James "Bucky" Carpenter

WESTPORT — James "Bucky" Carpenter, 60, of Westport, N.Y., died suddenly, Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002, at his home.

He was born March 3, 1942, in Elizabethtown, N.Y., the son of Francis R. and Mary (Gerow) Carpenter.

Bucky graduated from Westport High and worked for many years for the Town of Westport. He was a 40-year member and past chief of the Westport Volunteer Fire Dept., Commissioner of the Westport Fire District, a Lieutenant of the Westport Coldwater Rescue Dive Team, a member of the Westport Emergency Squad, the Northern New York Volunteer Fireman’s Assoc., the NYS Association of Fire Chiefs, a DEC Bowhunter Education Instructor, member of the Westport Fish and Game Club, an Essex Co. Deputy Fire Coordinator and an Essex Co. Fire Investigator.

He is survived by his father and stepmother, Anna, of Port Henry; a sister and brother -in- law, Jean and Russell Paquette of Westport; a niece, Michelle Paquette of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and an aunt and two cousins.

Calling hours will be held Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at Marvin's Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Philip Neri Church in Westport. Burial will be in St. Philip Neri Cemetery.

Theodore F. Gorman

Mooers Forks — Theodore F. Gorman, 59, died Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, in Dover Plains, N.Y.

He was born in Plattsburgh on Jan. 10, 1942, the son of Francis F. and Catherine S. (Calkins) Gorman.

He attended school in Mooers and was employed at Georgia-Pacific in Plattsburgh for the past 24 years.

He is survived by his companion, Diane Palmer of Mooers Forks; their children: two sons, Frank and William Helm of Mooers Forks; three daughters and a son-in-law, Carla Belrose of Champlain, Vickie Coupal of Rouses Point and Tammie and Leo Guay of Averill Park; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Molly and Jim Rock of Keeseville, Ginger Drollette of Cadyville and Audrey Bradley of Peru; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

His mother and father, Kathleen S. Calkins and Francis F. Gorman; his foster parents, Gerry and Clarence Sweet; a brother, Richard and a sister, Joyce Stocom, all died before him.

Calling hours will be held on Monday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Mooers. A committal service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at the Union Cemetery in Mooers Forks.

A reception will follow the committal at his residence at 308 Blackman Corners Road in Mooers Forks.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Mooers Volunteer Fire Department.

Lester R. Hardy

PLATTSBURGH — Lester R. Hardy, 90, of Rugar Street and formerly of Cumberland Head, died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center.

He was born in Champlain on Oct. 20, 1911, the son of Myron and Jennie (Palmer) Hardy.

Mr. Hardy was a member of the United Methodist Church in Plattsburgh, Elks Lodge 621, the Order of the Eastern Star in Mooers, Masonic Clinton Lodge 155 since 1934, a member of Riverside Cemetery Board since 1947, the Plattsburgh Senior Citizens Council and an honorary member of the Clinton County Fair Board.

He married the former Ruth Milne in Manchester, N.H., in 1943; she died in 1994. Mr. Hardy then marred the former Lorraine Senecal McLaughlin in 1996 at the United Methodist Church in Plattsburgh.

In 1929 he became an apprentice plumber and steam fitter inside the Dannemora State Prison walls. He was later Clerk of the Works for the building of several of the Essex and Clinton County buildings as well as several buildings in the Syracuse area. He joined the U.S. Navy in the early stages of World War II and served in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters.

In 1946, he went in business with his father at M.A. Hardy and Son Plumbing and Heating on Miller Street, eventually taking over the business and retiring in 1961. He then became Clerk of the Works on many plumbing and heating construction sites in the Clinton County area until retiring in 1992.

Survivors include his wife Lorraine; one daughter, Mrs. John (Carolyn) Tyndall of Cumberland Head; one brother, Myron S. Hardy of Florida; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Ruth McRoberts of Plattsburgh; and one grandchild, Glenn Hewitt and his wife Cathy of Auburn, N.Y.

Calling hours will be held Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home. Masonic services will be held Monday evening at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, followed by burial in Riverside Cemetery.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital.

Robert Joseph Daniels

Chazy — Robert Joseph Daniels, 71, of Route 9, died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center.

He was born in Beekmantown on Jan. 17, 1931, the son of Joseph and Julia (Rivers) Daniels.

Robert was a veteran of Korea, serving in the U. S. Army. He worked as a small engine mechanic until he became disabled in 1984. Robert enjoyed fishing, hunting and the outdoors. He was a life long member of St. Joseph's Church in West Chazy.

Robert is survived by his wife of 52 years, the former Maude H. (Burl) Daniels of Chazy; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Adrian and Starr Daniels of West Chazy, Robert Daniels Jr. of West Chazy and William and Brenda Daniels of Swanton, Vt.; six daughters and their spouses, Marilyn and William LaBelle of Mooers, Julie Dapo and Ricky Babbie of Mooers, Linda and Joe Holland of Plattsburgh, Pauline and Dan Hill of Mooers, Gladys and Larry Soden of Rouses Point and Carol and Todd Wilson of West Chazy; three brothers and their spouses, Armond and Mary Ellen Daniels of West Chazy, Art and Anna Marie Daniels of West Chazy and Thomas and Nancy Daniels of Beekmantown; two sisters and two brothers-in-law, Julia and Austin Jubert of Sciota and Annette and Chris Ferguson of Beekmantown; one stepsister, Dawn Pratt of West Chazy; and one stepbrother, Herbert Stacy of West Chazy; 17 grandchildren; ten great - grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. from St. Joseph's Church, West Chazy. Interment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Donations in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association.

Mary Louise Wood, 76, of the Rand Hill Road, Morrisonville, formerly of Beekman Towers, died Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at the CVPH Medical Center.00

She was born in Plattsburgh on Jan. 28, 1926, the daughter of William and Mary Alice (Fredette) Howard.
