter of the late Patrick and Ethel (Bessett) Malaney.

Mrs. McCormick was a life-long Ticonderoga resident. She was a communicant of St, Mary’s Catholic Church of Ticonderoga.

She served as village clerk of Ticonderoga for 26 years until her retirement in 1990. She also served on the board of directors of the Office for the Aging.

Mrs. McCormick was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Court of St. Mary’s 794 and a former member of the B.P.W., both of Ticonderoga.

Her husband, Francis E. McCormick, predeceased her in 1963. She was also predeceased by one daughter, Carol Jean McCormick; a brother, John Malaney; and a sister, Mary Donovan.

Survivors include one son, Thomas W. McCormick of Las Vegas, Nev.; one daughter, Marianne McCormick of Ticonderoga; two brothers, Donald Malaney of Flintstone, Md., and Richard Malaney of Putnam Station; and one sister, Elizabeth Ward of Witherbee. She is also survived by four grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and a cousin, Jolie Morin of South Glens Falls.

Relatives and friends may call Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home, 11 Algonkin St., Ticonderoga. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Ticonderoga. The Rev. William G. Muench, pastor, will officiate. The Rite of Committal will follow at the family plot of St. Mary’s Parish Cemetery of Ticonderoga.

Roger J. LaFontaine

Dannemora — Roger J. LaFontaine, 84, died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born in Dannemora on Jan. 23, 1918, the son of Vivian and Virginia (Fassette) LaFontaine.

He was a correction officer at Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora for over 35 years.

He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 2166 in Dannemora, the Dannemora Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a former member of the American Legion. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church.

He was an avid sportsman and loved Chazy Lake.

He is survived by a son, William LaFontaine of Bethel, Vt., and his best friend, Paula Beal; a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Michael Cooper of Milford, Mass.; four grandchildren, Elisa, Rebecca, Kari Lynn and Laura; and a great-grandchild, Aidan.

His wife, Claire LaFontaine died in 1985. Five brothers and three sisters also died earlier.

Calling hours will be held on Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the O'Neill - Redden - Drown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. Members of Knights of Columbus Council 2166 are asked to meet at the funeral home at 6:30 p.m. for services. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday from St Joseph’s Church in Dannemora. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. A reception will follow at St. Joseph’s Parish Hall.

Vernon L. (Peck) Sprague

MORIAH, NEW YORK — Vernon L. (Peck) Sprague, 83, of Windy Hill Road, Moriah, N.Y., died Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vt.

He was born in Moriah, N.Y., on Nov. 4, 1918, the son of Charles and Nellie (Phinney) Sprague.

He graduated from Sherman Collegiate Institute in Moriah in 1937. He was a World War II veteran having served in an U.S. Army Anti-aircraft Unit in Okinawa and Korea.

Vernon was a former employee of Republic Steel Corp. in Mineville, N.Y., and was employed many years in construction.

He was grateful to have lived his life in a small country town in the mountains. His was a life filled with outdoor activity, including many years of fishing and hunting. He was a sports enthusiast who played basketball and baseball on school and town teams, and enjoyed playing golf.

His greatest love was his family, he is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jean; one son and daughter-in-law, Derek and Loni Sprague of Moriah Center; four daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Joe Lashway of Moriah, Jeanne and Ed LeClair of Port Henry, Joni and Dwight Burkett of North Ferrisburgh, Vt. and Lori and Ed Vogel of Loudonville, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Louise Sprague of Moriah; one sister, Gertrude of Newcomb, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; three brothers; Leon, Lloyd and Gordon; and three sisters, Flora, Marjorie and Kathleen.

At his request, there will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002, at 10 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, Moriah, N.Y. Burial will be in the South Moriah Cemetery, Moriah, N.Y.

The family requests that any donations be made to the Town of Moriah Ambulance Squad.

Marijan Bartula, 70, of Beekman Towers, died on Wednesday, August 7, 2002, at the CVPH Medical in Plattsburgh.

He was born in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia, on May 9, 1932.

Calling hours will be Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002, from 11 a.m. to noon at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will be held Saturday at noon from the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery.

Samantha Wade Whitney, infant of one day, passed away Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

Samantha was born on Aug. 5, 2002, the daughter of Wade and Tonya (Collins) Whitney,

Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

SPENCER WILLIAM LABOMBARD, 61, of Belton, Texas, died Saturday, July 27, 2002, at Belton VA Hospital in Texas.

He was born in Plattsburgh on March 31, 1941, the son of Myra (Wilcox) and Lawrence LaBombard.

Interment is in FT Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.
