Marian W. Currier

WELLESLEY HILLS, MASS. — Marian W. Currier (Weir), a longtime Wellesley Hills resident, passed away July 30, 2002, in The Elizabeth Seton Residence, in Wellesley Hills. She was 84.

Mrs. Currier was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., to the late George A. and Edith (Walsh) Weir.

She graduated from Plattsburgh High School, Class of 1936, Plattsburgh Normal School in 1939, Syracuse University in 1940, Syracuse Secretarial School in 1941, and State University of New York in 1949. She held a bachelor degree in science.

She was secretary to Dr. Ira A. Flinner, headmaster of Northwood School at Lake Placid Club from 1941 to 1944. When the government took over Northwood School and Lake Placid Club in September 1944 for a U.S. Army Redistribution Station, she stayed on with the government for one year to do secretarial work under civil service.

From September 1945 to June 1947 she taught in Goshen, N.Y. In her second year she had an all day kindergarten program. The remainder of her teaching career was in Melrose, Mass., teaching third grade until her retirement in 1972.

She was the, wife of 42 years to the late Charles Currier, who passed away in 1999. Besides the academic and business training, she studied music and art. She also had considerable experience in public and radio singing. She was a past member of The Presbyterian Church of Plattsburgh and a current member of The Wellesley Hills Congregational Church. She was also a member of The Wellesley Hills Women’s Club and The Historical Society.

She is survived by her stepdaughters, Linda S. Jette of Atkinson, N.H., and Nancy J. Gourd of Marlboro, Mass. She is also survived by her cousins, June Horn of Florida and James Walsh of Endicott, N.Y. She was the sister of the late Doris Christiana.

A funeral service was held on Thursday August 1, 2002, at the Wellesley Hills Congregational Church. Reverend Craig B. Adam officiated the ceremony. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery, Plattsburgh, N.Y.

Arrangements were by the Henry J. Burke & Sons Funeral Home, Wellesley Hills.

Alfred E. Lee

Willsboro, N.Y. — Alfred E. Lee, 74, of Bay Road, Willsboro, N.Y., died at CVPH Medical Center on Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, after a 28 year battle with rheumatoid arthritis.

He was born in Willsboro on March 7, 1928, the son of Henry "Bob" and Mabel (Blanchard) Lee.

Mr. Lee was in the U.S. Coast Guard stationed in Newfoundland, where he served as a radarman 3rd class and received a World War II victory ribbon.

He was a member of the Keeseville Veterans of Foreign War 1505, Keeseville BPOE 2072, and Uncle Jake’s Hunting Club.

He worked for the railroad for nine years, Cabot Corp. for 17 years and the Plattsburgh Air Force Base for 20 years, retiring in 1992.

Alfred is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marion (LaPine) Lee; four sons and their wives, John and Laura Lee of Willsboro, Terry and Sandy Lee of Athena, Ore., Carlton and Suzanne Lee of Sandston, Va., and Tim and Lynn Lee of Lewis, N.Y. He is also survived by a brother and his wife, Earl and Carol Lee of Greenville, Mich.; a sister, Alcia Lee of Colorado Springs, Colo.; brother-in-law, Reg Moro of Westport; grandchildren Jason, Andrew, Todd, Kevin, Matthew and Celeste Lee; and several nieces and nephews.

He was pre deceased by his parents; and a sister, Alice Mero

Calling hours will be held at the Huestis Funeral Home, Willsboro on Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, at 11 a.m. Burial will. follow in Memorial Cemetery, LakeShore Road, Willsboro.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Willsboro Rescue Squad.

Donald J. "Buck" Lucia

Plattsburgh — Donald J. "Buck" Lucia passed away July 20, 2002, at Meadowbrook Health Care Facility in Plattsburgh.

He was born in Chazy on Sept. 19, 1922.

He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps at CCC Camp A-4, Plattsburgh, N.Y., and was honorable discharged on Sept. 30, 1937.

He married Miss Frances (Stacey) in 1975 and they were married until her death in 1989.

He managed and owned the Dawn Motel for many years in Plattsburgh. He worked for Green Thumb Services and Clinton County State Parks.

He was an avid reader and enjoyed western novels. He took storytelling and made it into an art form. He was always willing to lend a helping hand with a smile.

He is survived by his brother, George (Mary) Breyette of Winooski, Vt.; nieces, Rosemary (Gerald) Monty, Starr (Kevin) Fabreav, Francesann (Roland) LaFrance, Betsy (Jeff) Trombley, Maureen (Gary) Cane, Linda (Robert) Smith and Laurie (Steven) Swoffer; nephews, Bruce Latour, Donald Dapo, Keith G. Lucia, Ryan C. Lucia, Carl (Debbie) Brown, David (Wendy), Carl (Joan), Gene (Denise), Steven and Donald J. Loveless and Wayne (Shirley) and Francis Corbierre; sister-in-law, Margaret Lavine; and brother-in-laws, Harold Loveless and Arthur and Marvin Stacey. He is also survived by many grandnieces and nephews and numerous cousins.

Besides his wife, Frances Lucia he was predeceased by his parents, Henry J. and Phoebe (Nee) Ackey; sisters, Lena Demingway of New Hampshire and Helene Latour of West Chazy; brothers, Gerald J. Lucia of Michigan and Henry J. Lucia of Plattsburgh; sister-in-law, Caroline Loveless; and nephew, Wayne Loveless.

A memorial service will be held Aug. 10, 2002, at Whispering Maples Mausoleum in Plattsburgh at noon with Reverend Anthony Diobel presiding.

Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

MURIEL SOUTH, 73, of Driftwood Trailer Park, Tavernier, Fla., and formerly of Scott Drive, Malone, N.Y., died Monday afternoon, Aug. 5, 2002, at the Baptist Hospital in Miami, Fla., where she had been a patient since July 12.

She was born in Malone on April 15, 1929, the daughter of the late Jacob and Gertrude (Barton) Lamica.

Calling hours will be Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at Notre Dame Church in Malone. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery.

VERNON "PECK" SPRAGUE of Moriah, N.Y., died Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care, Burlington, Vt.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the Harland Funeral Home, Port Henry, N.Y.

David D. Vancour, 51, of the Stayley Road in Peru, died on Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, at his home.

He was born in Plattsburgh on Feb. 9, 1951, son of Leonard G. and Marion M. (Canfield) Vancour.

The family will have a memorial service at a later date.

MAYHEW — There will be a memorial service and social hour for the former Plattsburgh resident, Jeffrey A. Mayhew, from 1 to 4 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, at the United Methodist Church on Beekman Street in Plattsburgh. Mr. Mayhew died Jan. 13, 2002, at his home in Atwater, Calif. All friends of the family are invited to attend. The R.W. Walker Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

FASSETT — A memorial service will be held on August 8, 2002 at St. Peter's Church at 11:00 a.m. for Beatrice N. Fassett, 84, of Valehaven in Peru, who died Sunday July 21, 2002 at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

She was born in Lyon Mountain, on March 11, 1918, the daughter of Willard and Zelda (Lancto) Baker.
